Avatar f tn Have you been tested for thyroid antibodies to make sure you do, in fact, have Graves disease and are not simply in a hyper phase of Hashimoto's? Both Graves and Hashimoto's are autoimmune. While Graves is always connected with hyperthyroidism, Hashimoto's is most often connected with hypothyroidism, however it's not uncommon for one to have periods of hyperthyroidism in the beginning stages. You should ask for thyroid antibody tests.
Avatar n tn Has your doctor told you, you have Graves Disease? Yes, your TSH is extremely low and your FT4 is extremely high, indicating that you are hyper, but your antibody tests indicate Hashimoto's. TSI is the definitive test for Graves Disease and I don't see that listed. Have you been put on antithyroid med?
Avatar f tn It is true that Graves' is virtually synonymous with hyper...virtually. However, there are several other conditions that can cause temporary hyper states - postpartum thyroiditis, DeQuervain's thyroiditis and, as you know, Hashi's can have a hyper phase. However, the hyper phase of all of these is typically shorter than yours has been.
Avatar f tn I've just been diagnosed with Graves' Disease. I have autoimmune thyroid disease that has changed from being primary Hashimoto's thyroiditis to Graves's Disease. I was diagnosed in 1997 with Fibromyalgia. I also have severe osteoarthritis, especially in both hands. What am I doing wrong? The doctor told me I'm a very strange case. What's that mean?
Avatar f tn hi i'm a 28 yr old woman and have suffered badly with symptoms from graves disease for 3yrs i've been on propylthiouracil for a year now as i had a severe allergic reaction to carbimazole! my symptoms include insomnia, severe fatigue, anxiety, bouts of depression, poor concentration, memory loss, bruising easily, dizziness, nausea and graves rage and weakened immune system (sick often). the problem is that i've recently had a blood test that read normal at 5.
Avatar f tn hello, i was diagnosed with silent thyroiditis (not related to pregnancy/post-partum) months ago because i was hyperT for a few months and now i'm hypoT. i was put on 88mcg of synthroid 6 weeks ago because my free t3 and free t4 were low and my tsh was 55.86. my current labs are free t4 normal and tsh of 9.29. should my synthroid dosage be raised? and if normal thyroid function could spontaneously recover, how would my body know to do so if i'm on synthetic hormone?
Avatar m tn Excerpt from Touch Endocrinology - Hashitoxicosis – Three Cases and a Review of the Literature... "It should be pointed out that, especially in the US literature, the term ‘hashitoxicosis’ is sometimes used to describe an autoimmune thyroid disease overlap syndrome of Graves’ and Hashimoto’s disease.2 In this article the term is strictly limited to the ‘leakage’ symptoms of active Hashimoto’s disease.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with Graves disease 11 years ago. My endo prescribed Methimazole, which I was allergic to, so he told me he didn't want to prescribe me anything else because sometimes the allergy kills the thyroid. It apparently did, because all of a sudden I was hypo and I had to go on synthroid. Since then, I lost my health insurance and got handled by my PCP instead of the endo (cheaper).
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed in April 2011 with Hashimoto's (the dx came after several different rounds of bloodwork, a thyroid ultrasound and the nuclear uptake scan.) I was prescribed synthroid and was told "we'd have to wait and see" how my symptoms responded to the meds. I would go for labwork every 6-8 weeks and each time, either I had to increase or decrease my synthroid dosage.
Avatar f tn Hopefully, you are at the hospital now, getting treated. Please keep us posted on how you do. When you get a chance, we'd like to know what the reference ranges are for the T3 and T4, and whether or not those tests are for Free or Total. BTW - my TSH stays at < 0.01, but I have hashimoto's vs Graves Disease, and am on thyroid replacement medication, so it's okay for me.

Avatar n tn 6 weeks after stopping synthroid I am still hyperactive. What should I do? Is it possible that I do have Graves Disease and he is wrong? Should other test be completed. I am struggling to function day to day and need relief.
Avatar n tn I have had steroids for my eyes and and tapazole nothing has worked. I have toxic nodoles along with Graves disease. I have changed my diet and tried different things what do you suggest. I'm not sleeping, I have gained most of my weight back with increased heart beat. What can I do.
Avatar f tn Has anyone else been diagnosed with both Grave's Disease and Hashimoto's Disease? About 15 yrs ago I was put on thyroid meds, very low dose, but was never diagnosed with Hashimoto's. Took it for about 3 yrs and then my dr said my reading was fine and took me off of it. Now 15 yrs later everything is out a wack with EVERYTHING and I've been diagnosed with Grave's Disease. At this time the Grave's is winning out and messing with my heart.

377600 tn?1225163436 When I did a lot of research on my thyroid gland, I found that scientists are looking into viewing Hashimoto's and Grave's disease as one disease--Autoimmune Thyroid Disease or Autoimmune Thyroiditis. Why? The immune system attacks both sufferers. In fact, I was given a Grave's diagnosis the first year and Hashimoto's the second year--after my gland finally died. Scientists see them as polar ends of a disease spectrum.
Avatar f tn Thyroid inferno refers to the colour Doppler appearance of the thyroid gland in active Graves disease (inclusive of variants such as Marine Lenhart syndrome), and consists of multiple small areas of colour flow seen diffusely throughout the gland representing increased vascularity and arteriovenous shunting.
Avatar f tn I just went to a new doctor. I saw 2 doctors(endos) they said continue taking these meds and test in 6 weeks. They also agreed that my tests really don't fit Graves disease anymore. WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME? I had my cortisol tested in August and it was normal 17 after a fast. Maybe it's piuitary related. All I know is I don't feel well at all. Thanks.
Avatar n tn I was recently diagnosed with Hashimoto's disease, so I went for my check up after mos. from the diagnosis. Now my doctor has prescribed me Tapazole 15mg a day, because my thyroid is overactive. However on the Internet Hashimoto's is associated with underactive thyroid, basically I don't understand. My doctor says I have both Hashimoto's and overactive thyroid. Is this possible?
Avatar m tn I have recently been diagnosed with both Graves' Disease and Hashimoto's Disease (Graves' is currently the active one) and am looking for others in the same situation. It would be great to hear about your experience. Thanks so much!
Avatar f tn "Hypoechoic" means it appears darker on the ultrasound than the surrounding tissue. Hypoechoic when used to describe a single thyroid nodule compared to surrounding tissues has a higher probability of being malignant, however, when the entire thyroid gland is described as hypoechoicit often indicates an inflammatory thyroid disease such as Graves or Hashimoto's. Heterogeneous echotexture is usually found in patients with Graves or Hashimoto's as well.
Avatar m tn All of the symptoms you've been having - irritability, stress, ibs pain, depression and anxiety can be symptoms of a thyroid condition. They can apply to both hyper and hypo. It's important to note that the TPOab antibody can be slightly elevated in Graves Disease, as well as in Hashimoto's; however, gimel is right that Hashimoto's can swing hyper, then hypo and may do this numerous times before finally swinging permanently hypo...
