my son was a newly diagnosed "graves disease" pt. he was given tatazole tablet 5mg. to be taken after breakfast for one month, what are the side effect of tatazole, the things he have to avoid and if you can give me more/additional information about the disease. thanks!
The symptoms of Graves Disease would be those of hyperthyroidism, such as sudden weight loss, sweating when others are comfortable to cool, diarrhea, hand tremors, heart palpitations (these can be present with hypothyroidism as well), rapid heart rate, irritability, mood swings, fatigue and many others.

I am a 25 y/o female diagnosed with hyperthyroidism at 16 and later with Graves Disease and Goiter. I have been on Tapazol along with Atenelol (for the Tachacardia) off and on for the past 9 years with no results. Every doc I see wants to discuss nothing but RAI or surgery. Graves Eye Disease , caused or mad worse by the Iodine treatment. If you think Graves Disease is bad? Let me tell you Graves Disease is a walk in the park compared to the EYES being messed up. Let no Endo rush you into that fast cheap fix. Make sure you are eating properly and see a eye doctor to check for Graves Opthamology. I can tell you this, after being Hyper ..... Hypo is no fun at all. When are used to having tons of energy, having none is pure hades.
Graves Disease is never cured BUT it is managed better without a thyroid or after RAI.
You still have the antibodies but no thyroid for it to attack.
As for meds, you swap one lot for another.
You go from anti-thyroid meds to a T4 medication so basically you are on meds for life.
The thyroid regulates every organ in your body and if no thyroid, meds have to do the job.
Hyperthyroidism is a lot easier to manage without a thyroid.
iam apatient who suffers graves disease. My question is : Although I am almost 4 months on Carbamizole treatment 60 mg + Taking inderal ( propanalol), but the levels of my T4 & T3 are still high and the levels of TSH is less than 0.01.
what do you think , should i sstop the medication and think of the other allternatives like the radioactive iodine or surgical removal?
The antibodies that cause Graves Eye Disease (or thyroid eye disease) are totally different from the antibodies that cause either Graves Disease (thyroid) or Hashimotos. Your thyroid levels won't have an impact on your eyes. In fact, some people have the eye problems without ever having thyroid problems.
That being said, if you have one of the autoimmune thyroid diseases (Hashis or Graves), you could also have thyroid eye disease.
this could be a symptom of Graves' disease or the combination of the medication and the Graves' disease.
I found out via an email that I have Graves' disease . 4 weeks ago I learned I had hyperthyroidism and was placed on methimazole 10mg2x a day. The email for the type came 3 weeks later and it was frightening to read about. I felt exhausted for months had stomach issues and lost 15 pounds in a month.
4 weeks into the medication I have a distended stomach with pains and horrible rashes.
All that said I'm completely stressed about the eye issues that come with graves.
im not sure what that is, been told i had overactive thyroid and that it was graves disease, just take the meds ive been given.
my girlfriend has graves disease and a hyperactive thyroid she also has bipolar in her family and I believe she also has that. she's very irrational which is expected and the more I read the more I'm convinced she has bipolar. how cannot get get to see someone about it without her getting upset??
At first my endocrinologist was reluctant to prescribe more than a token amount of levosynthroid, although I was becoming symptomatic with hypothyroid symptoms. She feared Graves disease returning. I see her every 6 weeks and get blood drawn, and she has gradually raised the synthroid every time so that I am up to 112 mg per day. Obviously, every time I get labs done, I am thyroid-deficient. The last TSH level was 9.5.
9.5 is high, but not super high. Nonetheless, I feel exhausted.
Something we did not expect was him having Aortic Stenosis. Graves Disease causes numerous symptoms so we thought it was the disease causing his heart problems. He just took the treatment for the Graves so it's going to be a month or so before the treatment starts to show some results. He has another test scheduled next week with an Interventional Cardiologist.
I've read alot of material on Graves Disease and Aortic Stenosis, but I have not found any material on having both diseases.
