Avatar m tn I don't understand your question. Are you asking for a diagnosis? What are your actual test results for TSH, FT3, FT4, TPOab? Please post them, along with the reference ranges, since these are lab specific.
2079117 tn?1332020390 My endocrinologist diagnosed me with Graves Disease based on the low TSH and high TSI. However, the only symptoms I have are fatigue and possibly anxiety, although I don't have anxiety in general--usually just around exam times. If anything I am more sensitive to cold than to heat (and have always been), absolutely do not have trouble sleeping (it's waking me up that is difficult!), and have never in my life LOST weight. I have gained 5 or so pounds in the past year..
Avatar n tn Best thing I can think of is get some printed information on the Graves and give it to her to read. She may realise she has a lot of the same symptoms and go to the doctor. Maybe you can sit with her and talk to her in a quiet time with the printed info and have a chat to her that you feel very worried for her. Can't make a horse go to water and drink as they say but you may just find she might pay attention and go to the doctor.
Avatar f tn It should be pointed out that, especially in the US literature, the term ‘hashitoxicosis’ is sometimes used to describe an autoimmune thyroid disease overlap syndrome of Gravesand Hashimoto’s disease.2 In this article the term is strictly limited to the ‘leakage’ symptoms of active Hashimoto’s disease.
Avatar f tn 4 yrs ago i was diagnosed with graves disease and since i was about to move out of state and lose medical for a while my dr treated me in a hurry. After being assured that Graves disease was most likely what was wrong with me and having to sign a million wavers I was given a low dose of radioactive iodine and sent packing. Within 2 weeks of the treatment I was in the ER, I'm not sure what the level was but apparently I went from dangerously over active to crazy low.
Avatar f tn Last year I was diagnosed with Graves disease and had a radioactive ablation done in April. Sometime around March of 2009, my eyelids became puffy and my eyes were usually watery. I called my Endocrinologist and asked if this was related to my thyroid and she sugg. I visit my Primary Care Dr. I did and he followed an allergy path. I finally went to an allergist who said that allergies may be playing a role, it was not the primary cause.
Avatar f tn T3 Uptake is a different test, and it's considered obsolete and virtually useless. Despite its name, it's actually an indirect measure of T4. So, we have no idea what your T3 is doing. T3 and T4 are the two primary thyroid hormones. T4 is made exclusively in your thyroid. It's the "storage" form of the thyroid hormones. However, cells cannot use T4 directly; first it has to be converted to T3, the "active" form of the hormones.

514523 tn?1215832667 Hi anyone with graves and nodules? I was put on antithyroid meds and its a wait and see if the nodules are cancerous. Was wondering how bad are the side effects from the meds and does RAI give you cancer late if you do have nodules? I thought i had hot nodules but it turned out to be graves and is it hereditary?
Avatar n tn I am currently Hyperthyroid with a diagnosis of HAshimoto's disease and Grave's Disease. As far as vaccinating for Swine flu what is the general consensus?
Avatar f tn How did your family doctor make the diagnosis of Graves disease? Did he perform a radioactive iodine uptake scan? Did he test your blood for antibodies that are present with Graves disease? An endo is much more familiar with the diseases of our glanduar systems, but that doesnt mean your gp. couldnt make the call. I have Graves and my immediate symptoms were: rapid heart beat, weight loss, shakey hands, anxiety attacks and a few more.
Avatar n tn Hi, I've been treated for the last 4 years for Graves Disease with block and replace here in the Netherlands. Now, in preparing for a thyroidectomy, I had a scan which revealed thyroiditis. As far as I can see, this is not a symptom of Graves Disease. Without medication I am still hyper. Any ideas what this could be?
Avatar f tn I was recently diagnosed with Graves Disease which is an autoimmune disease associated with ur thyroid. I have noticed that I'm needing more pain meds than normal to relieve my pain. My question is, does this disease affect the relief I am supposed 2 be receiving from my normal dose? Basically, does my pain meds need to be increased or does my thyroid affect the digestion process of the meds?
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with Graves disease 11 years ago. My endo prescribed Methimazole, which I was allergic to, so he told me he didn't want to prescribe me anything else because sometimes the allergy kills the thyroid. It apparently did, because all of a sudden I was hypo and I had to go on synthroid. Since then, I lost my health insurance and got handled by my PCP instead of the endo (cheaper).
Avatar f tn You have hyperthyroidism. Most commonly this would be Graves' disease. The ultrasound did not show a nodule that would be "hot". The vascularity on the ultrasound was unremarkable, typically in thyroiditis this is a low. Classically in Graves' disease it is high but this does not exclude Graves' disease. The antibody you've had have been negative but these are nonspecific for Graves' disease.
Avatar f tn hi I have recently seen my doctor about 2 lumps on either side of my neck, he done blood tests which he said were basically fine, I am now having blurred vision and the lumps are causing uncomfortable ache in the back of my head, I have read about graves disease and many of the symptoms I have, could the doctor have missed graves disease?
Avatar n tn Elevated TPOab is, typically, a basis for a diagnosis of Hashimoto's, which IS a thyroid disease and can be present for many years without symptoms, though many/most people aren't ever tested for it until they have symptoms of the resulting hypothyroidism. Slightly elevated TPOab can also be present with Graves Disease, which is another thyroid disease, and there are those, that have both Hashi's and Graves.
Avatar f tn Have you been tested for thyroid antibodies to make sure you do, in fact, have Graves disease and are not simply in a hyper phase of Hashimoto's? Both Graves and Hashimoto's are autoimmune. While Graves is always connected with hyperthyroidism, Hashimoto's is most often connected with hypothyroidism, however it's not uncommon for one to have periods of hyperthyroidism in the beginning stages. You should ask for thyroid antibody tests.
Avatar f tn M PCP told me i had graves disease and referred me to an endo. The endo said that all of my symptoms "were in my head and nothing was wrong". A few years go by and I see my PCP again and asked how I have been treating my thyroid problems and I said "I don't have one". He showed me the consult report from the Endo confirming my PCP diagnosis. My question is this, What am I to do now? I have lost about 20 lbs. when i only weighed 110 2years ago and hair loss.
2899052 tn?1436831245 I'm recently diagnosed with hyperthyroidism with Graves' disease. The endocrinology doctor prescribed me Methimazole 10mg (3 tablets) in morning, that's 30mg. I also have to take Propranolol (3 times a day) every 8 hours to control my palpitation. I'm very concerned about take Methimazole because I heard it will give me liver problem and I'm very scared of taking radioactive because it can harm my eyes. Am I wrong? I need to know if they are they safe?
377600 tn?1225163436 When I did a lot of research on my thyroid gland, I found that scientists are looking into viewing Hashimoto's and Grave's disease as one disease--Autoimmune Thyroid Disease or Autoimmune Thyroiditis. Why? The immune system attacks both sufferers. In fact, I was given a Grave's diagnosis the first year and Hashimoto's the second year--after my gland finally died. Scientists see them as polar ends of a disease spectrum.
