Graves disease uptake scan

Common Questions and Answers about Graves disease uptake scan

graves-disease

Avatar f tn My thyroid test came back normal however the thyroid uptake scan, came back that I had Graves disease. The doctor is currently not doing anything. He believes that I do not have graves, but the scan was done three different times and each time it came back with the same thing. What do you suggust?
372751 tn?1310358305 This is likely graves disease. The uptake is normal or high in graves. You have a strong family history as well. The blood tests are the reflection of hyper vs hypo -- not the uptake values -- the uptake values tell us why someone is hyper (not if they are hyper)....ie low uptake is thyroiditis (transient) - normal or high is graves or toxic nodule(s).
Avatar f tn Obese patients can get Graves and there is not always weight loss. The Free T4 looks to be high-normal but the TT3 may be low-normal -- would need to look at reference range for that lab specifically. TPO is not specific for Graves, would suggest confirmation with TSI blood test and or I-123 uptake scan.
Avatar f tn Sounds like Graves - the uptake scan can help confirm cause of hyper and see if I-131 is a good treatment option. Meds are usually first line these days, with I-131 or surgery as back-up. I don't think I-123 scan, I-131 treatment or anti-thyroid meds would likely impact your IC, but you should check with your urologist.
Avatar f tn What prompted the uptake scan? Have you had thyroid function tests - Free T4, Free T3 and TSH? Have you had a thyroid ultrasound? Do you know if you have Hashimoto's or Graves Disease? Uptake is relatively uniform throughout the thyroid except for that lower left pole, which would be that possible hot nodule. It doesn't say if you have multiple nodules or just the one possible hot nodule on left lobe. Hot nodules are hyperfunctioning and non-cancerous.
Avatar f tn Hello Dr. Lupo good day to you, I hope you are still in the mood of answering my question.. It was confirmed that I have graves' disease and my doctor said that It is mild, my RAI uptake and scan: here's what it was said: FINDINGS: THE THYROID demonstrates slightly asymmetric increased of uptake within the right lobe of the thyroid but with overall homogeneous uptake throughout both lobes without focal nodular areas of uptake. The percent uptake at 3 hrs measured 44%.
Avatar f tn Looks like Graves' disease based on the significant elevation in T3 however to confirm this a TSI blood test or I-123 nuclear uptake would be required.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with Graves disease by my primary physicain . I had to wait 3 months to see a specialist because of an HMO, and I also saw a private physician the same week. They each have different treatment recommendations. I am developing the hyperthyroid eye also. The first physician recommends thyroid scan and uptake and then the iodine treatment, with a prednisone taper for my eyes prior. He says I am slightly anemic so I should bypass the antithyroid medication.
Avatar f tn I really thought I was losing my mind, I have had this for about 4 yrs and just now was diagnosed with Graves disease. My Dr put me on Methimazole and after 3 weeks had a severe reaction and was covered head to toe with a horrible insanely itchy rash. Mr Endo told me I have a couple options radio active iodine or somthing else which he did not tell me what. My question is how has the radio active iodine worked for others?
Avatar f tn I have graves disease. the endo dr wants me on antithyroid med for next 3 weeks , checking my blood each week. I want surgery asap. he says i need to be on the antithyroid med for a bit first and he will get with my ins and select a surgeon for me. he said my thyroid could be storing hormones inside it as part of this disease and wants to shrink it.
Avatar f tn I am wondering why my doctor would still want a thyroid uptake scan even though all my blood work came back normal? In March my family doctor did a free t4 level that came back high, so he ordered an ultra sound and referred me to an endocrinologist. I had the ulta sound in March which showed a 6 mm nodule on my thyroid.
Avatar f tn Ticks can potentially spread various diseases (eg: Lyme disease) so it's possible you have been infected and this has caused sudden changes in symptoms. Thyroid Peroxidase antibodies (TPOAb) are seen in both Hashimoto's and Graves disease. In Graves' disease, the antibody to test for is called thyroid-stimulating immunoglobulin (TSI) - sometimes called TSH receptor antibody (TRAb).
Avatar f tn Graves disease, multinodular goitre, thyroiditis). Along with the RAIU and scan, thyroid antibodies also need to be tested - TPOAb, TgAb and TSI.
Avatar m tn It should be pointed out that, especially in the US literature, the term ‘hashitoxicosis’ is sometimes used to describe an autoimmune thyroid disease overlap syndrome of Graves’ and Hashimoto’s disease.2 In this article the term is strictly limited to the ‘leakage’ symptoms of active Hashimoto’s disease." *** I've had both Hashi's and Graves antibodies simultaneously but I had been diagnosed with Hashimoto's thyroiditis previously.
Avatar f tn They only thing a scan would be linked to regarding the TSH would be an uptake scan for Graves disease or enlargment of the thyroid.
Avatar n tn I took a tracer dose and went back the next day for a full body scan. There was no uptake in my neck, great thing, but uptake in one of my salivary glands. I was concerned but the nuke med doctor and my endo said this was nothing to worry about, as uptake in the salivary glands was normal. My endo says from the results of my scan, I am cancer free. is it indeed normal to have uptake in the salivary glands? just looking for a little more confirmation. Should I be concerned? Thank you!
1446211 tn?1285698733 so the endo that i met with wrote me a script to take to the hospital to have the I123 Thyroid uptake scan. ive been putting it off for 2 weeks because i was trying to wean my daughter off of breastfeeding. now that ive read more about treating my hyperthyroid with RAI (which is what the endo suggested) ive come to the decision that im not interested. so im probably looking at surgery. do i still need this scan? id prefer not to have anything radioactive in my body.
