Avatar f tn Interesting question! I myself quit smoking in March of 09 and in early July 09 was diagnosed extremely hyperthyroid. In fact, at my dr. appointment I told him I was going to start smoking again because I was healthier when smoking!! { lol } I don't know if quitting smoking causes thyroid disorders, or maybe when you are smoking you are suppressing your thyroid { not good either } but this would definitely be an interesting topic to keep exploring! Mellowscout...joyful.

Avatar f tn My eyes are so dry and they buldge. Are you a smoker? Smoking makes the eye disease worse. It is very common to have Graves of the eyes if you have Graves Thyroid disease. My doctor told me that he would treat me with prednisone to get the swelling behind my eyes down and last resort would be surgery. You probably need to research an eye doctor that specializes in Graves. Where do you live? My doctor is at Rush Hospital in Chicago.
Avatar n tn i recently tried to quit smoking and my legs started to ache badly about 5 hours after my last cigarette, whenever i sat down for a few minutes at a time. is this normal or is it a sign of something bad? i looked up 'leg pain, smoking' and found out there's something called buerger's disease and i'm scared i might have it. i have never experienced pain of any kind before after not smoking for a while (much less after 5 hours).
Avatar n tn When seen at this age, it is almost always a result of the disease, alpha-1 antitrypsin disease. Your son’s doctors should check his blood for this problem. Emphysema severity ranges from mild to very severe and the CT scan can give an estimate of this. What; you need to know is what is the severity and this can be determined best, not by the CT scan, but by pulmonary function tests (PFTs). Your son must quit smoking if there is to be any chance of slowing the progression of the emphysema.
Avatar m tn I have read about the effects of quitting smoking, and that they can sometimes last for weeks/months; however, prolonged periods of pain/stress will be counterproductive for someone who is also trying to cope with chronic liver disease, even if the end result is to detoxify the body... Hence my question...and looking for palliatives which will not harm the liver. (Yoga...meditation...diet...all this is already part of her daily life). Thank you very much, Arusha.

Avatar f tn t be ruled out based on your symptoms. There could be a nerve spasm or pinching. In the process of quitting smoking can have an effect. During the quitting process people should consider the following physical symptoms of withdrawal as they were recuperating from a disease and treat them accordingly as they would any physical symptoms that include tingling in the hands and feet, heart palpitations, etc....
Avatar f tn So i'm 12 weeks and after smoking roughly 10-15 cigarettes a day before I got pregnant, i'm down to one or two a day. I was told that quitting cold turky would be worse for my baby (especially dealing with depression and anxiety) so even though I've cut down and plan on quitting some time this week, could there be any significant damage done to my baby? I'm really worried and wish I just would have quit when I first found out..
Avatar f tn Congratulations on quitting smoking! One of the biggest issues with smoking during pregnancy is low birth weight babies. You've stopped at a time when babies really start picking up their weight. That occurs over the last several weeks, so you are giving your baby a good chance of picking up weight and being born at a more healthy weight.
Avatar m tn The only way to slow down the progression of the disease is to stop smoking. After quitting for awhile the lungs may regenerate themselves to some degree. I am one year younger than you, doc told me if I did not quit smoking I would not live to draw retirement. I quit.
Avatar f tn Honestly I had an incredibly hard time quitting smoking I tried several different remedies none worked until I mad up my own here's what I did.... Since we all want the best for our lovely babies they also in turn become our best motivation...
Avatar f tn Hello. I've quit smoking for 3 weeks now after 32 years of smoking. I am using the patch and my doctor put me on zyban when I saw her sept 5 because I couldn't stop crying. The crying has gotten better I feel terrible. I think I'm obsessed with my breathing to the point where I feel it all the time. My chest feels tight. I feel myself inhaling all the time. I've been to the emergency room twice now in two weeks. Chest films taken. They put me on high does prednisone for.
