Avatar f tn Group B streptococcus, or GBS, also known as group B strep, is one of many different bacteria that normally live in our bodies. Approximately one third of us "carry" GBS in our intestines without knowing. About a quarter of women also have it in their vagina (RCOG 2003:1). Most don't know it's there, as it doesn't usually cause problems or symptoms. However, in rare cases GBS can cause serious illness and even death in newborn babies.
8856671 tn?1404143983 Group B streptococcus (GBS) is a type of bacterial infection that can be found in a pregnant woman’s vagina or rectum. It is not sexually transmitted. It's normally found in the vagina and/or rectum of about 25 % of all healthy, adult women. Those women who test positive for GBS are said to be colonized. A mother can pass GBS to her baby during delivery.

You having Group B strep does not mean you got it from your fiance, Group B can exist in both men's and women's digestive tracts and intestines, and sometimes it pops up and other times it does not. You could have had it for a long time, and also, you could give it to her and not the other way around. She should get tested for it.

Does anyone know if the result of the test will be affected since I had the previous yeast infection or is that something totally different? Is the yeast infection something I should bring up to my doctor during the appt on Tuesday? Any help will be appreciated!

1816154 tn?1463430018 have any of you ladies tested positive for the group B strep test before or even now if you got the culture done? im kinda embarrassed to ask my doctor about this but with that, are you allowed or not allowed to be sexual with your partner?
Avatar f tn Has anyone tested positive for Group B Strep (GBS) with a previous pregnancy? What was the outcome for baby? Has anyone been diagnosed with GBS this pregnancy? What is your plan to protect baby? Thanks for any input!
Avatar f tn So my last appointment I found out I was a carrier of group b strep:/ and I am kinda worried I'm allergic to antibiotics and worried the medications she wants to give me while in delivery won't work as good or the same as a antibiotic. Its bad enough I'm a germ freak and made my family and bfs family get the tdap shot now this!? Anyone else have to deal with group b strep?
Avatar n tn I got a phone call from my midwife this morning to come in that I needed to take antibiotics and I went in and the doctor told me I have group b strep! He told me it's nothing to worry about because we are treating it but he didn't give me any information I asked him what causes it he just kept saying it's common about 25% of population have it without knowing!
Avatar f tn My questions is, what are the treatments available for group b strep? I am 22 years old and not pregnant. It's taken me two years to go to the doctor about it because I always assumed it was thrush, as the symptoms are similar, itching, burning of the labia and perineum and extremely painful sex. Me and my partner just can't have sex which obviously has a big emotional impact on both of us.
