Avatar f tn Have you been tested for thyroid antibodies to make sure you do, in fact, have Graves disease and are not simply in a hyper phase of Hashimoto's? Both Graves and Hashimoto's are autoimmune. While Graves is always connected with hyperthyroidism, Hashimoto's is most often connected with hypothyroidism, however it's not uncommon for one to have periods of hyperthyroidism in the beginning stages. You should ask for thyroid antibody tests.
Avatar f tn I just went to a new doctor. I saw 2 doctors(endos) they said continue taking these meds and test in 6 weeks. They also agreed that my tests really don't fit Graves disease anymore. WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME? I had my cortisol tested in August and it was normal 17 after a fast. Maybe it's piuitary related. All I know is I don't feel well at all. Thanks.
548115 tn?1214658786 Hello. I am 30 years old. I have celiac. My doc asked for some thyroid tests cause I've been losing wait and have menstrual problems. the results were: TSH 1.32 (normal) FT4 1.33 (normal) FTS 2.8 (normal) ANTI - TPO 27.4 (HAD TO BE <5.6) ANTI -TG 80.5 (HAD TO BE <4) My doc said that ANTI TPO and ANTI TG maybe elevated because of celiac, and that I don't have graves cause TSH, FT3 and FT4 are normal.
Avatar n tn I had the same thing, but I was tested for pituitary disease, and it came back negative. They are treating me for Graves Disease even though my T4 is not high. I must admit I am feeling much better. Hope you get a solution soon!
Avatar f tn Graves Disease is never cured BUT it is managed better without a thyroid or after RAI. You still have the antibodies but no thyroid for it to attack. As for meds, you swap one lot for another. You go from anti-thyroid meds to a T4 medication so basically you are on meds for life. The thyroid regulates every organ in your body and if no thyroid, meds have to do the job. Hyperthyroidism is a lot easier to manage without a thyroid.
Avatar m tn I was recently diagnosed with Graves disease but my TSI levels seem to be in the normal range. I don't show any physical signs of graves but my TSH and anti-thyroglobulin are out of whack. I started taking 10 mg of methimazole right around the beginning of April 2011 which seem to have brought my TSH level back to normal. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Here is my blood work history: 11/11/2010 ======== TSH - 1.49 T4 - 9.0 T3 Uptake - 34.0 Free T4 - 1.35 Free T4 Index - 3.
Avatar f tn hi i'm a 28 yr old woman and have suffered badly with symptoms from graves disease for 3yrs i've been on propylthiouracil for a year now as i had a severe allergic reaction to carbimazole! my symptoms include insomnia, severe fatigue, anxiety, bouts of depression, poor concentration, memory loss, bruising easily, dizziness, nausea and graves rage and weakened immune system (sick often). the problem is that i've recently had a blood test that read normal at 5.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with Graves disease 11 years ago. My endo prescribed Methimazole, which I was allergic to, so he told me he didn't want to prescribe me anything else because sometimes the allergy kills the thyroid. It apparently did, because all of a sudden I was hypo and I had to go on synthroid. Since then, I lost my health insurance and got handled by my PCP instead of the endo (cheaper).
Avatar n tn Hello. I'm 36 and I am almost 9 weeks pregnant. I have Graves' disease and had radiation treatment back in 2009. I hadn't been taking my thyroxine constantly for a few months as I was super stressed and now that I am pregnant haven't missed a dose. My thyroid levels are still very high and I'm worried that this will affect my baby's brain development/IQ levels. Has anyone else had similar experiences? I'm scared and worried.
Avatar n tn In october I was normal. In November I went severely hypo - TSH 111. In one month from Oct. to Nov. TSH went from .37 to 111. So yes, it was fast for me but again high dose at high uptake. It took awhile to get stabilized but here I am a year later feeling good and TSH is 1.39. Its a tough decision. I had no eye involvement. I think I will always worry about that happening. Going severely hypo was no picnic either.
Avatar n tn 1. Is this normal, that the TSH acts like this ? How is the typical pattern of relapse? Does TSH sometimes act some special way before relapse? 2. Does there exist any fT3/fT4 standard ratio?
Avatar f tn What med are you taking? What are the actual T3/T4 levels and are they Free T3 and Free T4 or Total T3 and Total T4? Be sure to include reference ranges with any labs posted. Have you been tested for Graves Disease or Hashimoto's Thyroiditis? Both are autoimmune diseases that attack the thyroid. All Graves Disease is hyperthyroidism, but not all hyperthyroidism is Graves Disease.
Avatar f tn In the mid august I had my second visit with the endocrinologist who continued insisting with Graves disease. When I questioned her about the absence of Graves antibodies she responded that I had the abTG antibodies to confirm the diagnosis. Now, one month after my latest tests, I am confident I have entered hypothyroidism. I have been eating less, yet I have gained 2-3pounds in 10 days. I am sure it's water retention. I feel a bit tired. My last period came 4 days earlier than usual!
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with graves disease and had the radioactive treatment to destroy it a few years back. I have had a few times where I did not have my meds for a week at a time. Is it normal to feel so tired and cranky? Also I took Zirtec for my allergies and I felt like I was cloudy and just wanted to sleep and tightness in my chest..... I am currently on 137 mcg of Levothyroxine.
Avatar f tn It seems odd that it would take two years to diagnose Graves' disease. Also odd that her thyroid levels (did they do a complete thyroid panel or just TSH?) are normal...by definition Graves' is HYPERthyroid so high levels of thyroid hormones should be found (and low TSH) If you feel that she is being misdiagnosed, definitely seek another opinion.
Avatar n tn Graves is an autoimmune disease and unfortunately for life. Controlling whether they raise or suppress is key to beating the symptoms of the disease. If you are on Levo now - your labs must be abnormal and now lean towards hypoT levels. You would feel like cr@p right now with the swinging patterns you have been on. "Once Graves.... always Graves" is the saying here. But I am positive your endo or ???
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with Graves disease about two months ago. My question is about Tapazole. My first blood test was done in February, it showed 0.03 TSH and 24 Free T4. I started to take Tapazole in March - 10 mg a day. The result of my last blood test is 11 Free T4 and high TSH 6.16. I am supposed to keep taking Tapazole for another month. I am puzzled why I should keep increasing TSH when it is already high.
Avatar f tn I've just been diagnosed with Graves' Disease. I have autoimmune thyroid disease that has changed from being primary Hashimoto's thyroiditis to Graves's Disease. I was diagnosed in 1997 with Fibromyalgia. I also have severe osteoarthritis, especially in both hands. What am I doing wrong? The doctor told me I'm a very strange case. What's that mean?
Avatar f tn My GP has diagnosed me with Graves Disease after obtaining the following lab results: TSH <0.03 (RR 0.40 - 4.00) Free T4 13.2 (RR 10.6 - 20.5) Free T3 5.4 (RR 3.3 - 6.2) Thyroglobulin Antibodies 17 (RR <150) TPO Antibodies 399 (RR <50) Thyroid ultrasound- "...thyroid normal in size, however diffusely inhomogeneous with increased vascularity..." - Both antibodies tested can be present in BOTH Graves and Hashi's.
Avatar n tn After a year of methimazole for Graves, my TSH raised to normal levels and my free T4 normalized. After a few months of no treatment, my TSH level began to rise in January 2014, and hasn't stopped. At first my endocrinologist was reluctant to prescribe more than a token amount of levosynthroid, although I was becoming symptomatic with hypothyroid symptoms. She feared Graves disease returning.
Avatar f tn Looks like Graves' disease based on the significant elevation in T3 however to confirm this a TSI blood test or I-123 nuclear uptake would be required.
Avatar f tn Began symptoms last 2 years, TSH in normal range but suffer intolerance to cold, elevated BP and pulse rate, fatigue and sleepless nights. Can I have Graves with normal TSH. Recent labs below. Also had thyroid uptake after ultrasound that showed possible hyperthyroidism. Have several nodules that have never been Biopsied is it consistant to wait until ranges are abnormal before Biopsy? Could meds have effected the T3 that much in just a week?
15915009 tn?1488868338 m 17 and was officially diagnosed with thyroid storm, which was linked to untreated graves disease just over 1 1/2 years ago. It has been misdiagnosed for ADHD around 4-5 years ago. I'm still on antithyroid pills to this day. I'm hoping to get off of them soon, but is it possible to have a relapse later in life after I have not been taken them, if Graves Disease will be with me for the rest of my life and if I need to get my blood checked every so often?
