Avatar m tn For a cough, try something like guaifenesin, like Robitussin Severe Congestion Liquagels or Mucinex. Avoid dextramethorphan, like Robitussin DM. It is okay to treat the symptoms of your cough, but if you are getting symptoms that point toward bacterial infection requiring antibiotics, make sure you see your doctor. Examples of symptoms to watch for are fever, coughing up colored phlegm, pain in your chest when you cough, shortness of breath, or any symptoms lasting more than 10 days or so.
Avatar f tn I have used it (Guaifenesin) and it seems to work pretty well. Also, evening primrose oil and grapefruit juice are supposed to be really good!
Avatar n tn I have random urine drug screens and random blood screens for alcohol. Am wanting to take Tylenol sinus congestion medicine. The ingredients are acetaminophen, guaifenesin, and phenylephrine. Will any of those ingredients caus a positive drug or alcohol test?
221122 tn?1323011265 I still get a drowning feeling while the flush is running through my sinus. One can also add salt (not the iodized stuff) and a pinch of soda (the Arm and hammer anti acid stuff) to make the flush. The idea is to add enough salt to have a saline neutral solution.
Avatar m tn I will tell you that u definetly have a cold or flu and i think its been caused by germs and bacteria. And considering you said you were in a hotel gets me to think if the air conditioning was filtered with dirt that you congested and got sick. if you want to prevent having colds always make sure you are in an clean environment. I think you need to drink lots of water and take some antibiotics and wash your hands after everything Hope this helped!
Avatar m tn I called and asked and she just said to also take phenlyeprine (sudaphed PE) and guaifenesin (Mucinex). These help quite a bit, but they make me jittery and queasy, I have to pee really often, and I'm still sleepy from the other stuff, and I still have some congestion and sore throat. So what do I do now? Did I just get really horrible genetics and there's nothing I can do?
979826 tn?1389036358 Hi Molly, I don't know if this is still relevant for you but I have chronic sinus pressure/congestion and it I am certain that is the cause of my chiari related headaches. I had the decompression surgery two years ago. Most of my symptoms are better. My neck is bothersome quite often, but I don't know if it is related to chiari or the fact that I have two cervical discs that herniate a couple times a year.
Avatar f tn If the guaifenesin breaks up sinus mucus, it stands to reason that it will break up the mucus in your stomach. I got a wicked case of gastritis from mucinex. I deduced this was the reason why.
4916735 tn?1360986597 I am a hypothyroid patient and I have a cold with sore throat, coughing and congestion. What medicines over the counter can I take?
Avatar f tn In that case you need a mucus thinner/expectorant. Buy an over-the-counter preparation that has guaifenesin, preferably only guaifenesin. Take a tablet and drink a full glass of water. It helps greatly. In fact the worst episodes I have with asthma involve serious congestion. You can also start using natural anti-inflammatories. These help greatly and thee are no side effects. As to diet, be very careful about sweets and too much starch. These cause a proliferation of Candida albicans.
Avatar f tn Approximately 6 weeks ago I had the usual Winter sinus congestion that everyone gets, my ears were blocked and so was my nose. I went in the shower and felt faint, called for my Mum and after a few seconds I did actually faint and lose consciousness. For the next few weeks I was feeling really tired all the time, nauseated and getting bouts of dizziness so I basically spent weeks in bed.
Avatar n tn I've had a small cough for about a month. It started with a cold, but the cold symptoms have long disappeared. I only cough a few times (basically till I can't anymore) and sometimes I feel some congestion, but I don't cough enough to move it.
Avatar f tn What's safest to take otc medication for sneezing, sinus drainage and sinus congestion, I was told Sudafed but not exactly which one considering there's like 40 different ones.
Avatar f tn Have any of you ladies experienced sinus problems early in pregnancy? I am only 7 dpo but have been having sinus congestion. I know it's not a cold just a stuffy, runny, & sneezy nose. I know with my first pregnancy I had congestion but I don't remember when it started as we were not trying with #1 so I wasn't paying attention since I didn't even know I was pregnant at first.
Avatar n tn These types of drugs help clear up sinus and head congestion. Phenylephrine is available over the counter at drug stores. Some people feel that another decongestant, pseudoephedrine, works better than phenylephrine. Pseudoephedrine is available behind the counter at drug stores. If you do not notice an improvement in your sinus congestion after 7 days, or if you have a fever, please notify your doctor since these are usually signs of an infection.
Avatar f tn I also have been using Nasonex and Advil cold and sinus and still have the congestion as well as when the antibiotics finished the next day I got really dizzy and tired/achy. I am now on anti dizzy pills but still have congestion and tried Reaction for congestion and hasn't helped. I am told I need to see a ear/nose doctor but have no idea when the appointment will be they say they are booking in September. Any advice would help.
Avatar f tn I wash them out every day with a Neti Pot, I use guaifenesin (sp?) for chest congestion, I use a sample corticosteroid spray the doctor gave me, Tylenol Sinus, and even a spray of Advair (I have borderline asthma) when I go to bed. I'm disabled and have no health insurance, so going to specialists and having a battery of tests just isn't possible. I just wondered if anyone else here has had a similar situation and maybe how it was handled. Thank you so much to anyone who responds.
Avatar n tn If the secretions where too thick to break up before you took the antibiotic, then the medicine is working, it is breaking that congestion up, which will rattle more in your chest and you will cough more to get the serections out. Try taking OTC guaifenesin this will help with the thinning of secretions and make it easier to cough up the mucus that is in your lungs. Also drink plenty of water. If you dont feel better soon take to your md, also make sure your not running any fever.
Avatar m tn What I am asking, could a small rash like this be attributed to congestion and/or sinus infection. I know it is nearly impossible to make an actual diagnosis not seeing the rash/history, but specifically, can sinus infections/nasal congestion produce some sort of red response on the skin? Thanks.
Avatar n tn -- I believe that the diagnoses is correct , but I am still having sinus pain and congestion , I have used and irrigation system that makes me feel better but I am stiil congested and the mucous at times becomes very hard at times ... sometimes not able to blow my nose because it is so painful and everything is jammed up there. Whart is your take on ths ??? Still Sinus infection with T.N. -- are they related !!
1190279 tn?1324936257 I'm on 50mg of clomid days 3 to 7 and today is cd 15. I have real bad pain down there and i think i'll be ovulating soon....is it too late to take guaifenesin? I have it in a syrup...how much should i be taking? I'm quit troubled because i do try and check my cervical mucus but it's not stretchy like it should be :-( It's watery and cloudy.
Avatar f tn For about 6 years I have dealt with constant sinus congestion, sinus pressure, and a gross smell that comes and goes. I went to the family doctor originally, who put me on antibiotics, which would help while I was on them. My main goal was to get this yucky smell to go away. Its like I have a moldy sock stuffed in my sinus cavity. This smell isn't constant it comes and goes. My doctor refered me to an ENT who took a CT of my sinuses.
Avatar m tn I work with pulmonary doctor who sees me for asthma and I use Advair 500/50 along with Allegra D and Singulair and I do regular sinus rinses. I was also sent to see a sinus specialist at University of Iowa who removed a large polyp from left Maxillary. I was hoping after the surgery the symptoms would clear. The surgery was completed in 8/2011 and I've had two flare up since that time. I've been tested for allergies 4 times and the only allergen is cut grass.
