Graves disease normal values

Common Questions and Answers about Graves disease normal values

graves-disease

Avatar n tn My interenist suspected Graves, ergo the reason for the tests. My concern is that I have some of the classic symptoms of Graves, but my test results show me to be in the normal range. I'm wondering if others have had their values fall in the normal range but second level testing (e.g., radioactive iodine test) revealed a problem.
5820022 tn?1378512355 "Graves disease usually yields RAIU values of 40 to 80% (normal 10 to 30%) at 24 hours. However, high-turn over varieties may manifest only as elevated 4-6 hour RAIU values (normal 4 to 15%), as 24 hour RAIU results may be normal or only mildly elevated." So, your result is toward the high end of the typical Graves' result.
372751 tn?1310358305 This is likely graves disease. The uptake is normal or high in graves. You have a strong family history as well. The blood tests are the reflection of hyper vs hypo -- not the uptake values -- the uptake values tell us why someone is hyper (not if they are hyper)....ie low uptake is thyroiditis (transient) - normal or high is graves or toxic nodule(s).
Avatar f tn Graves disease is an autoimmune disease and would have to be confirmed by antibody tests - not just being hyperthyroid. Not all hyperthyroidism is Graves Disease. Hyperthyroidism can also be present with Hashimoto's, which is another autoimmune thyroid disease.
Avatar f tn In conclusion, our findings indicate that because of low sensitivity of sonography, differentiation between Graves’ disease and Hashimoto’s thyroiditis is not possible but due to high specificity it can differentiate normal thyroid from Gravesdisease or Hashimoto’s thyroiditis. It is suggested that if thyroiditis or Graves’ disease is defined by sonography, it should be further confirmed by clinical and laboratory with laboratory data. " https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.
Avatar f tn Are there any suggestions on an area I might research based on the below values? Please help if you have similar values, know someone with similar values or have suggestions based on your experiences or research. DHEA LOW 16 Range 35-430 Ferritin LOW 5 Range 6-200 Thyroglobulin HIGH 171 Range 1.6-59.9 TSH LOW .23 Range .6 - 4.5 Free T4 BORDERLINE LOW .9 Range .8-1.
Avatar m tn I finally saw an endo last week and she thinks I have Graves but my test results today show free T3 and T4 within the normal range even though TSH is suppressed. I was supposed to have RAI uptake scan today with ablation treatment to follow but had to cancel due to a CT Scan with contrast I had done last week. I guess I'm just looking for support from others like me.
7726696 tn?1393688452 Likely: Autoimmune disease (Graves disease). Treatment I think is usually medication. If that fails surgery or Radioactive Iodine treatment. Less likely: Thyroiditis. Thyroid inflammation, typically resolves over a few months. Not so likely: Benign hormone secreting tumor. Often called a hot nodule because it shows up strongly on radioactive iodine uptake test. Treatment is surgery. A doctor should be able to help you figure out what the cause is and what treatment is needed.
Avatar f tn Graves Disease is an Autoimmune Disease and usually when one autoimmune disease is found, there is usually a 2nd one found (this one being Diabetes). The Graves and Hyperthyroidism can be treated by either anti-thyroid meds or pernmanant treatment which will eventually stablaise the Diabetes although this is extremely hard if the Diabetes has been undetected for a long time. And something to watch for is ...Metformin can interefer with thyroid medications.
Avatar f tn m wondering if anyone know about tsi levels, mine is 156 now after a battle with graves disease for the last year. My thyroid t4 and T3 are normal now, but my TSH is still 00.01. I'm only on 5mg methimazola, but if I don't have dairy I only have to take 2.5 of atd.
Avatar f tn Thyroid stimulating immunoglobulin (TSI), also known as stimulating TSH receptor antibody (TSHRAb), stimulates the thyroid gland to enlarge and release excess amounts of thyroid hormone. Greater than normal levels may indicate Graves' Disease or Hashitoxicosis. One study found TPOAb levels elevated in 90% with Hashimoto thyroiditis and 64% with Graves' disease.
Avatar f tn I am still awaiting report on my RAIU. My doctor is considering Hashitoxicosis vs. Graves disease. I am 43 and had permanent sterilization 5 years back. Please guide me about likely diagnosis.
Avatar f tn In 2005 I was diagnosed with Graves disease by an uptake scan and lab values. I took tapazol for about 6 months and all symptoms including severe anxiety, panic attacks, vertigo, sweating at night stopped. So I discontinued the tapazol. I was fine until September 2007 I had a severe UTI my symptoms returned and my labs showed slight hyperthyroidism. I am now diagnosed with Hashimotos thyroiditis and still waiting to feel better.
Avatar m tn The problem with labs that operate on very unusual ranges like ALT ULN being 70, is that you can not be sure whether their ranges are a) truly adjusted to the normal values, or b) it is the case that they are going by old range standards, or c) the mix of both a) and b).
Avatar f tn s syndrome because he said all my results were normal and it is a rare disease. If anyone has any info on the subject, that would be wonderful! I am just at my witts end here, I have been from doctor to doctor, specialists and I just need to find out why I feel like this.
Avatar n tn you could have graves disease, hashimotos disease, or silent thyroiditis. each condition is treated differently. from what you've posted, it doesn't seem like your doctor has done all of the tests necessary to determine which condition you have. am i right?
Avatar f tn Graves Disease is never cured BUT it is managed better without a thyroid or after RAI. You still have the antibodies but no thyroid for it to attack. As for meds, you swap one lot for another. You go from anti-thyroid meds to a T4 medication so basically you are on meds for life. The thyroid regulates every organ in your body and if no thyroid, meds have to do the job. Hyperthyroidism is a lot easier to manage without a thyroid.
Avatar n tn ve been having these severe migraines for over 2 months now, my eyes hurt terribly from all the pressure, im not sure if its the pressure in my nerves from all the spasms and intense pain and weakness im having in my limbs but im scared that its ocular migraines, i could not read properly with having bad pain in my head, i have graves disease but with my doctors appoinment yesterday at the endocrinologist the doc says im 'normal' when im everything but the muscle weakness is so sever i
Avatar f tn Have you been tested for thyroid antibodies to make sure you do, in fact, have Graves disease and are not simply in a hyper phase of Hashimoto's? Both Graves and Hashimoto's are autoimmune. While Graves is always connected with hyperthyroidism, Hashimoto's is most often connected with hypothyroidism, however it's not uncommon for one to have periods of hyperthyroidism in the beginning stages. You should ask for thyroid antibody tests.
Avatar m tn Sounds like the uptake is high -- meaning either Graves' disease (most common) or toxic nodule(s) in the thyroid.
Avatar n tn If you don't mind. I see you posts starts out as Graves Disease and you are looking for a surgeon? While I would have to do some checking around on this can you post the reason for the removal? - Is it for Graves disease?
