While I would have to do some checking around on this can you post the reason for the removal? - Is it for Graves disease?
I really thought I was losing my mind, I have had this for about 4 yrs and just now was diagnosed with Graves disease. My Dr put me on Methimazole and after 3 weeks had a severe reaction and was covered head to toe with a horrible insanely itchy rash. Mr Endo told me I have a couple options radio active iodine or somthing else which he did not tell me what. My question is how has the radio active iodine worked for others?
My mother was diagnosed in her early 40s with graves disease and her thyroid was removed, around the same time she was diagnosed with stage 3-4 colon cancer. I'm aware there are connections between autoimmune diseases and thyroid and intestinal diseases/conditions. As I'm getting older I'm noticing I'm following in the same physiological footsteps my mother did before she was diagnosed.

I have had graves disease for 5-6 years now. I take one 10 mg of Methimazole at night time and that is all. I have been very stable on my medicine for years now. I have also been very lucky to not have any problems with my eyes or other symptoms of that nature. I always get concerned when thinking about pregnancy because I want to make sure it is safe for me to conceive. Also, I know that your thyroid can get worse and better during and after pregnancy.
Last year I was diagnosed with Graves disease and had a radioactive ablation done in April. Sometime around March of 2009, my eyelids became puffy and my eyes were usually watery. I called my Endocrinologist and asked if this was related to my thyroid and she sugg. I visit my Primary Care Dr. I did and he followed an allergy path. I finally went to an allergist who said that allergies may be playing a role, it was not the primary cause.
Hi, I've been treated for the last 4 years for Graves Disease with block and replace here in the Netherlands. Now, in preparing for a thyroidectomy, I had a scan which revealed thyroiditis. As far as I can see, this is not a symptom of Graves Disease. Without medication I am still hyper. Any ideas what this could be?
I ended up with two thyroid storms from graves/hyper, NOT fun at all. I did the RAI, but the graves/hyper was to far advanced for it to help me. I ended up having to have surgery anyway after the RAI.
My heart rate was 140 sitting down, my eyes bulged out, I was down to 88lbs despite eating non-stop. Trust me get it treated before it gets worse. Thyroid storms are not any fun...
But you can always get a second opinion from an endo if it puts your mind at ease.
My GP has diagnosed me with Graves Disease after obtaining the following lab results:
TSH <0.03 (RR 0.40 - 4.00)
Free T4 13.2 (RR 10.6 - 20.5)
Free T3 5.4 (RR 3.3 - 6.2)
Thyroglobulin Antibodies 17 (RR <150)
TPO Antibodies 399 (RR <50)
Thyroid ultrasound- "...thyroid normal in size, however diffusely inhomogeneous with increased vascularity..."
- Both antibodies tested can be present in BOTH Graves and Hashi's.
Elaine Moore tends to believe that immunotherapy (allergy shots) makes Graves Disease worse, and can possibly bring on the Graves Eye Disease. She recommends that allergies be treated with the cortisone-type nose sprays and antihistimines instead, because of the nature of an autoimmune disease. I was about to start shots, but now I am reconsidering. Does anyone have information on this subject? Thanks!
Thyroid inferno refers to the colour Doppler appearance of the thyroid gland in active Graves disease (inclusive of variants such as Marine Lenhart syndrome), and consists of multiple small areas of colour flow seen diffusely throughout the gland representing increased vascularity and arteriovenous shunting.
Graves is an autoimmune disease and unfortunately for life. Controlling whether they raise or suppress is key to beating the symptoms of the disease.
If you are on Levo now - your labs must be abnormal and now lean towards hypoT levels. You would feel like cr@p right now with the swinging patterns you have been on.
"Once Graves.... always Graves" is the saying here. But I am positive your endo or ???
In order to do that, you have to research, research, research. And in the middle of this the pt usually does not feel like having these confrontations with the dr, so they are not properly treated. That is why the pt needs an advocate.
I am sure someone will be along with some ideas on your question, just wanted to put my 2 cents in.
My interenist suspected Graves, ergo the reason for the tests. My concern is that I have some of the classic symptoms of Graves, but my test results show me to be in the normal range.
I'm wondering if others have had their values fall in the normal range but second level testing (e.g., radioactive iodine test) revealed a problem.
It looks like you might have more than one thyroid autoimmune disease going on. You are positive on the thyroid stim test which is indicator of Graves, but yet you are high on TPO Ab which is indicator for Hashimoto's. TSH shows low but your Frees are normal range. Your Free T3 is actually pretty low normal. With these antibodies, your thyroid levels may be swinging all over the place. When are you do back for another set of thyroid labs? You should have a TSH, Free T4 and Free T3.
