Graves disease and the flu shot

Common Questions and Answers about Graves disease and the flu shot

graves-disease

Avatar f tn Elaine Moore tends to believe that immunotherapy (allergy shots) makes Graves Disease worse, and can possibly bring on the Graves Eye Disease. She recommends that allergies be treated with the cortisone-type nose sprays and antihistimines instead, because of the nature of an autoimmune disease. I was about to start shots, but now I am reconsidering. Does anyone have information on this subject? Thanks!
Avatar n tn Antibodies are very specific to the thing they attack (think of the antibodies made by your body after a flu shot - every year, the strain of flu expected is different, so every year, the flu shot is made of different viruses so your body will make the right antibodies to fight of the flu if you are exposed). You will still have the Graves antibodies in your body, but they won't have anything left to attack.
1211076 tn?1303519440 Some years I would get it, others I would not get the shot. I have never heard of the flu shot attacking the antibodies. I for the last couple of years do not get the flu shot, but only because I am too lazy to go get it done... I think everyone reacts different to things, so what happens to one by getting it will not happen to the other. It all comes down to, Do YOU want to get it...
Avatar m tn Question is has abdominal cramps while running been reported by athletes with disease along with muscle and joint pain. Also what is the reported time span of the thyrotoxic phase of the disease.
147426 tn?1317265632 but, after the newness, we often sit with those bad symptoms for quite a while before they begin to improve. My thought is that this later time is the best for the flu shot and it would be the time after the 'roids are pretty much out of our systems (more than 2 weeks).
Avatar f tn As long as you get the shot vs the nose spray you'll be fine. My ob wants me to get the flu shot asap.
Avatar n tn Is it ok to get the flu shot when on Humira for my Crohns disease. Also what about the H1N1 shot when that comes out can I take that. I also have FSHD muscular dystohy.
Avatar f tn My doctor made me get the flu and tetanus shot. My insurance covers basically everything but my goodness I was prepared ahaha. It should be fine, just ask.
Avatar f tn but for me having an autoimmune disease and being pregnant, hes encouraged me to get it. I got the flu last pregnancy in 2012 and I kept having false labor, it was terrible. Your injecting the dead virus.. its a personal preference on getting it.
Avatar f tn Is the flu shot necessary while pregnant? I haven't gotten a flu shot in about 10 years ... I'm 28 and am about 9 1/2 weeks.... doc is saying get it but I don't think I want to! What do you think?
1253246 tn?1332073310 I was told to get the flu shot on treatment and never did but then I didn't leave the house much. Either get the shot or don't, only you can make that decision. Live virus, I don't think so.
Avatar f tn I recommend it. Our immune systems are so weak while pregnant and there's not much we can safely take if we do catch the flu. I got the flu shot last month and had no complications. I've also gotten the flu shot the last 3 years with no problems. I've never had the flu before.
Avatar f tn I am posting not to brag or gloat but to show many that there IS light at the end of the tunnel and that anyone suffering from Graves Disease and Hyperthyroidism can get back on the right road. The pic of me in pink was 2 weeks before RAI. The pic of me in yellow was taken Easter Sunday. Yes I have more weight on me but I sure as he// look and feel 100% better. This is to give hope to all those who feel there is none. Believe me, there is.
10175413 tn?1427170251 The CDC recommends annual flu shots for everyone over the age of 6 months, unless you have had a severe allergic reaction to a prior flu shot. The formulation of the flu shot changes every year to protect people from current strains.
Avatar m tn I was recently diagnosed with Graves disease but my TSI levels seem to be in the normal range. I don't show any physical signs of graves but my TSH and anti-thyroglobulin are out of whack. I started taking 10 mg of methimazole right around the beginning of April 2011 which seem to have brought my TSH level back to normal. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Here is my blood work history: 11/11/2010 ======== TSH - 1.49 T4 - 9.0 T3 Uptake - 34.0 Free T4 - 1.35 Free T4 Index - 3.
Avatar f tn s important not only for MSers, but for anyone and especially those with chronic disease to prevent the flu, and more importantly the complications that come with the flu that kill so many each year. Hope you see improvement with your ON.
1078707 tn?1255964151 But, I also have Lyme Disease. For the past 3 years, including this year, I have taken the regular flu shot. I am extremely confused about what to do with this new vaccine for swine flu/h1n1 because everything I have found via the web and my Lyme Disease Support Group meetings all say NOT to take either. But, I have to take the yearly one, right? I don't know what to do, does anyone have any suggestions?
Avatar f tn t get the flu shot, you will probably get the flu, this year or next. It is a contagious illness, and pretty unpleasant. Besides, you could be a party to spreading it around if you have been exposed. Why would you not get it?
Avatar f tn 5 Things You Must Know Before Getting the Flu Shot Flu season is peaking over the next several months, and this year, the CDC is urging everyone over the age of 6 months to get a flu shot. That means you! The flu causes approximately 5 million illnesses each year, and you don't want to be one of the victims. It's miserable!
212161 tn?1599427282 FYI, this years flu shot contains the H1N1/swine flu from 2009. I have notinet a few other posts regarding this years flu shot and reactions...... (article below) This year the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) gives clear guidelines that everyone aged 6 months and older should get the influenza vaccine. This month the American Academy of Pediatric recommends that all healthcare providers should be required to get the influenza vaccine.
Avatar n tn Assuming that you are not taking any thyroid medication, the high levels of FT4 and FT3 make me wonder about the possibility of also having Graves Disease. Having both is unusual, but if you search the Forum archives, you will see patients who have posted that have had both. Here is one example. http://www.medhelp.org/posts/Thyroid-Disorders/Hasimotos-or-Graves/show/1265756 To confirm Graves disease you should have the Thyroid-Stimulating Immunoglobulins (TSI) test.
1428646 tn?1330978063 graves disease will attack and organ. the first time I had graves disease it was attacking my heart making my heart beat faster.
