Avatar f tn The birth control pill and several antibiotics can give a false positive ANA, keep checking it out, it may be a false positive. Google false-positive ANA and you can read what other meds do it.
Avatar n tn 40 can be a negative result or a mild positive result. A positive ANA test result may suggest an autoimmune disease but further testing is required. From reading your current question, i see you have issues with your thyroid. Autoimmune thyroid disease (either Graves' disease or Hashimoto's thyroiditis) may show up with a positive or negative ANA titer. One study on Hashimoto's thyroiditis found 47% were ANA positive. Of them, 60% showed a titer of 1:40.
Avatar m tn 1. An allergic reaction to radioactive iodine treatment includes shortness of breat, chills/rigors, fever, rash/hives. 2. Hyperthyroidism symptoms include elevated heart rate, anxiety and not sleeping well. 3. Samples under 1:40 are considered negative for ANA antibodies. Depending on what medical website you read, 1:40 can be a negative result or a mild positive result. A positive ANA test result may suggest an autoimmune disease but further testing is required.
Avatar n tn 7 of those children had Graves disease. 66 children had a positive ANA; 4 with Graves disease. Unfortunately the study does not list an ANA pattern for these 4 children. 20 of 93 children (21%) had another autoimmune disease. 3 of the 7 children (43%) with Graves disease had another autoimmune disease. "The ANA pattern was homogeneous in 61/66 (92.4%), coarse/fine speckled in 4/66 (6%), and nucleolar in 2/66 (3%).
Avatar f tn Thyroid in beginning of thyroid disease. Positive elevated thyroid antibodies. Fatty liver. All other tests within normal limits. Is this an autoimmune disease maybe?
Avatar f tn Is it possible for Graves to turn into Hashimoto's disease? I tested positive for TPO 562 & positive for ANA a few weeks ago. All thyroid levels are within normal range at this time except for the TPO, I am extremely tired, muscle aches and pains, rash all over body (it comes and goes) unable to focus, chronic infections, low grade fever daily. I was diagnosed with Graves in 2007 but, in remission for the last couple of years.
1133743 tn?1266438763 Either find a new Dr who will listen to you, or ask this rheumatologist to run antibody tests for Graves Disease. That is what I would do. Don't give up and push for what you want.
Avatar m tn I want to have more children but I am scared that the pregnancy will trigger the disease. Has anyone had a positive ANA and elevated RNP and it not turn into something later on... or do you have any advice or information for me? thank you so much!
Avatar m tn It is much ore like what our bodies make. Did you have Graves disease is an autoimmune disease that affects your thyroid as we know. Do you have a positive ANA now that you have had the radiation?
Avatar f tn He did more blood work and saw my IgG levels were high, my white blood count was high and I tested positive for ANA. I was then sent to a dermatologist who did a biopsy and more blood work. The biopsy showed Urticaria Vasculities and blood showed my SPEP levels were off and he suggested a hemotologist...I am at loss for words and at the end of the rope.
719919 tn?1269628056 I don't see much point in retesting your ANA. ANA can be found in Lupus, yes, but it can also be found in thyroid conditions and in RA. You have RA. You have Grave's. Why go looking for Lupus? You test positive for TSI, which is found in Grave's disease. You aparently also test positive for TPOab, which can be found in small titers in RA, and can be found in large or small titers in Hashimoto's or Grave's Disease.
2644165 tn?1387244348 Graves antibodies caused my two month hashitoxicosis flare up, thyroid eye disease, and pretibal myxedema. My lymph nodes were also swollen when I was in hashitoxicosis. At the time my labs showed hypothyroidism while being very hyperthyroid but my thyroglobulin serum was high due to hyperthyroidism. My ANA is listed as negative. The sensitivity of ANA with thyroid disease 46% for Hashimoto's thyroiditis and 50% for Graves' disease.
678817 tn?1327624650 I am hoping she will be more open-minded about the testing. I think, if the ANA comes back positive (and not that I am hoping to have an autoimmune disease, but I sure would like confirmation I am not crazy), that will put me in a better position to be asking for an endo referral. I don't see how I can keep working with a physician who gives no credence to my symptoms, tells me I am just getting older, refuses to see what is staring her in the face. There is no trust left.
Avatar f tn Over the past year, after the birth of my second son, I have dealth with a relapse of Graves disease (which is now in remission) and a diagnosis of Celiac disease (ttg positive twice (33 - 37), biopsy neg - Gastro. still recommended gluten free diet which I now follow). I am suffering from extreme fatigue, right shoulder pain arm weakness, numbness, fingers feel swollen-tight (no noticable scarring etc) brain fogginess, dry eyes, right leg pain weakness....
Avatar n tn I was treated with radioactive iodine for Graves' Disease in 1993. Over the years, my levels of thyroid replacement hormone have fluctuated. Since early this year, I have had problems with my throat...feeling constricted and uncomfortable. Now I have received the results of a test for RA(possibly triggered by a severe hand injury requiring surgery) which thankfully came back negative. However, an ANA test result came back positive.
Avatar n tn Many people with MS have had low positive ANA tests (ranging from normal to 1:160). I was first thought to have lupus because of a low positive ANA and symptoms. This has been ruled out. I do have another autoimmune disease thyroid disease, though. With the other symptoms you're having it's possible you could have both another autoimmune disease and MS.
Avatar m tn You have a history of autoimmune thyroid disease, initially presenting with Graves' disease and now normal thyroid function. The TPO antibody is a reflection of autoimmune thyroid disease. The nodule in this case may be an area of more pronounced inflammation in this setting however there is a slight increased risk of thyroid cancer with positive thyroid antibodies and biopsy may be indicated.
Avatar m tn 40 and speckled . Had an Mir of neck and showed I too have developed arthritis I have not gone for an RA test or lupus yet.
Avatar f tn There are a number of clinical trials published in medical journals that shows selenium can lower thyroid peroxidase antibodies (TPOAb). Not everyone will see results but i have personally seen results eating brazil nuts (highest natural source of selenium). Studies show selenium may slow down the progression of Hashimoto's thyroiditis. The following info is from a book "The Everything Guide To Thyroid Disease" by Theodore C. Friedman, MD, PhD and Winnie Yu Scherer.
1318483 tn?1318347182 When I went to see a neuro-ophthalmologist, on top of the many eye tests he did, he also has me get a blood test. I just got a call from them telling me I had a positive ANA test. I had them fax the results to me and this is what it says: Autoimmune Serology. In range Out of range. Units. Reference range ANA. 1:640 H. <1:80 ANA pattern is speckled. Centromere. Negative.
