Avatar n tn Antibodies are very specific to the thing they attack (think of the antibodies made by your body after a flu shot - every year, the strain of flu expected is different, so every year, the flu shot is made of different viruses so your body will make the right antibodies to fight of the flu if you are exposed). You will still have the Graves antibodies in your body, but they won't have anything left to attack.
Avatar f tn Elaine Moore tends to believe that immunotherapy (allergy shots) makes Graves Disease worse, and can possibly bring on the Graves Eye Disease. She recommends that allergies be treated with the cortisone-type nose sprays and antihistimines instead, because of the nature of an autoimmune disease. I was about to start shots, but now I am reconsidering. Does anyone have information on this subject? Thanks!

1211076 tn?1303519440 Some years I would get it, others I would not get the shot. I have never heard of the flu shot attacking the antibodies. I for the last couple of years do not get the flu shot, but only because I am too lazy to go get it done... I think everyone reacts different to things, so what happens to one by getting it will not happen to the other. It all comes down to, Do YOU want to get it...
Avatar f tn As long as you get the shot vs the nose spray you'll be fine. My ob wants me to get the flu shot asap.

10175413 tn?1427170251 The CDC recommends annual flu shots for everyone over the age of 6 months, unless you have had a severe allergic reaction to a prior flu shot. The formulation of the flu shot changes every year to protect people from current strains.
Avatar f tn t get the flu shot, you will probably get the flu, this year or next. It is a contagious illness, and pretty unpleasant. Besides, you could be a party to spreading it around if you have been exposed. Why would you not get it?
Avatar f tn Mine did to but i will not get the flu shot bc onve u get it then pretty much u will get the flu so i am not getting it
Avatar f tn I was thinking about getting it but I think I have decided not to. Often times the strain of flu the shot is prepared for isn't the flu that ends up spreading.
212161 tn?1599427282 FYI, this years flu shot contains the H1N1/swine flu from 2009. I have notinet a few other posts regarding this years flu shot and reactions...... (article below) This year the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) gives clear guidelines that everyone aged 6 months and older should get the influenza vaccine. This month the American Academy of Pediatric recommends that all healthcare providers should be required to get the influenza vaccine.
535882 tn?1396576685 I used to think the same way, but one year I caught the flu, and looking at how serious it gets today, I take the shot, and you cannot get the flu from the shot, it is not a live virus. some who have come down with it after the shot, have come in contact with it already, it takes about two weeks to be immune after the shot.
Avatar n tn I am so not getting a flu shot even if my doc tells me too. I have had the flu shot three times. Each year I had one I got the flu, when I haven't had it, I did not get it. I do want to caution and let you guys know, that the flu shot is usually manufactured to fight a specific strain if the strain that presents is not the one that you were given the shot for it won't work. Also, I catch everything and share with my family too.
Avatar n tn I am 20 years old and I had my gallbladder removed when I was around 15 years old. I keep getting letters in the mail saying to get my flu shot because of liver disease. I am now 21 weeks pregnant, should I be concerned about the letters? And should I be talking to a dr about them? Or are they normal to get when you had something removed from your body?
Avatar f tn "In conditions of chronic urticaria, thyroid antibodies are not only indicators of chronic inflammation, but they appear to play a role in the disease process. In most cases, improvement of urticaria with thyroxine replacement hormone suggests that chronic thyroid inflammation may initiate a hypersensitivity reaction and an underlying thyroid hormone deficiency. However, rarely, patients with chronic urticaria have undiagnosed conditions of Graves' disease.
