Avatar n tn The sleeping aids may only be temporary but diet/exercise might be life long situations, so pick a diet and exercise program that you can live with for life, especially if weight is genetic predisposition. I only gained back half of what I lost pre RAI, where now I weigh what I should for my height, however I do watch my diet. Good luck!
877337 tn?1249844450 My husband and I are trying to loose weight. I have Graves and am struggling. We have reduced our portions, gone on a low-fat, low-carb diet. We have switched to whole grains/wheat and drinking water or green tea. I may have lost a pound or two but thats it. Do you have any suggestions? We are genuinely trying. Can somebody suggest a diet plan or site that might help? Thanks for your time.
Avatar m tn How were you treated for Graves Disease? Are you now hypo? Are you on thyroid replacement hormones? If so, which ones, what dosage and for how long have you been on it? It's possible that you need to increase your med dosage, if you aren't losing weight. Typically, when thyroid hormone levels are adequate weight will come off. If you have current labs you could post, that would be helpful for us.
Avatar m tn It is much ore like what our bodies make. Did you have Graves disease is an autoimmune disease that affects your thyroid as we know. Do you have a positive ANA now that you have had the radiation?
Avatar f tn I've just been diagnosed with Graves' Disease. I have autoimmune thyroid disease that has changed from being primary Hashimoto's thyroiditis to Graves's Disease. I was diagnosed in 1997 with Fibromyalgia. I also have severe osteoarthritis, especially in both hands. What am I doing wrong? The doctor told me I'm a very strange case. What's that mean?
Avatar f tn I see that you have Graves Disease. Do you, also, have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis? Some people do have them both. Do you still have your thyroid? While some people do very well taking Iodine, it's not usually recommended for those of us with Hashimoto's, unless under the very strict supervision of your doctor. I'm not sure about Graves disease, but I'd not take iodine without doctor supervision, since most people get enough in the foods they eat, via the salt.
Avatar n tn This is when I started to self diagnosis myself as having Graves disease. My symptoms were sweating all the time, heat and light sensitivity, rapid heart rate of 120 sitting, muscle weakness (could hardly walk down steps!), and a huge appetite, frequent bowel movements, and my hands would shake all the time. Before this occured I was very much into lifting weights and running long distances. When I started to see my endocrinologist she said my TSH was less than .
Avatar n tn If you don't mind. I see you posts starts out as Graves Disease and you are looking for a surgeon? While I would have to do some checking around on this can you post the reason for the removal? - Is it for Graves disease?
Avatar f tn Nope. You can read most labels on the diet pills that you should not take it with thyroid disease. If it's not on there - google it. When I was on Methimazole - that's when my weight started climbing too.
2080300 tn?1349055553 Is it possible to loose this weight with my issues? With diet and exercise not working, I feel I could stop eating and die of starvation without loosing weight!
199177 tn?1490498534 My husband was diagnosed with graves disease this last week .He sees the endocrinologist Monday is there anybody that can help me understand this and are the partiular questions he needs to be asking the doctor .
Avatar n tn I have been going to an Endocrinologist for almost 1 year. He has done several ultrasounds showing that I have 5 tumors on my thyroid. I have a biopsy which showed they were benign. I recently had another ultrasound which showed one of the tumors had shrunk but another one appeared.
Avatar f tn Graves Disease is an Autoimmune Disease and usually when one autoimmune disease is found, there is usually a 2nd one found (this one being Diabetes). The Graves and Hyperthyroidism can be treated by either anti-thyroid meds or pernmanant treatment which will eventually stablaise the Diabetes although this is extremely hard if the Diabetes has been undetected for a long time. And something to watch for is ...Metformin can interefer with thyroid medications.
5820022 tn?1378512355 but, it might help if I had one with similar issues as me. I used to be very thin and I loved exercise. Since graves disease struck, it took me from that fit, energetic girl, into a woman who couldn't make it up 3 small steps on my porch with out my legs shaking from exertion and my heart pounding out of my chest for the next hour. I was completely unable to do everyday activities (like walk up my porch and into my home), and ontop of that I had an ulcer and didn't realize it.
Avatar m tn Sounds like your girlfriend might have an autoimmune disease called Graves Disease. I'd have to know what blood tests she had in order to know whether she was tested adequately or not.. Graves Disease causes hyperthyroidism, whose primary symptom is weight loss. Another possibility is diabetes, but it would depend on how long she's had the weight loss issue. If it's very long, she'd have other symptoms of diabetes.
Avatar f tn I agree with both..I have t-3 toxicosis, that's an elevated free t-3 with normal free t-4.Definitely ask for the Graves antibodies tests, before you do anything, that's the true way to find Graves disease. Mine is, or was 109. I have Graves, although a mild case.
Avatar f tn No one understands!! Not even family. And doctors do not believe anything I say about what has been going on with my body, my symptoms, and my weight. With the weight gain from graves' and graves' eye disease..I don't want to be seen or go out and run into people.
5820022 tn?1378512355 Hello all, I'm going to attempt to describe my situation in full and I would greatly appreciate any advice or encouragement from fellow hyperthyroidic patients or doctors who treat them. Three months ago I went to my general practitioner in hopes of finding a treatment for my severe migraines. The nurse noticed that my pulse was extremely high at resting (155). This led to blood tests an more visits, resulting in a diagnosis of Graves' disease induced hyperthyroidism.
Avatar n tn Hi. About 2 years ago and six months postpartum with my youngest child, I started having a resting heart rate of 120 and easily went to 180 just standing in line at Wal-mart. I was also dizzy, and I felt like a windup toy that couldn't shut off but felt exhausted nonetheless. I also lost about a pound a day--the one good thing! The doctor said it was probably thyroid, ordered blood tests, and my TSH was 0.001, my free T3 was 4.7 and my free T4 was 7.
Avatar n tn While Graves Disease is always associated with hyperthyroidism, not all hyperthyroidism is Graves Disease, because Hashimoto's, which is most often associated with hypothyroidism, is often characterized by periods of hyperthyroidism in the early stages and can even swing back and forth between hyper, hypo and normal.
Avatar n tn Elevated TPOab usually indicates Hashi's. While Hashi's ends up being hypo, it can be hyper in early stages or can swing back and forth from hypo to hyper. TPOab can be somewhat elevated with other autoimmune diseases as well, like Graves' disease. And, though it sounds a contradiction in terms, you can have both Hashi's and Graves' antibodies. Your FT4 looks really good. It's at 56% of range, which is just above the 50% guideline.
Avatar f tn Graves Eye Disease , caused or mad worse by the Iodine treatment. If you think Graves Disease is bad? Let me tell you Graves Disease is a walk in the park compared to the EYES being messed up. Let no Endo rush you into that fast cheap fix. Make sure you are eating properly and see a eye doctor to check for Graves Opthamology. I can tell you this, after being Hyper ..... Hypo is no fun at all. When are used to having tons of energy, having none is pure hades.
Avatar m tn Graves Disease is an autoimmune disease where the Graves Disease antibodies attack the persons thyroid causing hyperthyroidism (levels of FT3, FT4 too high and TSH too low. Left untreated it can be very dangerous. Get your Sister to see an Endocrinologist but in the meantime whilst waiting for an appointment, get her to her local Doctor to start treatment of anti-thyroid medications.
1314073 tn?1282841674 I was just diagnosed with Graves Disease. I've been doing reasearch on the Internet and now I am TERRIFIED! Are my eyes going to bulge and my hair fall out? Does this happen to everyone with Graves Disease. I know this sounds vain, but fear is fear and this is all I can think about. Thanks for any help you can give me.
Avatar m tn i have been diagnosed with graves disease recently, and did a lot of reasearch on it, and found out with this illnnes i lost lot of muscle mass. my question is that can i exercise and reverse the muscle damage? or is this illness responsive to exercise?
