Avatar n tn Hello. I'm 36 and I am almost 9 weeks pregnant. I have Graves' disease and had radiation treatment back in 2009. I hadn't been taking my thyroxine constantly for a few months as I was super stressed and now that I am pregnant haven't missed a dose. My thyroid levels are still very high and I'm worried that this will affect my baby's brain development/IQ levels. Has anyone else had similar experiences? I'm scared and worried.
Avatar m tn The antibody test results you posted above, are both markers for Hashimoto's. While Hashimoto's is, typically, associated with hypothyroidism, early stages are often characterized by periods of hyperthyroidism swinging to hypo and even normal, before settling into permanent hypo. You need Thyroid Stimulating Immunoglobulin (TSI) to diagnose Graves Disease and you don't have that one. Graves is always associated with hyper. What symptoms do you have?
Avatar f tn FT3 (3.5-6.5) TSH (.05 - 4.00) FT4 (10.0 - 19.0 ) Post yr Labs here so others can comment and try and help.
Avatar n tn What are the results of your most recent thyroid blood tests? Please post them and be sure to include reference ranges, which vary lab to lab and have to come from your own report. Have you been tested for either Graves Disease or Hashimoto's Thyroiditis? Graves Disease is always associated with hyperthyroidism, but not all hyperthyroidism is Graves Disease. The definitive test for Graves Disease is Thyroid Stimulating Immunoglobulin.
Avatar f tn Elaine Moore tends to believe that immunotherapy (allergy shots) makes Graves Disease worse, and can possibly bring on the Graves Eye Disease. She recommends that allergies be treated with the cortisone-type nose sprays and antihistimines instead, because of the nature of an autoimmune disease. I was about to start shots, but now I am reconsidering. Does anyone have information on this subject? Thanks!
Avatar f tn These antibodies can also be elevated with Graves disease as well but the test to also request for Graves disease is Thyroid-Stimulating Immunoglobulin (TSI). In Australia, the blood test for Graves is called TSH receptor antibodies (TRAb).
Avatar f tn I have Graves disease and take Armour. Stupidly, I had several drinks and drove my car. I was pulled over and my blood alcohol was almost 2! I only had 2 glasses of wine! Could Graves disease have affected my alcohol level?
168348 tn?1379357075 I started giving up on doctors here in Australia and have just accepted it is my lot in life to put up with feeling so crud. I got a call though yesterday to go back to the doctor though, as my last thyroid test is 'abnormal' Lord only knows what they mean by that! Maybe my Free T3 is FINALLY low enough that they are reacting????? Most days I just get on with it. I have excellent days, and I do feel happy those days. Then I have bleurgh days!
Avatar f tn I dont know about other countries but anything over 33% here (Australia) on the Uptake Scan is usually Graves.
Avatar m tn I am new to this as well. From what I have researched and read here, it sounds like you might have Graves Disease. Research it on the net. When you go for your test, be sure to have a full panel thyroid screen checking especiall for TSI (antibodies for Graves), TSH, Free T4 & Free T3. Like I said, I am new here but I feel pretty sure that others here will say the same thing or close to it. I hope you get the answers you are looking for.
Avatar n tn once you have an autoimmune disease, you have it for life. The most you can hope for is remission. You had Graves disease and your thyroid was removed because it produced too much hormones; however, removal of the thyroid means you have no hormones of your own, which is why you were put on the thyroxine - to replace what you could no longer produce.
929504 tn?1332585934 Just googled it as a big fan of baseball here in Australia and am friends with George Lombard and Pookie Wilson who played here a few years ago. Seems Hyperthyroidism is the issue but at first they thought he had taken a growth hormone because of the TSH being low. Also says hes had it for a few years so who knows? I just hope he gets it treated. Says nothing about Graves Disease and they usually test for that with Hyperthyroidism. Maybe he has it and was in remission.
Avatar f tn ] When tests are done in places where a disease is rare or absent (for example, Lyme disease in Australia), many positive tests will be falsely positive. [Faulty logic, basing the premise on the conclusion -- we don't have Lyme in Australia, therefore any positive tests are erroneous.] The tests to diagnose Lyme disease are technically complex and require specialist expertise.
Avatar f tn Hi iam a 28 year old female, mother of 3 i live in australia. I have a family history of hyperthyroid disease/ graves (my mum) and hypothyroidism ( my mums mum)- and 1 case of thyroid cancer (my dads grandmother) I myself have been diagnosed with a goitre diffuse with a nodule just under 2cm.
Avatar f tn Hey, Doc~ I'm sure you understand that it isn't just any tick that will produce Lyme disease after having bitten someone. You know that they are deer ticks that have been infected, and hence carry the disease. I'm sorry about the cat. My goodness! But there's no way to tell if the tick that latched onto kitty infected the cat with Lyme or something else. (Not saying it can't have been Lyme!) I found a site that says Lyme was first documented in Australia in 1980.
534194 tn?1213416842 I have Graves' eye disease, not bulging eyes. Mine is swollen eyelids. My vision is blurry and it has worsened over the course of three years. My thyroid eye specialist said that there is a thickening of my muscles behind the eyes. I get double vision and extreme sensitivity to light. If I'm in the sun too long, even with sunglasses, I see bright white spots. I'm wondering if anyone has the same Graves' eye disease I did, swollen eyelids and what the prognosis was?
Avatar n tn Graves is an autoimmune disease and unfortunately for life. Controlling whether they raise or suppress is key to beating the symptoms of the disease. If you are on Levo now - your labs must be abnormal and now lean towards hypoT levels. You would feel like cr@p right now with the swinging patterns you have been on. "Once Graves.... always Graves" is the saying here. But I am positive your endo or ???
