Head congestion, dizziness and unbalance, Some time i choke from coughing when phlems lets go and plug the airway, there fore passing out for short instant. Cat scan of the lung showed copd. Stevia puffer was prescribed. I sleep with a cpap and I dont cough while sleeping, I start to cough once i get up and start moving around. When the phlems comes up it is as tick as butter.
I take guaifenesin every single day and I drink LOTS of water. When getting over a cold it's very helpful to ease congestion. guaifenesin has no side effects and is even safe for children. It is marketed for respiratory mucus problems and is available without prescription in various strengths.
I got phenylephrine nasal drops, which cleared up my congestion, and took congestion/cold medicine (tylenol, guaifenesin, phenylephrine), and got a bit of sleep. Saturday - I woke up breathing out of my mouth with a slightly sore throat and had trouble sleeping the rest of the day - I got back to sleep after another drop of the new nasal spray but I know I'm not supposed to overuse it. The congestion is even worse - the neti pot this time did almost nothing.
Hi Molly, I don't know if this is still relevant for you but I have chronic sinus pressure/congestion and it I am certain that is the cause of my chiari related headaches. I had the decompression surgery two years ago. Most of my symptoms are better. My neck is bothersome quite often, but I don't know if it is related to chiari or the fact that I have two cervical discs that herniate a couple times a year.
forgot to mentio-the congestion is so bad that i frequently lose my voice, even with the meds --if i can celar the congestion, my vice returns or strengthesn, so it appears and feels like the vocal cords are blocked by the congesiton.
I wash them out every day with a Neti Pot, I use guaifenesin (sp?) for chest congestion, I use a sample corticosteroid spray the doctor gave me, Tylenol Sinus, and even a spray of Advair (I have borderline asthma) when I go to bed. I'm disabled and have no health insurance, so going to specialists and having a battery of tests just isn't possible. I just wondered if anyone else here has had a similar situation and maybe how it was handled. Thank you so much to anyone who responds.
I can sympathize with you all. I myself just recently started experiencing dizziness associated with allergies. I turned 40 this year, and I have suffered from seasonal allergies for about ten years now, but it has never been accompanied with dizziness. I reside in NY and we have been having lots of rain lately, and for the past two weeks I have been experiencing dizziness.
Makes sense. I broke down and took two rounds of antibiotics for a recent bout of sinus pain and congestion, and sicker since, unable to work, fatigued with head pressure, had swollen nodes in the back of my neck/head that were sore. Never had that in my life. I went to a natural doctor who has put me on a detoxifying shake with many nutrients that clear the system out. Also homeopathic drops to put in water to build my resistence up to allergens.
I have nasal congestion & also a low grade chronic sinus infection. My nose was overly dry from use of flonase, allegra-D, & nasal rinse. Be willing to experiment. Basically, you want to treat your nose with the same respect you cleanse & MOISTURIZE your face. Everyone's face is different; some have acne & some have dry wrinkles.
I have had severe cough and sinus congestion for 4-5 days; which is worse at night,I took oral decongestant psedoephedrine with guaifenesin and I could not sleep two nights in a row, it kept me awake. I do not know if I should go to a doctor and spend money( as I do not have medical insurance, and it's expensive for me.), or should I continue to use over the counter medications and wait until it disappears by itself or I am afraid it might get worse.
I have had bad sinus congestion the past couple days - some chills. It has now moved to my chest - I'm coughing up a little. I would like to take a sinus decongestant and a chest (expectorant) at the same time. Is this possible? I still need the sinus meds (tylenol severe cold) to breathe, but would like to take mucinex to clear my chest.
Does anyone use decongestants (Guiefenesin found in cough syrup & cold meds) to help CM to be a good consistency? I heard it helps the sperm get through more easily. A friend of mine was TTC for five years and her husband had low motility. She started taking cough syrup and within 6-12 months, got pregnant and miscarried a few weeks in (in Nov.) & now is 5 weeks pregnant again and everything is looking good. I have been TTC for two years and am wondering if I should try it. Is it safe?
For a cough, try something like guaifenesin, like Robitussin Severe Congestion Liquagels or Mucinex. Avoid dextramethorphan, like Robitussin DM. It is okay to treat the symptoms of your cough, but if you are getting symptoms that point toward bacterial infection requiring antibiotics, make sure you see your doctor. Examples of symptoms to watch for are fever, coughing up colored phlegm, pain in your chest when you cough, shortness of breath, or any symptoms lasting more than 10 days or so.
I have random urine drug screens and random blood screens for alcohol. Am wanting to take Tylenol sinus congestion medicine. The ingredients are acetaminophen, guaifenesin, and phenylephrine. Will any of those ingredients caus a positive drug or alcohol test?
Do saline nasal rinsing with a neti pot. Drink warm water or not tea throughout the day. Do you know about guaifenesin? It moisturizes your entire respiratory tract from the inside out and thins mucus. You want your mucus moist & thin so it can run down the throat or out the nose and not be thick. you want THIN MUCUS AT ALL TIMES. I take guaifenesin every single day and I drink LOTS of water. When getting over a cold it's very helpful to ease congestion.
On 11/2/2010 I got a horrible sinus headache. I get these every time the weather changes. It went was lessened the next day but by then I had a runny nose. This lasted until 11/5 when it felt like I was getting a chest cold. That night when I went to bed it felt like an extra effort to breathe. I figured it was just some chest congestion and let it go until the next day. The problem with that is that my doctors office wasn't open so I had to go to the ER.
and give me some relief during the day. It is lying down that really brings on the congestion for me, and it shifts from side-to-side, depending on which side I am lying.
i have always had sinus problems, especially this time of year. i was smack dab in the middle of tx and i took mucinex - it helped alot, and was ok'd by my doc. i am now 10 mo post tx (and taking my mucinex once again) still und!
right now i have a lot of phlem, i have body ( on the back also) and head aches, nasal congestion and I snezze a lot, ocassionaly my chest hurts on the sides or in the middle, but before the cold it was there and getting better ) before the cold I felt a way better, only head aches, phlem, and occasionally a little bit of chest pain, I`ve never coughed nor had fever since I initially had pneumonia. the only medicine that Im taking is mucinex (guaifenesin) to thin out the phlem.
The 1st week my doctor diagnosed it as parainfluenza (croup) and said to let it run its course. It was accompanied by congestion and I also lost my voice. The cough is significanly worse at night- so I can't get much sleep. I have attacks where I can't stop coughing for several minutes. I've since been given one cough med after another. Now I'm on hydrocodone with guaifenesin, but it's only marginally working to control the cough.
but I may need a prescription for something like a diuretic if the headaches don't go away. Today I took some guaifenesin for sinus congestion and noticed it really did the job as far as diuretic effects go. I also notice my headache disappeared and hasn't come back. Does anyone know what the name of this "side effect" is? I'm kind of worried now and won't get a chance to talk to the doctor for a couple of months.
But if you want you can take Sudafed but it has to be the plain kinda and here where i live its only available at the pharmacy all you have to do is ask for it don't get the Sudafed PE kinda that will be bad you want the one with pseudoephedrine =) and as far as the sore throat i would take plain Robitussin (guaifenesin) but it can only be that ingredient...
I do NOT have any noteworthy nasal symptoms, no runny nose or congestion, no chest congestion and no cough. This all leads me to believe its not sinus related. I feel like i am losing my mind. Its affecting my quality of life. Any advice would be helpful. And some reassurance that the mucous wont block my esophogus? Any ideas what this annoyance could be???
Yellow means Sinus, Green means Bronchitus. Also, a sinus infection can easily turn into Bronchitus. I recommend going to the doctor and getting some medicine. Also, drink lots of water and get plenty of rest. Sinus infections are usually accompanied by headaches and some fatigue of various levels depending on how bad it is. And one other thing I would recommend (especially if you've got allergies or postnasal drip) is a sinus rinse.
Some people experience allergy/sinus symptoms in different ways, my congestion happens in the throat, others in the nasal passage and others have watery eyes, needless to say, he prescibed FluNase or FluNose, with Zytec. This really worked for me althugh I used it just during the allergy season, when I experienced the congestion.
Have anybody used "Mucinex D" as mucus thinner? It is over the counter medication. They advertise it like this: "Mucinex D thins and loosens the mucus that causes congestion and sinus pressure due to colds or allergies. For a full 12 hours." Let me know, I want to try.
I know it s a n infection because this is the same way each sinus infection I have had since my second sinus surgery done in October , has started. It has gone to my ear, and even when I had an excruciating infection in my ear a month ago, they couldn't detect any fluid. I think that we are living in an archaic period of otolarygology.
UGGG!! when is soon. I have taken Advil Cold and Sinus and that sometimes makes me feel a bit better for a while. If you come up with any ideas on how to feel better, let me know. If there is anybody out there who has these same symptoms and has "lived" through it.. lol. Tell me how long it took..YIKES!
After the first week, my ears were like 1/4 less congested. By the 2nd week, congestion was lifted off by 1/2. By the 3rd week, congestion was off by 3/4. I am now into my 6th week of continuing this medicine. It's not cheap but hey, I've got a life again!
