Avatar n tn At first you have to take a lot of it, 1000 mg. Once the condition is modified you can cut back to 500 mg. There are no side effects. The alternative is guaifenesin, which you can buy over-the-counter. Mucinex contains guaifenesin, but I would get the plain guaifenesin. It works very well.
Avatar n tn ve taken it as a cough medicine in the past and at prescription dosages it can have side effects of concern in higher dosages.
Avatar n tn Vitamin B5 also thins mucus. He would have to take 500 mg a day. No side effects. Then there are anti-inflammatories, among them Vitamin C. Of course, stopping smoking would help the most, but you have had no success in that area. Maybe once he gets more comfortable at reducing the coughing he will think about quitting.
Avatar n tn I can find no drug with the name "restyl." Do you perhaps mean "RESTORIL," which is a sedative-hypnotic in the benzodiazepine, (antianxiety) class of meds? There is also the possibility you meant "RESYL." a trade name for guaifenesin, which is an expectorant. If you've been taking RESYL for a cough for the past 6 MONTHS, you need to see your doctor inmediately. The med probably won't hurt you, but a cough lasting 6 months needs looking into.
1821676 tn?1317251820 I agree with kendy, get checked out first. Clomid is not the best choice anyway, lots of side effects including documented birth defects.
Avatar f tn These help greatly and thee are no side effects. As to diet, be very careful about sweets and too much starch. These cause a proliferation of Candida albicans. Candida worsens asthma and allergies. I almost forgot. If you can find chewable bromelain, use that. Very, very helpful.
Avatar m tn But Im afraid to take it because one of the side effects I read was anxiety. I dont want to have more anxiety. Im also afraid to take it because Im afraid I might be allergic to it. Since last november I went to the emergency because I was allergic to nyquil so since then Im afraid to take any medication. So what do you think, should I take it?
Avatar n tn I have fibromyalgia so and am in grad school and working so fatigue is my middle name . I wear a mouth guard and washed real good thinking maybe there was some bacteria on it or something .
Avatar n tn One side effect of Mucolytics is bronchospasm and is therefore contraindicated for asthma patients. Guaifenesin, aka Robitussin, is an expectorant, and should be safe for asthma patients as long as is it is taken as directed. I am a nursing student and this is what I have learned on the subject so far. I stumbled on this question while I was researching the subject.
Avatar m tn A note about your phlegm problems. From using the emphysema medications one can develop thrush (a fungal infection). This no doubt extends to the lungs. Antibiotics and prednisone are marvelous food for fungi. They love it. So what do you do to help yourself.... Mucomyst is back on the market. That will dissolve the phlegm and has a neutral ph, unlike stuff like Spiriva which is acid. (Fungi thrive in an acid environment.) Also you might want to take a potassium iodide supplement.
1106767 tn?1315050974 I have done some research and it appears that clomid can dry up cervical mucus in some people. But if you take robitussin that contains the ingredient (guaifenesin) only and take 1 teaspoon morning and night its supposed to help. But you only take it after your period ends and stop when you ovulate.Drinking a daily glass of grapefruit juice also helps as does eating sweet potato or yams.I am using conceive plus also which is a lubricant similar to preseed.
Avatar f tn Also, you may want to check out the Yahoo support group for guai users who have fibro. Just go to Yahoo - groups and type in guaifenesin. There are some knowledgeable people in that group who can help. Best wishes & God bless.
Avatar f tn does anyone know any other fertility treatments i can try apart from Clomid, that doesnt have "cysts" as a side effect? ive just had a cyst removed and hoping to speak now with my doctor about fertility treatment, i would like to try clomid but...cysts!! what else is out there to help me make a little baby??
1047147 tn?1328906154 The only active ingredient is guaifenesin, and it contains 100 mg per teaspoon. It is very important to avoid the versions that contain decongestants as those may dry up cervical mucus. Also, there is some conflicting information about whether dextromethorphan, the DM in some cough medicine names, may be linked to birth defects such as neural tube defects and cleft palate. Do I need to use the brand Robitussin? No. Robitussin is the most common brand name, at least in the U.S.
Avatar f tn s testimonies and graphic details about their symptoms and the effects from guaifenesin, I decided to give it a go. I personally felt that if this was bull#$% then why were so many people finding success on it. At first I was like you and the other responder, I thought this guy was full of bull, but how could this dr be so good at explaining the most intimate of symptoms? (Either he really knew what he was talking about or he was extremely adept to exploiting peoples weaknesses.
Avatar n tn The ingredients are acetaminophen, guaifenesin, and phenylephrine. Will any of those ingredients caus a positive drug or alcohol test?
Avatar f tn Hi i can confirm that the cough syrup is robitussin chesty cough medicine that contains (guaifenesin) only. Its in a red and black box.I have never noticed my cervical mucus ever before and this was my first month on clomid.I took robitussin every morning and evening (5ml dose). You only take it after AF has ended and stop when you ovulate.I drank a glass of grapefruit juice every morning as its supposed to help CM too.
Avatar f tn Also, have you taken this before and noticed anything different and if you are taking it have you had any side effects?
Avatar n tn I am currently working on substituting Duoneb, insofar as is possible, with natural anti-inflammatories, to eliminate side effects, particularly candidiasis.
Avatar n tn I know it should be sticky, EGCM and stretchy. Mine is hardly stretchy at all - a few millimeters and it breaks imidiately. It also only lasting for a few hours every cycle.
1777912 tn?1314474892 m using OPKs and they are only light colored bars and not a definite positive. I am having egg white tacky CM and light cramps on or about my CD 17-20. Should I consider this my fertile time even though the tests don't acknowledge my LH? I have had blood work - great levels all around. What should I do????
Avatar f tn 5% or 7 proof so your doctor likely feels that its benefits will outweigh it side effects or risks. Your doctor prescibed it to allow you to sleep and loosen the mucus in your lungs. If you drank the whole bottle 8 oz. / 250 ml it would be like having half a beer. But the dosage you were likely prescibed is two teaspoons which is 10 ml so you have 25 doses which should last you a week. so it is like drinking less than one ounce of beer a day for a week.
Avatar f tn I never even thought to research it before it happened so you may want to talk to your doctor about it. Also, research the side effects. Some women experience horrible mood swings, but I was lucky and didn't notice anything. Here's some research I saved from when I tried it... It may take time to establish an appropriate and effective dosage for each person. Once that is established, you should expect to ovulate 5-8 days after the last pill is taken.
377493 tn?1356502149 You are supposed to use this before you ovulate and not after because Guaifenesin is thought to cross the placental barrier which means your fetus would be exposed to it. I have no clue what affect it has on the fetus. My body has always produced alot of EWCM, but I noticed when I used Guaifenesin, it increased my cervical mucus even more. I hope this helps friend.
Avatar f tn I just started taking clomid and i read to start the guaifenesin on day 10 till ovulation. On a website for fertility i read that you need to take 200mg three times a day!
Avatar n tn yes, well sort of. It's Guaifenesin an ingredient found in cough meds. You can usually find a store brand of robitussin that has only Guaifenesin in it. The ingredient is made to break up mucus, but if taken while you ovulate it can make your CM more compatible with sperm.
Avatar n tn For years I suffered with cough and mucus, and asthma as well in the past. In 2005 I was sick for two months, consumed two rounds of antibiotics, nothing worked, and I was misreable, unable to sleep. X-rays did not show any problems. One day a relative of mine took me to a homeopath. One simple dose, believe it or not, same night I slept like a baby. Try homeopathy, you got nothing to loose. If it works, you will see an improvement in a couple of days.
