Avatar n tn hI, my son now 15 underwent treatment and a bone marrow transplant for Neouroblastoma at the age of four. He's been on growth hormone treatment for 3 years now but with no result. He's only 144cm tall and his endocrinologist says there's no hope because his bones have finished growing and the only suggestion is the bone stretching surgery. Can anyone suggest anything else?
Avatar f tn In terms of growth hormone, prematurity and intraventricular hemorrhage are not generally associated with growth hormone deficiency unless there are problems with other hormones also. It is most likely that your granddaughter's small size is due to her former general illness and prematurity. Babies like her need a tremendous amount of nutrition to achieve "catch up" growth, which can sometimes be hard to obtain if she doesn't eat extremely well.

233616 tn?1312787196 ***@**** Liver cirrhosis is characterized by a severe impairment of the growth hormone/insulin-like growth factor-1 (GH-IGF-1) axis, that is, acquired GH resistance. The condition of the GH-IGF-1 axis in the phase of chronic liver disease (CLD) preceding cirrhosis, however, remains uncertain. The origin of GH resistance during CLD is multifactorial, and to date, the liver functional mass is considered to play a major role.
Avatar m tn Hello, Serotonin is usually used for treating growth disorders in children and adults who have a deficiency of growth hormone. Other indications for its usage are Noonan syndrome, Turner’s syndrome, short stature, hypopituitarism, chronic kidney failure etc.Serotonin should be taken only after consulting a doctor. Before starting this drug you need to give a complete medical history to your doctor. If you are on steroids change in drug dosages may be needed.
Avatar f tn hello, i was diagnosed with silent thyroiditis (not related to pregnancy/post-partum) months ago because i was hyperT for a few months and now i'm hypoT. i was put on 88mcg of synthroid 6 weeks ago because my free t3 and free t4 were low and my tsh was 55.86. my current labs are free t4 normal and tsh of 9.29. should my synthroid dosage be raised? and if normal thyroid function could spontaneously recover, how would my body know to do so if i'm on synthetic hormone?
Avatar m tn We went to have multiple tests done and they confirmed that im producing next to no growth hormone, or something of that nature. Over the last couple years, I noticed that my friends have been getting taller, while im not. They said that if I dont get hormone injections, my platelets? will close and i wont grow at all. I am considering it and am wondering if there are any severe side effects the medication may have.
Avatar n tn Even though her pathology showed a negative hormone receptor her oncologist is saying that they are now finding arimidex to slow the growth of tumors in some patients that had a long time from initial breast cancer treatment to a recurrence. Has anyone else heard of this? I'm wondering if the HMO is trying to lower their cost of her care using this instead of the Chemotherapy Adriamyacin. It would, however, be a great thing if it actually works. Thanks for any advice!
Avatar n tn She is definitely short and body weight is too high for her height, glad to see you saw an endo. She is gh deficient and this is a very good reason for central obesity(more weight around the tummy) and short stature!!! Do not feel overwhelmed, this is good news, she has a chance for treatment, the mri is done on all of my patients before treatment is started, the best websites to go over gh include magicfoundation.
Avatar m tn Anyone have thoughts on promoting natural secretion of human growth hormone (hGH)?
Avatar m tn If your daughter is 12, actually the treatments are not really cosmetic. growth hormone while the name says growth, actually has more functions and some are very subtle like sleep and some are more real like muscle growth and bone growth. The social stigma of being different at this age can also have lasting effects - so if she starts to lose a lot of height and gets behind her peers, she may lose friends. It sounds shallow - but it really hurts and it does happen. It is just that age group.
Avatar m tn The pituitary gland, located at the base of the brain, helps regulate testosterone production and hormone secretion. Growth hormone and follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) are among the hormones that stimulate testis and ovary function and are two of the many hormones secreted by the pituitary. Anabolic and androgenic steroids are available as prescription medications to be used in cases in which the body does not make enough hormone and supplementation may be required.

I asked the doc if I need replacement GH and he says he doesn't know. When I called the ins. company about coverage, they asked for a diagnosis and treatment code, and I don't know these.
