Graves disease uptake

Common Questions and Answers about Graves disease uptake

graves-disease

Avatar f tn Looks like Graves' disease based on the significant elevation in T3 however to confirm this a TSI blood test or I-123 nuclear uptake would be required.
Avatar f tn Hello Dr. Lupo good day to you, I hope you are still in the mood of answering my question.. It was confirmed that I have graves' disease and my doctor said that It is mild, my RAI uptake and scan: here's what it was said: FINDINGS: THE THYROID demonstrates slightly asymmetric increased of uptake within the right lobe of the thyroid but with overall homogeneous uptake throughout both lobes without focal nodular areas of uptake. The percent uptake at 3 hrs measured 44%.
Avatar f tn It measures 1.3cm. The report also said that the thyroid uptake is almost homogeneous with no retrosternal extension of thyroid activity, and that visually the uptake is mildly abnormal and over active. Could you please tell me what that means? The doc was testing for Graves and when I saw her she said that I didn't have Graves but that it is the nodule that is pushing out extra hormones. Here are the results and ranges. TSH .01 Range 0.40 - 3.50 FT4 27.6 Range 9.
372751 tn?1310358305 This is likely graves disease. The uptake is normal or high in graves. You have a strong family history as well. The blood tests are the reflection of hyper vs hypo -- not the uptake values -- the uptake values tell us why someone is hyper (not if they are hyper)....ie low uptake is thyroiditis (transient) - normal or high is graves or toxic nodule(s).
Avatar f tn I really thought I was losing my mind, I have had this for about 4 yrs and just now was diagnosed with Graves disease. My Dr put me on Methimazole and after 3 weeks had a severe reaction and was covered head to toe with a horrible insanely itchy rash. Mr Endo told me I have a couple options radio active iodine or somthing else which he did not tell me what. My question is how has the radio active iodine worked for others?
Avatar f tn Ticks can potentially spread various diseases (eg: Lyme disease) so it's possible you have been infected and this has caused sudden changes in symptoms. Thyroid Peroxidase antibodies (TPOAb) are seen in both Hashimoto's and Graves disease. In Graves' disease, the antibody to test for is called thyroid-stimulating immunoglobulin (TSI) - sometimes called TSH receptor antibody (TRAb).
1232907 tn?1367471737 The normal uptake is between 15 and 25%. A high uptake of 74.4% is most likely due to Graves' disease or hyperfunctioning nodules.
Avatar f tn My thyroid test came back normal however the thyroid uptake scan, came back that I had Graves disease. The doctor is currently not doing anything. He believes that I do not have graves, but the scan was done three different times and each time it came back with the same thing. What do you suggust?
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with Graves disease by my primary physicain . I had to wait 3 months to see a specialist because of an HMO, and I also saw a private physician the same week. They each have different treatment recommendations. I am developing the hyperthyroid eye also. The first physician recommends thyroid scan and uptake and then the iodine treatment, with a prednisone taper for my eyes prior. He says I am slightly anemic so I should bypass the antithyroid medication.
Avatar f tn Obese patients can get Graves and there is not always weight loss. The Free T4 looks to be high-normal but the TT3 may be low-normal -- would need to look at reference range for that lab specifically. TPO is not specific for Graves, would suggest confirmation with TSI blood test and or I-123 uptake scan.
Avatar f tn Hello Dr. Lupo, In March, I had a thyroid uptake test and ultrasound and my results are as follows: T3 - 0.87 (range 0.80-2.00), T4 - 1.2 (range 0.7-1.8), TSH - 0.61 (range 0.50-4.50). It was also stated that "moderate homogeneous radiotracer uptake in enlarged bilateral thyroid glands is suspicious for Graves disease". Both lobes are slightly enlarged. My thyroid impression is "mild diffuse thyroid enlargement".
5820022 tn?1378512355 "Graves disease usually yields RAIU values of 40 to 80% (normal 10 to 30%) at 24 hours. However, high-turn over varieties may manifest only as elevated 4-6 hour RAIU values (normal 4 to 15%), as 24 hour RAIU results may be normal or only mildly elevated." So, your result is toward the high end of the typical Graves' result.
Avatar f tn Sounds like Graves - the uptake scan can help confirm cause of hyper and see if I-131 is a good treatment option. Meds are usually first line these days, with I-131 or surgery as back-up. I don't think I-123 scan, I-131 treatment or anti-thyroid meds would likely impact your IC, but you should check with your urologist.
Avatar f tn i think they do the radioactive iodine test to determine whether the hyperthyroidism is caused by graves disease OR thyroiditis. normal to high uptake is usually graves and low uptake is usually thyroiditis. i had the test when i was hyper and was glad i did because initially they thought i had graves disease. turns out it was thyroiditis and i didn't need meds (until i went hypo).
Avatar m tn I was recently diagnosed with Graves disease but my TSI levels seem to be in the normal range. I don't show any physical signs of graves but my TSH and anti-thyroglobulin are out of whack. I started taking 10 mg of methimazole right around the beginning of April 2011 which seem to have brought my TSH level back to normal. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Here is my blood work history: 11/11/2010 ======== TSH - 1.49 T4 - 9.0 T3 Uptake - 34.0 Free T4 - 1.35 Free T4 Index - 3.
1039061 tn?1257878294 Hi everyone! I posted a question about a month ago, asking for some advice with the problems I was/am having with my thyroid. When I posted the question, one person who responded said I should post my labs and the results with the guidelines that were used. So I am going to post them because I still need help. So here are the tests that I have had done: ( I am typing them just how they appear on the copies that I have) Lab: Anti Thyroglobulin Antibodies 250h IU/mL 0 - 34 Lab: Total T4 6.
Avatar f tn Did he perform a radioactive iodine uptake scan? Did he test your blood for antibodies that are present with Graves disease? An endo is much more familiar with the diseases of our glanduar systems, but that doesnt mean your gp. couldnt make the call. I have Graves and my immediate symptoms were: rapid heart beat, weight loss, shakey hands, anxiety attacks and a few more. I saw my gp first and he sent me to an endo to do further testing when my tsh came back at .10.
199177 tn?1490498534 My husband was diagnosed with graves disease this last week .He sees the endocrinologist Monday is there anybody that can help me understand this and are the partiular questions he needs to be asking the doctor .
Avatar n tn I've been treated for Graves Disease with radioactive iodine 10 years ago. Since then I have been taking Levothroid. I recently changed to 150 Synthroid. Recently, my lab results came back as follows: Result Range TSH 0.3 .2 - 3.8 T4 7.4 5.9 - 12.5 T3 uptake 40.5 22.5 - 37 T7 3.0 1.3 - 4.6 Vitamin D 21.
Avatar n tn Hi, I've been treated for the last 4 years for Graves Disease with block and replace here in the Netherlands. Now, in preparing for a thyroidectomy, I had a scan which revealed thyroiditis. As far as I can see, this is not a symptom of Graves Disease. Without medication I am still hyper. Any ideas what this could be?
