Avatar f tn Similarly, sarcoidosis of the thyroid gland may develop in response to an established thyroid disorder including Gravesdisease, nodular goiter, and thyroid cancer. Avatar f tn s frequently causes hypothyroidism symptoms (too little thyroid hormone), Graves causes hyperthyroidism (too much thyroid hormone). I'm not a medical expert and don't know what small thyroid size means, especially in relationship to the other thyroid characteristics. Often with Hashimoto's or Graves, people may have an enlarged thyroid, especially as the disease progresses.
Avatar f tn I'm new to thyroid disease. I have an enlarged thyroid and blood work came back positive for an overactive thyroid. I have to wait until next week to have a thyroid uptake scan to find out more. Doctor says I have several symptoms of Graves Disease: losing weight, itchy skin, heat sensitivity, heart palpitations, insomnia, light mentstrual cycle, Raynauds (numbness and tingling), plus it feels like I have a lump in my throat with trouble swallowing.
Avatar f tn I am 32, have seen my Family Dr. I was diagnosed with graves disease. I have also seen a endocrinologist who has told me is was a goiter. Im confused, I know my thyroid is getting larger. I have several symptoms but can not get a solid answer. What is the differance between a goiter and graved disease? What are the treaments for both?
Avatar m tn Since your thyroid seems to be enlarged, you should ask your doctor to order thyroid function tests to make sure your thyroid is function at optimal levels. The thyroid tests you should ask for are thyroid hormones, Free T3 and Free T4, as well as the pituitary hormone, TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone). The enzymes mentioned was most likely Thyroid Peroxidase, which is an enzyme used to produce thyroid hormone.
Avatar f tn Hello Dr. Lupo, In March, I had a thyroid uptake test and ultrasound and my results are as follows: T3 - 0.87 (range 0.80-2.00), T4 - 1.2 (range 0.7-1.8), TSH - 0.61 (range 0.50-4.50). It was also stated that "moderate homogeneous radiotracer uptake in enlarged bilateral thyroid glands is suspicious for Graves disease". Both lobes are slightly enlarged. My thyroid impression is "mild diffuse thyroid enlargement".
1039061 tn?1257878294 No I haven't gotten the last tests yet. Endo said not til January. I have been thinking about taking the order to my PCP and seeing if she will order the tests so that I can find out for sure. What is your opinion?
522268 tn?1212200616 Enlarged thyroid (for about 5 years) Swelling on the fingers with sensitivity to cold (raynouds) Excessive sweating (for about 1 year) Poor memory Extreme Fatigue And most recently, I have had some trouble swallowing, heart palpitations and occasional swelling around my eyes. My thyroid has been tested more times then I can count because it's enlarged, also because my grandmother had Graves disease, but my tests results are ALWAYS normal.
Avatar f tn t taking my meds like I was supposed to so my levels were always high then a couple months after that I was hospitalized for dehydration, and my thyroid was leaking thyroid hormone.
Avatar f tn Graves disease is an autoimmune disease and would have to be confirmed by antibody tests - not just being hyperthyroid. Not all hyperthyroidism is Graves Disease. Hyperthyroidism can also be present with Hashimoto's, which is another autoimmune thyroid disease.
877337 tn?1249844450 Graves' disease may present clinically with one of the following characteristic signs: * exophthalmos (protuberance of one or both eyes) * a non-pitting edema (pretibial myxedema), with thickening of the skin usually found on the lower extremities * fatigue, weight loss with increased appetite, and other symptoms of hyperthyroidism * rapid heart beats * muscular weakness The two signs that are truly 'diagnostic' of Graves' disease (i.e.
Avatar f tn s safe to assume she had an overactive thyroid or graves, most likely graves. This means that there is a genetic component you may have inherited your moms genes. Before my dx of graves, my TSH was the same as yours. When the TSH is slightly low, and the T3&t4 are normal, you are considered ''subclinically hyperthyroid''. Meaning it's just a matter of time before you become hyperthyroid. I became hyper 2 yrs later and had a mild thyroid storm.
Avatar f tn This doesn't make sense: "It Said no focal areas of abnormal activity detected." Then in your follow up comment: ""Markedly abnormal study with increased radioactive iodine localization in 6 and 24 hours." Is it just the iodine uptake they're looking at, as abnormal? What are the reference ranges for uptake? Your Free T4 is on the high side, indicating that you might be hyper; however, your Total T3 is at 64% of range.
Avatar f tn It may be worth having a second opinion from an endocrinologist who specializes in thyroid before committing to surgery. You have hyperthyroidism with increased uptake, this is usually either toxic nodular thyroid or Graves' disease. Prior to surgery this hyperthyroidism may need to be corrected to decrease risks associated with surgery and anesthesia.
Avatar f tn Extemelly exhausted/tired all the time, don't hardly want to do anything, and that's not like me, I have pain on the right side of neck almost all the time that goes from the top right of neck to my shoulder, I have abnormal periods since November 2012, I lost almost 30 lbs, when I went in for that appointment in November. Avatar m tn Her investigations are consistent with Gravesdisease. There are no significant thyroid eye signs but the symptoms are such that I would like her to see Professor Chris Hammond, Consultant Eye Surgeon who has an interest in thyroid eye disease. In the interim I have advised her to continue on Propranolol SR 80mg daily, Carbimazole 20mg twice daily and I would be grateful if you could add in Desunin (Vitamin D3) three capsules daily.
Avatar n tn The hallmark symptoms of a thyroid storm is a fever which can go as high as 40.5 - 41.1 C (105 - 106 F).
