Avatar n tn Usually, surgery is the preferable option if someone has Graves thyroid disease (because RAI can sometimes make eye disease worse if already present). Graves Eye Disease is caused by different antibodies than the thyroid disease. They are related, but having one doesn't necessarily mean you'll get the other.
Avatar n tn I had a multi nodule goiter. Before surgery I was on 50 mcg Levi. I was so hyper I could almost walk across ceilings. Can you have Graves' disease after thyroidectomy. Having horrible itchy skin, ear eczema and hyperpigmentation all over my skin. Damn Drs only want to run tsh. I tremor all the time and my legs are so weak. They take my Levi up and my tah goes low. Please help. Don't know where to turn. Graves on my family but no doctor will listen.
Avatar n tn Hi, I've been treated for the last 4 years for Graves Disease with block and replace here in the Netherlands. Now, in preparing for a thyroidectomy, I had a scan which revealed thyroiditis. As far as I can see, this is not a symptom of Graves Disease. Without medication I am still hyper. Any ideas what this could be?
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with Graves Disease in Oct. 2009. I have been on varying amounts of Methimazole with my T3 and T4 levels in the normal range, but my TSH is .005 and hasn't changed in many months. My doctor wants to do RAI. I have been resisting. Why did you do both RAI and thyroidectomy?
Avatar f tn I also have Graves disease and from my understanding you are never "cured", but, once your thyroid is either dead or you have it removed you should no longer be suffering from the symptoms. Except the protruding eyes, that is the only symptom that they can't reverse. That you are going to have to live with for the rest of your life. That's why it's so important to get treated before that happens. I would say that your tiredness is from being perimenopausal.
Avatar n tn If you don't mind. I see you posts starts out as Graves Disease and you are looking for a surgeon? While I would have to do some checking around on this can you post the reason for the removal? - Is it for Graves disease?
Avatar n tn My 4 yr old son was diagnosed with Graves' disease in Sep 07. PTU and Atenolol were started immediately. He has responded to both medications (Atenolol was discontinued in Dec 07). However, TSH levels are still below normal level. T3/T4 have been within normal range since Jan 08 but are fluctuating with dosage changes. My son complains of joint, shin and back pain periodically. He has excessive height compared to kids his age (4 inches above 100th percentile for his age).
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with Graves' Disease in 2001 and my symptoms were incredibe fatigue and pain all over that felt like my muscles and bones were being pulled apart. When put on the methimazole, the aches and fatigue stopped immediately. After 5 years, however of being on the methimazole, still could not control TSH for correct levels and has thyroid removed.
Avatar n tn I have had steroids for my eyes and and tapazole nothing has worked. I have toxic nodoles along with Graves disease. I have changed my diet and tried different things what do you suggest. I'm not sleeping, I have gained most of my weight back with increased heart beat. What can I do.
Avatar f tn You need a second opinion. Based on what you describe, you have autoimmune thyroid disease with markers for Graves' (TSI) and the other common antibodies (TPO and Tg) that are usually associated with hashimoto's. Graves' and Hashi should be considered as entities on two ends of a spectrum, not two completely different diseases. This may cause fluctuating thyroid function to hypo and hyper and back but this is not common.
Avatar n tn Hi, I have Graves and Graves ophthalmology. I’ve been on methiizole for 2 years and recently dose increased 10mg and I became hypo, developed large goiter quickly that is pushing my esophagus among other things. 877337 tn?1249844450 Graves' disease may present clinically with one of the following characteristic signs: * exophthalmos (protuberance of one or both eyes) * a non-pitting edema (pretibial myxedema), with thickening of the skin usually found on the lower extremities * fatigue, weight loss with increased appetite, and other symptoms of hyperthyroidism * rapid heart beats * muscular weakness The two signs that are truly 'diagnostic' of Graves' disease (i.e.
Avatar n tn My daughter had a total thyroidectomy for Graves Disease when she was 14. She is now 22 years old and she takes 120 mg of Armour Thyroid. I am concerned with her lab work and what an opinion would be if she is getting too much or not enough Armour Thyroid. Her doctor seems to think it is ok. Her most recent lab work shows: Free T3 4.3 TSH 0.
Avatar f tn Anyway I have Severe Graves Thyroid Eye Disease Hyper ahd hypothyrpidism and lastly Thyrotoxic Myopathy. I have always been in relatively good health although I never ate or slept and was constantly on the go. As an Event manager I always had something to plan so I went at it 500000 miles an hour. Now though I am using a walking stick, my hair has fallen out, I have lost my face to TED and I feel faint lethargic and my legs buzz all night long.
Avatar f tn I really thought I was losing my mind, I have had this for about 4 yrs and just now was diagnosed with Graves disease. My Dr put me on Methimazole and after 3 weeks had a severe reaction and was covered head to toe with a horrible insanely itchy rash. Mr Endo told me I have a couple options radio active iodine or somthing else which he did not tell me what. My question is how has the radio active iodine worked for others?
Avatar n tn I am a 33 yr old female who was diagnosed with Graves disease almost 2 yrs ago. At this point it is pretty much out of control and I am having problems getting into see an Endo. My TSH is .009, T3 1329 and T4 3.94. I have had a numerous amount of symptoms develop over the last few months the one that concerns me the most is a constant feeling of someone chocking me. Although my levels are extremely high I have still managed to gain 25lbs over the past year and a half.
Avatar f tn I do not have Graves but I did have RAI following my thyroidectomy for cancer and I was given prednisone to help with inflamation in my salivary glands and gums. Only, I wasn't very smart and I didn't take it after the 2nd day because it made me feel even worse than I already did. I should have taken it though, I ended up having issues that could have been prevented. Don't know if this helps but I thought I'd throw it out there.
Avatar n tn Hi - I have Graves Disease dxd Dec 2007, and I have decided to have Surgery instead of RAI. I am meeting with the surgeon tomorrow, and I just wondered if you have any suggestions of what are the right questions to be asking at this consultation?
474314 tn?1219345522 Prayers for you. I had my TT done almost 14 yrs ago. All my graves symptoms went away, and I did NOT gain any weight. It will take a while to get your dosage right afterwards, but like i said, all the symptoms went away. You can not even see my scare from it. Just make sure you faithfully take your medication..... Good luck....

Avatar f tn ve been on carbimozole for hyperthyroidism and Graves Disease for about 6 years now and last summer my thyroid became underactive, making me very depressed, lathargic and I put on a lot of weight in very short period of time even though I was exercising more. I'm scared that the same will happen after surgery, and feel like I won't be able to cope if it happens again. I suffer from BDD and the idea of putting on weight is a real issue for me.
Avatar f tn I had a total thyroidectomy and the labs came back and we thought it was Graves but the labs said something like DeQuaine's but I google and cannot find it. I was also kind of out of it when my surgeon told me this. I had to stay in the hospital longer due to my calcium levels and forgot to ask him again and write it down. Does that ring a bell?
Avatar n tn Yes, TT stands for total thyroidectomy...surgical removal of the entire thyroid gland. Do you know whay you have nodules? Do you have Hashimoto's thyroiditis or Graves' disease. Depending on the cause of the nodules, iodine supplements can make the condition worse. Were you advised by your doctor to take this? Are you taking any thyroid meds?
