i got the meds to clear up the sinus infection which is fine and just an antibiotic but she prescribed me cough syrup with codeine to help ease the cough which is causing my ribs to just throb non stop. i have read on here addictions to codeine...i am nervous to take it but actually really need it. anyone know about this cough syrup with codeine??? am i putting myself in danger??? any advice would be helpful...i have not taken it yet.

I am not sure if this works or if this is a coincidence but I have to say the two times I used it I got pregnant. Try taking cough syrup. Just get the pain ole Robitussin with guaifenesin. Don't get it with any other active ingredients. The guaifenesin is the ingredient to loosen mucus. We generally use it for chest congerstion but it also loosens our lower region's mucus wich in turn help aid the sperm to its final goal...your egg.

no...codeine is a weak narcotic..I am not sure if there may be very small amounts of alcohol in the syrup but stick to the dose and stop it when u do not need it...something non-narcotic may have worked for you and may have been a better choice but if this is effective for the cough, use it to stay strong..if u get to liking it too much run...this forum is mainly narcotic addicts so we see the word CODEINE and we cringe...

I just got back from the dr and he gave me cough syrup with codeine (very mild) so that i can sleep at night along with z-pac. When I have had this in the past, I only used the cough medicine for about two nights. I haven't gotten the script filled yet. Do you think it will be ok to use this if I only take as directed? Yes everybody ...... that narcotic (codeine) cough syrup is purchased OTC in several countries, India among them. Those syrups need to be treated just as any narcotic for withdraw.........they do compound health problems with a cocktail of other cough meds involved in the formulary. ......... they can get the narcs easily, but the amino's are harder and more expensive - I would think many with 5 yr histories should be advised ot the depression and some therapy for it......

For OTC cough syrup, I use Delsym (Dextromethorphan polistirex) or Mucinex (Guaifenesin). I've never had a problem with either, and I'd consider myself fairly sensitive to cold medications. When I need the big guns, I get my PCP to prescribe Tussionex (chlorpheniramine and hydrocodone) aka. "Liquid Gold". I love this stuff. It's expensive, hence the name. But you WILL stop coughing, and you WILL sleep!

They make the Promethazine syrup with DXM (no codeine). There are also pills that you can take called Benzonate that are pretty effective. I would try non narcotic options first. I think any opiates at this point will set you back, at least mentally. If you are unable to find relief and absolutely have to do the Codeine syrup, I would be sure to give it to a trusted person to hand out your doses, that way you aren't tempted. I went to the doctor and discovered that I have a sinus infection and bronchitis. Naturally, he prescribed cough syrup that contained codeine. I was a little hesitant at first but I easily justified taking some because I've been pretty miserable the last couple days. Now codeine has never really gotten me high(unless taken in massive doses)but I still feel a little guilty. Codeine's antitussive properties are great, but it's a narcotic all the same.
