Avatar f tn FDA pregnancy category C. It is not known whether dextromethorphan and guaifenesin will harm an unborn baby. Do not use this medicine without a doctor's advice if you are pregnant.
Avatar f tn Take tylonal cold/flu and vitamin c, and drink Orange juice and get as much sleep as you can. That's what my doctor said bc im 38 weeks and had a cold for a week. I don't know if robitussun is to good for you while your pregnant.
Avatar n tn For OTC cough syrup, I use Delsym (Dextromethorphan polistirex) or Mucinex (Guaifenesin). I've never had a problem with either, and I'd consider myself fairly sensitive to cold medications. When I need the big guns, I get my PCP to prescribe Tussionex (chlorpheniramine and hydrocodone) aka. "Liquid Gold". I love this stuff. It's expensive, hence the name. But you WILL stop coughing, and you WILL sleep!
1047147 tn?1328906154 The only active ingredient is guaifenesin, and it contains 100 mg per teaspoon. It is very important to avoid the versions that contain decongestants as those may dry up cervical mucus. Also, there is some conflicting information about whether dextromethorphan, the DM in some cough medicine names, may be linked to birth defects such as neural tube defects and cleft palate. Do I need to use the brand Robitussin? No. Robitussin is the most common brand name, at least in the U.S.
377493 tn?1356502149 ) These all have additional active ingredients in them like Dextromethorphan HBr which is a cough suppressant and you do not need that. You just solely need Guaifenesin as the active ingredient. Also if you do not do well with elixirs you may want to take Mucinex instead. It is Guaifenesin as well in an oral tablet form. You are supposed to use this before you ovulate and not after because Guaifenesin is thought to cross the placental barrier which means your fetus would be exposed to it.
Avatar f tn In the mean time there are some OTC cough meds that are safe. Dextromethorphan, Guaifenesin, halls lozenges, Robitussin (plain), sucrets, Sudafed and Sudafed PE, Tylenol plus, Vicks formula 44, Zinc lozenges. A cup of honey and lemon can be soothing for a cough also .
927769 tn?1275932602 ve started on the generic of mucinex and it only has 400 MG of ONLY GUAIFENESIN. I would say ask your doctor and if they say you shouldn't take it because of birth defects then don't. Also, remember you're only supposed to take it 5 days before O and some doc's say you can take it the day after O. This is because sperm may live up to 5 days in the fertile rich CM. Just a note...
Avatar f tn I've been waking up with a runny nose and a sore throat... which means is about to get bad. Can I take anything to prevent it getting bad?

Avatar f tn The other source is the combination of drugs commonly used in over-the-counter cough suppression medicines - Dextromethorphan and Guaifenesin. Not doubt, itching is also the side-effect of other medicines.
Avatar f tn So I currently have a sore throat, and 5 days my doctor gave me dextromethorphan syrup to treat it. I went back today again because my sore throat didn't go away, and a different doctor (in the same clinic) got me this thymol gargle that contained alcohol. The dextromethorphan specifically stated to avoid alcoholic drinks, so can I use both dextromethorphan and the alcoholic throat gargle together?
1102149 tn?1259692962 I too took Mucinex in November and just got my BFP yesterday and today. With my 2 year old, same thing. My doctor told me that with both of her pregnancies, she was sick and taking Robitussin and that's when she got pregnant. Anyway, I intentionally took it with my 2 year old and got pregnant the first month I tried. But this time, I was genuinely sick and had horrible post-nasal drip with crazy thick mucus, so that's why I took it. And dontcha know...it did it again.
2078179 tn?1331940461 It starts with a sore throat and and flu like symptoms with cough. It also usually includes sinus headaches and ear pain (due to the eustachian tube getting clogged between the sinuses and the ear). Now the bad news, even after the flu like symptoms are gone, the cough and mucus want to stick around for weeks (sometimes a couple of months).
1106767 tn?1315050974 I have done some research and it appears that clomid can dry up cervical mucus in some people. But if you take robitussin that contains the ingredient (guaifenesin) only and take 1 teaspoon morning and night its supposed to help. But you only take it after your period ends and stop when you ovulate.Drinking a daily glass of grapefruit juice also helps as does eating sweet potato or yams.I am using conceive plus also which is a lubricant similar to preseed.
Avatar m tn First product you want is Mucinex D (guaifenesin and pseudoephedrine). This product will dry out your sinuses and help clean your Eustachian tube that runs from your nasal cavity up to your ears (this is where your ear pain, balance issues, and hearing problem come from). This product will also thin your mucus to help you get it out instead of being so thick that coughing is a chore with little effect of getting it out.
483733 tn?1326798446 I've had a really bad cold this past week and have been taking a cough syrup with Dextromethorphan in it. I also have an ileal pouch (no large bowel) and have had 'problems' at night the last couple of nights that I've taken the cough syrup. Amazingly though, my fibro pain has been extremely low.
Avatar f tn Hi i can confirm that the cough syrup is robitussin chesty cough medicine that contains (guaifenesin) only. Its in a red and black box.I have never noticed my cervical mucus ever before and this was my first month on clomid.I took robitussin every morning and evening (5ml dose). You only take it after AF has ended and stop when you ovulate.I drank a glass of grapefruit juice every morning as its supposed to help CM too.
Avatar n tn I know it should be sticky, EGCM and stretchy. Mine is hardly stretchy at all - a few millimeters and it breaks imidiately. It also only lasting for a few hours every cycle.
Avatar f tn I also have a long history of allergies in my life (rhinitis, latex, dog and cat hair, contact and atopic dermatitis) and my grandmother was allergic to basically 90% of all drugs. A couple of weeks weeks ago, I was feeling unwell, so I took 600mg of ibuprofen and something for the fever (I don't really remember what it was) twice a day for a week and then went to the doctor because I was not getting better.
1968463 tn?1374757813 Sorry guys, I guess I got one of the remedies mixed up in my head. The "Robitussin" treatment helps with the widespread pain...I'm guessing it may be why I find so much relief when I combine this with a hot tub! Sorry ot has taken me so ling to post...It's been a rough week or so.
Avatar n tn Well as happens I am taking the medication for different reason and different form (pill format and control of dystonic spasms) and I've taken it as a cough medicine in the past and at prescription dosages it can have side effects of concern in higher dosages.
Avatar n tn I've had asthma since I was little, and as far as I've gathered, expectorant is for non-asthmatic cough sufferers while mucolytics are for asthmatics. Is this true? What's confusing me though is why "guaifenesin", a component in one asthma pill I used to take, is used as an "expectorant", and the only OTC drug available for the purpose of easing the removal of phlegm here in the U.S.
