Avatar f tn Thyroid levels are the prevailing diagnose. So, if your thyroid levels are normal, what constitutes you as having Graves' disease? GL, January is Thyroid Awareness Month, a month when various organizations put together informational efforts to help us all learn more about thyroid disease here in the U.S.
Avatar f tn As I understand it, having your thyroid removed makes you immediately hypo, and you have to take synthroids to supply your hormones. I can't say for sure, as I had the RAI treatment done instead of surgery.
Avatar n tn The levels are normal, there is no evidence of thyroid disease at this point -- the TSI is normal - does not look like Graves.
Avatar n tn Definitely, get a second opinion! Your thyroid can make you feel terrible even when you are within range. I had Grave's for years, but was told "let's see what your thyroid levels are in 6 months". When my levels were normal, I had all of the symptoms, but was told "oh, it's probably just anxiety". Unfortunately, I listened to my doctor and took medications that I didn't need to take.
Avatar n tn Hello. I'm 36 and I am almost 9 weeks pregnant. I have Graves' disease and had radiation treatment back in 2009. I hadn't been taking my thyroxine constantly for a few months as I was super stressed and now that I am pregnant haven't missed a dose. My thyroid levels are still very high and I'm worried that this will affect my baby's brain development/IQ levels. Has anyone else had similar experiences? I'm scared and worried.
Avatar f tn He advises symptoms are not Graves disease as my levels are now in normal range. I am fortunate that I have a caring family doctor that is persistent. I have seen a neurologist and next having ultrasound and seeing a internist. Couple of facts. Initially in July when diagnosed I had slight tremors once on thyroid med/tapolzole the shaking got worst and I ended up in the hospital. The endocrinologist said it was Graves/my symptoms.
Avatar n tn iam apatient who suffers graves disease. My question is : Although I am almost 4 months on Carbamizole treatment 60 mg + Taking inderal ( propanalol), but the levels of my T4 & T3 are still high and the levels of TSH is less than 0.01. what do you think , should i sstop the medication and think of the other allternatives like the radioactive iodine or surgical removal?
Avatar f tn Similarly, sarcoidosis of the thyroid gland may develop in response to an established thyroid disorder including Gravesdisease, nodular goiter, and thyroid cancer. Patients with Gravesdisease may also have concomitant conditions of sarcoidosis affecting the lungs. Patients with systemic sarcoidosis may also develop sarcoid lesions in various organs including the thyroid gland.
Avatar n tn Unfortunately, all of the tests your doctor ordered are obsolete and not very useful, except the TSH and vitamin D. Your TSH is every doctor's dream... You should ask your doctor to test the active thyroid hormones, Free T4 and Free T3. These will tell you exactly what you need to know, along with your symptoms. It would also be helpful if you asked to be tested for thyroid antibodies.
877337 tn?1249844450 Graves' disease may present clinically with one of the following characteristic signs: * exophthalmos (protuberance of one or both eyes) * a non-pitting edema (pretibial myxedema), with thickening of the skin usually found on the lower extremities * fatigue, weight loss with increased appetite, and other symptoms of hyperthyroidism * rapid heart beats * muscular weakness The two signs that are truly 'diagnostic' of Graves' disease (i.e.
Avatar n tn I have a nodule on my right thyroid gland...they did ultrasound, normal, a biopsy, normal, and a thyroid uptake scan, normal, but I still have the nodule, and they can't figure out what is going on. Both blood tests I have recieved, my Free T4 has come back normal, but my TSH levels are very very low, almost non-existant. The one taken in December my Free T4 was 0.98NG/DL and my TSH was <0.06L mIU/L.
Avatar f tn It seems odd that it would take two years to diagnose Graves' disease. Also odd that her thyroid levels (did they do a complete thyroid panel or just TSH?) are normal...by definition Graves' is HYPERthyroid so high levels of thyroid hormones should be found (and low TSH) If you feel that she is being misdiagnosed, definitely seek another opinion.
Avatar f tn hi i'm a 28 yr old woman and have suffered badly with symptoms from graves disease for 3yrs i've been on propylthiouracil for a year now as i had a severe allergic reaction to carbimazole! my symptoms include insomnia, severe fatigue, anxiety, bouts of depression, poor concentration, memory loss, bruising easily, dizziness, nausea and graves rage and weakened immune system (sick often). the problem is that i've recently had a blood test that read normal at 5.
Avatar m tn In order to get thing back as they were you have to level out the thyroid levels to more-normal state prior to getting the tone back. In Graves disease with the high levels of hormone in your body it will take away the muscle build. And to exercise thinking that will build it back - prior to getting stabilized, the body can under go exhaustion in other things that can worsen you.
Avatar n tn If you don't mind. I see you posts starts out as Graves Disease and you are looking for a surgeon? While I would have to do some checking around on this can you post the reason for the removal? - Is it for Graves disease?
1039061 tn?1257878294 No I haven't gotten the last tests yet. Endo said not til January. I have been thinking about taking the order to my PCP and seeing if she will order the tests so that I can find out for sure. What is your opinion?
Avatar f tn High Antibodies is an indication of Auto-Immune disease ie Graves or Hashimoto's, also the fact that nodules exist. You should insist your MD do a Free T3 test, which should determine your thyroid situation, since Free T3 is the actual thyroid hormone your body needs to function, and along with the Free T4 will tell the story. The TSH is a pituitary hormone and not a Thyroid hormone. Why would you be forced to wait a year to see an Endo?
Avatar f tn my son was a newly diagnosed "graves disease" pt. he was given tatazole tablet 5mg. to be taken after breakfast for one month, what are the side effect of tatazole, the things he have to avoid and if you can give me more/additional information about the disease. thanks!
Avatar f tn In conclusion, our findings indicate that because of low sensitivity of sonography, differentiation between Graves’ disease and Hashimoto’s thyroiditis is not possible but due to high specificity it can differentiate normal thyroid from Gravesdisease or Hashimoto’s thyroiditis. It is suggested that if thyroiditis or Graves’ disease is defined by sonography, it should be further confirmed by clinical and laboratory with laboratory data. " https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.
15915009 tn?1488868338 If you haven't had any antibodies measured, then you don't even know if you have Graves Disease... You have to have Thyroid Stimulating Immunoglobulins (TSI) tested in order to confirm Graves Disease... otherwise, you could be in a hyper phase of Hashimoto's and may go back to normal or hypo on your own. You must insist on antibody tests to find out what you actually have.
Avatar n tn My uncle has Grave's disease. It's an autoimmune disease that unfortunately always plagues you in one shape or another even after the radiated iodine treatment. Since thyroid disease runs in my family, and I have borderline hyperthyroid tendencies, I always keep an eye on the thyroid board on MedHelp. The folks there are very knowledgeable. You may want to pop in there for some advice as well. Both diseases (FM and Graves symptoms overlap) Make sure you stop back in both places.
110220 tn?1309306861 My dr indicated that apprx 80% of hyperthyroidism is a result of Graves disease. The other 20% are caused by a few other issues with the Thyroid such as nodules. I was hoping that I had a hyperthyroid period. Graves disease sounds depressing and deadly. I know that it isn't deadly and people live normal lives once under control.
