Avatar f tn Also only about 5% of people develop problems with their eyes. They are mostly smokers and most problems with your eyes develop within 6 months of your treatment of Graves disease. Anything is possible and anyone could develop problems with their eyes but the majority does not. The longer you have had Graves disease without having problems with your eyes the less likely it is to happen.
Avatar f tn Also, I know that your thyroid can get worse and better during and after pregnancy. Does this make the risk for my eyes to pertrude heighten? or are the two non-related? One last thing is I heard the risk for your eyes to pertrude is actually really low (mostly only smokers) is this true?
Avatar n tn t think I have had the bug eyes that I read about with Graves. This has happened periodically and at first I thought it was my contacts but I did not have them in the night before. I know this condition is connected with Graves but is there any treatment? I am miserable.
Avatar f tn I also have Graves disease and from my understanding you are never "cured", but, once your thyroid is either dead or you have it removed you should no longer be suffering from the symptoms. Except the protruding eyes, that is the only symptom that they can't reverse. That you are going to have to live with for the rest of your life. That's why it's so important to get treated before that happens. I would say that your tiredness is from being perimenopausal.
Avatar f tn Hi - I am undergoing tests for Graves of the eyes. My eyes are so dry and they buldge. Are you a smoker? Smoking makes the eye disease worse. It is very common to have Graves of the eyes if you have Graves Thyroid disease. My doctor told me that he would treat me with prednisone to get the swelling behind my eyes down and last resort would be surgery. You probably need to research an eye doctor that specializes in Graves. Where do you live? My doctor is at Rush Hospital in Chicago.
Avatar n tn I have had steroids for my eyes and and tapazole nothing has worked. I have toxic nodoles along with Graves disease. I have changed my diet and tried different things what do you suggest. I'm not sleeping, I have gained most of my weight back with increased heart beat. What can I do.
Avatar n tn The antibodies that cause Graves Eye Disease (or thyroid eye disease) are totally different from the antibodies that cause either Graves Disease (thyroid) or Hashimotos. Your thyroid levels won't have an impact on your eyes. In fact, some people have the eye problems without ever having thyroid problems. That being said, if you have one of the autoimmune thyroid diseases (Hashis or Graves), you could also have thyroid eye disease.
558632 tn?1303471125 I have a slight protrusion of right eye and swelling upper and lower around eyes, and of course the grittiness. I wasn't sure if it was assumed that i would go on my own or not. or if it is even necessary since i have not experienced any double vision?

Avatar f tn Absolutely agree! I have graves disease and have been fighting "thyroid eye" for the past 6 months. Even after steroid treatment and radiation have failed, I am still hesitant and only slightly considering orbital decompression. There are cosmetic eye surgeries you could consider. But really consider all pros and cons before any surgery.
Avatar f tn ophthalmopathy, your eyeball bulges out past its protective orbit (exophthalmos). This occurs as tissue and muscles behind your eyes, swell and cause the eyeball to move forward. Because your eye is so far forward, the front surface of your eye can become dry. Cigarette smokers with Graves' disease are more likely to have eye problems.
Avatar f tn Sorry...forgot to mention...If your TSI lab test came back as NEGATIVE, you do not have Graves Disease and it may just be Hyperthyroidism.
