1658855_tn?1335215419 I read in so many articles that guaifenesin helps in fertile cervical mucus if taken for 5 days before ovulation for 200 mg thrice. I have 600 mg guaifenesin tablet at home ,can i take them.Do they really help.
Avatar_n_tn My daughter 11 years old 100 lbs (big for her age), took (the correct dose) 5mL cough and cold medicine that had the following in that dose. Guaifenesin, USP 100 mg, Dextromethorpan HBr, USP 10 mL. Phenylephedrine HCI, USB 5mg. But then she also took (the correct dose) 10 mg of a prescription medicine Guaifenesin-Codeine syrup (generic for Robitussin AC syrup). It doesn't state on the label the quantity of Guaifenesin mg in the 5mL dose. How much is too much Guaifenesin?
Avatar_n_tn The recommended dose for improving cervical mucus, based on a 1982 article in Fertility and Sterility, is two teaspoons (200 mg) taken orally three times per day. If mucus still appears thick and doesn't have good spinnbarkeit (ability to stretch), one can take as much as four teaspoons (400 mg) four times per day (the maximum dose on this over the counter medication).
Avatar_n_tn This is my second month on Clomid (50 mg) days 4-8 this month; 5-9 last. I have read a lot about Guaifenesin and baby asprin... just wondering if anyone has had any luck with it? I am currently in the 2nd week of my 2ww... Baby dust to all.
1047147_tn?1328909754 Higher doses tend to be more associated with less cervical fluid and a thinner uterine lining, than the 50 mg dose. Will guaifenesin help if there is little or no mucus present? Guaifenesin doesn't actually create mucus, it only thins what is already there. One would need to look into why there is no mucus (infection, not really ovulating), or bypass the mucus issue by doing intrauterine insemination. Does one need to take guaifenesin when doing intrauterine insemination (IUI)?
Avatar_n_tn The alternative is guaifenesin, which you can buy over-the-counter. Mucinex contains guaifenesin, but I would get the plain guaifenesin. It works very well.

Avatar_f_tn Hi i can confirm that the cough syrup is robitussin chesty cough medicine that contains (guaifenesin) only. Its in a red and black box.I have never noticed my cervical mucus ever before and this was my first month on clomid.I took robitussin every morning and evening (5ml dose). You only take it after AF has ended and stop when you ovulate.I drank a glass of grapefruit juice every morning as its supposed to help CM too.
Avatar_m_tn You don't want to get Mucinex which has other ingredients, but plain guaifenesin. Also, take 500 mg of vitamin B5. That is also a mucolytic. No side effects. Are you seeing a family doctor or a lung MD?
Avatar_n_tn Excess mucus causes coughing. You can get a mucolytic (mucus thinner) called guaifenesin over-the-counter. Mucinex contains gauifenesin but I would get the plain guaifenesin. Vitamin B5 also thins mucus. He would have to take 500 mg a day. No side effects. Then there are anti-inflammatories, among them Vitamin C. Of course, stopping smoking would help the most, but you have had no success in that area. Maybe once he gets more comfortable at reducing the coughing he will think about quitting.
Avatar_m_tn Mucinex D active ingredients are 600 mg guaifenesin and 60 mg pseudoephedrine. Please help do i need to take to emergency vet or will he be ok? he has been acting ok and he has eaten his food and drink water since.
Avatar_m_tn A common expectorant suggested for asthmatics is guaifenesin 400 mg. For this to be effective the patient must drink lots of fluids and remain well hydrated. Any diuretic interfere with this recommendation.
Avatar_n_tn the robitussin helps to loosen up the mucus, actually the ingrdient guaifenesin. I found this at a website, hope it helps Robitussin and it's Effect on Cervical Mucus Robitussin works on the cervical mucus and increases your chances of getting pregnant Robitussin is a popular brand of cough syrup and it might be surprising to consider its relation with fertility. But the fact is that this expectorant is used to loosen and thin mucus of a different kind too, called cervical mucus, in women.
Avatar_f_tn I used to take it twice a day and now I take it once a day - 2 400 mg capsules once a day. guaifenesin has no side effects and is even safe for children. It is marketed for respiratory mucus problems and is available without prescription in various strengths. something my My 2nd ENT said to me - he sat me down and said : "I'm going to give you the keys to the kingdom: Control the mucus. Mucus is caustic and it creates inflammation if it lingers in your system".

379053_tn?1199547544 A majority of patients in the amitriptyline group achieved a complete response on the initial dose of 10 mg. None of the codeine/guaifenesin group achieved a complete response. The data were analyzed using a logistic regression model, and amitriptyline was found to be a highly significant predictor of a greater than 50% response when compared with codeine/guaifenesin (P = .0007). The same data were analyzed using a proportional odds model and similar results were noted.
