Avatar f tn I was given Lexapro to counteract the dosages of Xanax I take for my Graves disease. I tried it for 2 weeks and gained about 12 pounds, I stopped it and the weight left. Go to your Doc and get another Anti-depressant, this has happened to a lot of people and is a known side effect.
Avatar f tn Make sure they test for Free T3 and Free T4, not Total T3 and Total T4. Most serum T3 and T4 is bound to protein and thus not biologically active. Only the small portion of thyroid hormone that is free of protein is biologically active. So, you need to know Free T3 and Free T4.
Avatar f tn Diagnosed today with Graves disease. I'm a 39 yr old female. Worried about weight gain on Methimazole. Can I take appetite suppressants with this medication?
Avatar f tn now I am being put on 5 mg of methimazole, and I’m reading that this will slow my metabolism and cause weight GAIN! I am so bummed and frustrated. Can I ever shed this weight? I had lost 50 lbs 5 years ago, and I am depressed after putting on so much. Any advice??
Avatar f tn Everyone is different when it comes to medications and their thyroid disease-though weight loss is more common of Graves' disease, some people gain, just like some people lose weight being hypo. I was on 5 of methimazole myself when diagnosed with Graves', and gained 15lbs. For me, it was much needed-I had lost nearly thirty pounds in just a few short months being un-medicated.
Avatar f tn I wasn’t anoerexic just built small and short so weighing 85 lbs then was normal. I was diagnosed with Hyperthyroidism in June 2008 and I also have Graves Disease, I now weigh 110 lbs, I gained that 15 lbs within 6 months, that sounds skinny to most people but I used to NOT gain weight no matter how much I ate before I had a thyroid problem so I now exercise and watch what I eat since I can easily gain weight.
Avatar f tn My mother was diagnosed in her early 40s with graves disease and her thyroid was removed, around the same time she was diagnosed with stage 3-4 colon cancer. I'm aware there are connections between autoimmune diseases and thyroid and intestinal diseases/conditions. As I'm getting older I'm noticing I'm following in the same physiological footsteps my mother did before she was diagnosed.

Avatar m tn i have hyperthyroid.. is there any bad impact of taking avacado for trying to gain weight?
Avatar m tn When the thyroid gets overworked though the opposite happens and you become underactive, very quick weight gain and extreme tiredness.
Avatar n tn What was the basis for the hyper diagnosis? Please post whatever thyroid test results and reference ranges you have so that members can provide the best response.
Avatar f tn Additional - I searched this forum for hyperthyroidism and weight gain and got many results. Seems it does happen to a few of us though we are the minority.
Avatar f tn I was recently diagnosed with Graves Disease which is an autoimmune disease associated with ur thyroid. I have noticed that I'm needing more pain meds than normal to relieve my pain. My question is, does this disease affect the relief I am supposed 2 be receiving from my normal dose? Basically, does my pain meds need to be increased or does my thyroid affect the digestion process of the meds?
Avatar n tn I am only addressing the thyroid levels. Which states you are hyperthyroid and T-3 toxicosis which is seen in Graves' disease. This could be the reason for your fatigue and possibly weight gain. Not all hypers lose weight. The solution for thyroid is to get treatment for the hyper side of the disease. Either RAI or ATDs. Surgery is an option with growing, hyperfunctioning nodule or thyroid cancer, which would entail more test to verify.
Avatar n tn MY TSH IS LOW BUT MY T3 AND T4 ARE NORMAL MY TPO WAS OVER 24,000 MY TPI WAS ELEVATED AND MY SCAN SHOWED NODULES AND GRAVES BUT AGAIN I DO NOT HAVE ANY SYMPTOMS BUT WEIGHT WHICH RIGHT NOW I AM OK WITH AS MY WEIGHT CURRENTLY IS 145. I HAVE THE MEDICATION TAPAZOLE 5MG BUT MY ENDO TOLD ME TO JUST TAKE 1/2 A PILL EVERY OTHER DAY. I WAS JUST HOPING THAT MAYBE IT WOULD HELP LOSE THE COUPLE OF POUNDS I HAVE GAINED.
Avatar f tn What result is that? Is it a TSH level? A TSH of 0.28 is quite low... TSH is counter-intuitive; when it's high, thyroid hormone levels are, typically, too low and when it's low, thyroid hormone levels are, typically, too high... the latter is the case with Graves Disease: low TSH/high thyroid hormones. Is that the only test you've had done? What about Free T4 and Free T3? It's very rare to gain weight with Graves Disease, though not impossible.
5820022 tn?1378512355 Hello all, I'm going to attempt to describe my situation in full and I would greatly appreciate any advice or encouragement from fellow hyperthyroidic patients or doctors who treat them. Three months ago I went to my general practitioner in hopes of finding a treatment for my severe migraines. The nurse noticed that my pulse was extremely high at resting (155). This led to blood tests an more visits, resulting in a diagnosis of Graves' disease induced hyperthyroidism.
Avatar n tn I just want to make sure that if I maintain my activity and eating healthy, will that prevent weight gain. I saw hair loss, rashes, and hoarse voices can also result from this drug. How common are these. I am 31 and have always been healthy. This year was very stressful because I am getting an MBA and work full time so I don't know if the stress caused this or if it something that I already had? Any advice with this medication would greatly be appreciated.
