Common Questions and Answers about Growth hormone kids

hormone

Avatar n tn She is definitely short and body weight is too high for her height, glad to see you saw an endo. She is gh deficient and this is a very good reason for central obesity(more weight around the tummy) and short stature!!! Do not feel overwhelmed, this is good news, she has a chance for treatment, the mri is done on all of my patients before treatment is started, the best websites to go over gh include magicfoundation.
Avatar n tn hI, my son now 15 underwent treatment and a bone marrow transplant for Neouroblastoma at the age of four. He's been on growth hormone treatment for 3 years now but with no result. He's only 144cm tall and his endocrinologist says there's no hope because his bones have finished growing and the only suggestion is the bone stretching surgery. Can anyone suggest anything else?
Avatar f tn In terms of growth hormone, prematurity and intraventricular hemorrhage are not generally associated with growth hormone deficiency unless there are problems with other hormones also. It is most likely that your granddaughter's small size is due to her former general illness and prematurity. Babies like her need a tremendous amount of nutrition to achieve "catch up" growth, which can sometimes be hard to obtain if she doesn't eat extremely well.
Avatar m tn We went to have multiple tests done and they confirmed that im producing next to no growth hormone, or something of that nature. Over the last couple years, I noticed that my friends have been getting taller, while im not. They said that if I dont get hormone injections, my platelets? will close and i wont grow at all. I am considering it and am wondering if there are any severe side effects the medication may have.
Avatar m tn I think what you might be talking about is growth hormone therapy, and yes, I do know a very little bit about it. Some children are born with a very low amount of the hormone necessary for proper growth. Typically this testing would take place if a child is not following his growth curve, not just because he or she is small in stature. For example, a child born in the 3rd percentile for height is considered normal and healthy as long as he stays on the 3rd percentile.
Avatar m tn Anyone have thoughts on promoting natural secretion of human growth hormone (hGH)?
Avatar m tn If your daughter is 12, actually the treatments are not really cosmetic. growth hormone while the name says growth, actually has more functions and some are very subtle like sleep and some are more real like muscle growth and bone growth. The social stigma of being different at this age can also have lasting effects - so if she starts to lose a lot of height and gets behind her peers, she may lose friends. It sounds shallow - but it really hurts and it does happen. It is just that age group.
Avatar n tn There is something called growth hormone you may want to ask if it can still be given in your age group, have you had a bone age xray ?
Avatar m tn I'm 16 years old and 5'7 I have not grown significantly for 3 years. My Dad is 5'10 and my mother 5'6. As said in the title my question is would injecting human growth hormone result in any additional height. I understand 5'7 isn't tiny but it is significantly smaller than my expected height (5'9 to 5'11) and like most kids my age i want to be as tall as possible.
Avatar n tn She was born without a thyroid. Now they want to test her for growth hormone deficiency because she is growing very slow and tested low on an igf1 test. She is on track in every other way but is just very small and hadnt grown at all between her 9 and 12 month check up.
Avatar n tn What you need to understand is that this is a t4 drug only ( only a storage hormone, not the active hormone t3). An elevated TSH is a sign that more t3 is needed. If the body can convert enough of the t4 into t3 then great. My daughter could not! The problem is that many doctors never check t3 and instead just assume that the t4 is converting. They often ignore the symptoms of hypothyroidism as long as the t4 and TSH are in "NORMAL RANGE". The ranges are also too broad.
Avatar f tn It can be due to testosterone deficiency, pituitary hormone deficiency, hypergonadotropic hypogonadism and growth hormone deficiency. Various investigations required are chromosomal studies, hormone studies like Gonadotropins (LH and FSH), Testosterone and DHT levels, thyroid hormone levels, ultrasonography and testosterone therapy. I would suggest you to consult a urologist and discuss this possibility with him.
327385 tn?1378360731 i had mri in dec no tumor recurence.is my pituitary hormones dropping.my neuo surgens nurse call told me growth hormone was low.and hung up on me.do i need hormone replacement?i feel awful.i have anixety very short temper, heart papaltations,i dont want to go or do anything.i have gained weight and feel awful about myself.i have numb fingers&tingles from elbow down.shoulders are so tight .have no intrest in sex, what is going on and what is your advice on where to go from here.
Avatar f tn Those tests are NOT sufficient for growth hormone - those tests are GH (growth hormone) and IGF-1 (which is the derivative hormone that that body actually uses). TSH is a pituitary hormone but often doctors will say it is normal and it is not. There can be a relationship, but I know more about low GH than elevated GH throwing things off frankly (sorry, I have low GH, not high). Now, being tall itself is not always a GH issue - it can be just... growth!
Avatar f tn Now, we have two nieces that actually did not have enough human growth hormone determined around 10 years old each. So, if your son falls off his curve, they may choose to check for that but this is pretty rare. Some people are just smaller and it is perfectly normal. And my kids have two grandpas that both were not over 5 foot 7, so the odds were that we'd get at least ONE child who was small in stature.
Avatar m tn is the growth hormone in a normal range for a 23 year old? and i also took a blood test at my gp and for chemistries my liver function and kidney function is fine and my thyroid(tsh) is at 1.344 which is also normal.
Avatar f tn I have a damaged pituitary and Hashi's. My Growth Hormone blood test is 0.03 [0.01-8.00] I'm a 49yr old female, abnormal on all sex hormones. What is the normal for someone my age? I asked the doc if I need replacement GH and he says he doesn't know. When I called the ins. company about coverage, they asked for a diagnosis and treatment code, and I don't know these.
Avatar n tn When I asked why her hormones were elevated, why her thyroid popped, why she is so tall, etc, I was told, well she is overweight and that can cause an increase in the release of growth hormone. She said she does not have an answer for us. I have seen many short fat kids. My daughter is not considered "fat" I am glad to hear that she does not have a tumor but I don't know if I believe it. They refuse to do an MRI. Should I be concerned? Should I let this go?
2006473 tn?1422033301 I recently went to the Gyno because I have had not stop spotting for the past few months and at first I thought it was just stress because things had been really stressful. However, now I have to go through a whole bunch of tests and have doctors explain to me a million things that he isn't even sure if I have and I am stressed out even more just thinking about it. My docotr thinks my hormones are most likely off and I am probably not ovulating.
Avatar n tn now they want to give him 6 months to grow and put him on a growth hormone and if that does not work a feeding tube. i really dont think he needs that stuff he healthy does everything normal like any other child he just no a big eater.
Avatar n tn My question is there a medical way of slowing down his epiphyseal closure and get his long bone growth to catch up so his mature height can reach its potential of what it was supposed to be before the bone age advancement that I believe resulted from taking the accutane. He also had blood work taken to see his growth hormone level. On a scale of 0 to 6 his Gh reading came back a .2 or 2 tenths which I took as almost 0.
