Avatar f tn My Endo says I will need surgery eventually due to unknown long term sides effects of using PTU (we both ruled out RAI due to eye issues that I have) . However, it seems that surgery is such a drastic step for treating something that is so well-controlled on such a low dose of meds. We are even trying to go as low as 1/4 pill every other day.
Avatar n tn Is there anything else we can be doing? What is the long-term outcome? (Her Endo says she will commit to one eventually.) Are there any studies addressing this condition that I can use for research? (I want to have a firm grasp of her condition and right now, I don't understand it at all.
Avatar f tn I am a 25 y/o female diagnosed with hyperthyroidism at 16 and later with Graves Disease and Goiter. I have been on Tapazol along with Atenelol (for the Tachacardia) off and on for the past 9 years with no results. Every doc I see wants to discuss nothing but RAI or surgery. My husband and I have been trying to conceive for a few years with no success. I finally found out that I was pregnant the beginning of last year and made it to 4 months and suffered a miscarriage for no apparent reason.
Avatar m tn It should be pointed out that, especially in the US literature, the term ‘hashitoxicosis’ is sometimes used to describe an autoimmune thyroid disease overlap syndrome of Graves’ and Hashimoto’s disease.2 In this article the term is strictly limited to the ‘leakage’ symptoms of active Hashimoto’s disease." *** I've had both Hashi's and Graves antibodies simultaneously but I had been diagnosed with Hashimoto's thyroiditis previously.
Avatar n tn iam apatient who suffers graves disease. My question is : Although I am almost 4 months on Carbamizole treatment 60 mg + Taking inderal ( propanalol), but the levels of my T4 & T3 are still high and the levels of TSH is less than 0.01. what do you think , should i sstop the medication and think of the other allternatives like the radioactive iodine or surgical removal?
Avatar n tn last may i was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism due to graves disease. my symptoms included: trouble sleeping fatigue weight loss (approx. 15 pounds in 3 weeks with no change to lifestyle) increased bowel movements elevated heart rate trembling hands... by the time a doctor gave me a prescription for tapazole and propanolol, a lot of my symptoms had gone away. i took the meds for about 2 months before stopping.
Avatar f tn IF a one time does is giving by mouth, what are the side effects and long term advise reaction and contra-indications of radioactive iodine?
Avatar f tn Patients who take Synthroid to treat an underactive thyroid need to be cautious that they do not take too much. Most patients on thyroid medicine have Hashimoto’s thyroiditis like you, while a smaller number take thyroid medicine because of thyroid cancer or Graves disease. Too much thyroid medicine increases the activity of the osteoclasts (the cells that break down bone) and may increase your risk for fracture.

Avatar n tn Sorry, Graves Disease is an autoimmune disease that is life long, though there are treatments for it that can allow you to live a normal life. What symptoms prompted you to get tested for thyroid issues? What tests were done to diagnose Graves? There's no reason that, once properly treated, you shouldn't be able to play sports again..
Avatar m tn It affects the Liver badly. get your liver enzymes checked but wouldnt be a bad idea to get a full complete blood count done.

415642 tn?1207784582 I am taking advil all day long for a headache and it just does not stop it. How long have you had Graves ? What treatment options did you discuss / take ?
Avatar n tn In many other countries, they advise long term suppressant use as treatment for Graves rather than surgery or RAI like they do in the US. I would say for now, get your bloodwork done every month and make a follow up appointment with your endo for three months to discuss your pregnancy hopes and long term options. I would also say go to an eye doctor that treats TED as soon as possible just to make sure.
Avatar n tn Graves is an autoimmune disease and unfortunately for life. Controlling whether they raise or suppress is key to beating the symptoms of the disease. If you are on Levo now - your labs must be abnormal and now lean towards hypoT levels. You would feel like cr@p right now with the swinging patterns you have been on. "Once Graves.... always Graves" is the saying here. But I am positive your endo or ???
Avatar f tn Has anyone diagnosed with Graves disease had a successful remission without surgery? If yes, how long did it take and how did you know you were back to normal? I am debating the surgery vs long term use of thryoid suppressants.
Avatar n tn If you don't mind. I see you posts starts out as Graves Disease and you are looking for a surgeon? While I would have to do some checking around on this can you post the reason for the removal? - Is it for Graves disease?
Avatar n tn I have had steroids for my eyes and and tapazole nothing has worked. I have toxic nodoles along with Graves disease. I have changed my diet and tried different things what do you suggest. I'm not sleeping, I have gained most of my weight back with increased heart beat. What can I do.
Avatar m tn I am currently taking PTU to help with my Graves' Disease but was wondering if anyone had any suggestions I could do to help? Changes in lifestyle, dietry changes, vitamin supplements etc? My aunt is a GP and a trained herbologist, she recommended chrysanthemum tea as a way of correcting my metabolism. Maybe we could compile some kind of list of things that help either Hyper or Hypothyroidism? Thanks so much.

Avatar f tn Therapy with antithyroid drugs is typically thought of as either short term or long term. Short-term therapy is used to make the thyroid blood tests normal before a decision is reached about definitive therapy. Long-term therapy is used in some patients to try to make the disease go into remission even after the antithyroid drug is stopped. Beta-blockers: Beta-blocker drugs, such as atenolol, do not block the production of thyroid hormone.
Avatar f tn I received my thyroid ultrasound results today, and my doctor explained the findings suggested I had Graves disease. She then explained in depth about it. When I got home, I looked at a copy of the US report and it said chronic thyroiditis. I Googled that term and it kept popping up with Hashimoto's, so I'm slightly confused now whether my Dr accidentally messed up or if chronic thyroiditis can also mean Graves? Thanks for any/all help!
Avatar n tn I have switched to Armour thyroid in 1993 (Hyperthyroidism from Graves Disease and the removal of my thyroid gland) since I found I was allergic (or having a reaction) to synthroid. The symptoms after starting the synthroid was a metal taste in my mouth. I kept developing more and more symptoms every month I was on it (digestive problems, staid muscles) until I finally (after being on it for nine months) developed rheumatoid arthritis symptoms over my entire body.
Avatar f tn Did I develop neutropenia from the Graves disease and how do I stop the neutropenia from getting worse? Also, what are some things that I should avoid as a result of my neutropenia? In addition, my heart rate ranges from 120-140 and I feel very tired and confused. Are these feelings a result of my heart rate? Thank you in advance.
