Avatar f tn My mother was diagnosed in her early 40s with graves disease and her thyroid was removed, around the same time she was diagnosed with stage 3-4 colon cancer. I'm aware there are connections between autoimmune diseases and thyroid and intestinal diseases/conditions. As I'm getting older I'm noticing I'm following in the same physiological footsteps my mother did before she was diagnosed.
Avatar n tn I was Diagnosed and Treated with radioactive Iodine for Graves Disease in the Fall of last year. Since then I have been battling hair loss, weight gain, muscle cramps and extreme tiredness. I recently in May went on the synthroid but haven't had much change except for the muscle cramps have reduced. My question is though, how does taking synthroid effect your periods.
Avatar f tn Have you been tested for thyroid antibodies to make sure you do, in fact, have Graves disease and are not simply in a hyper phase of Hashimoto's? Both Graves and Hashimoto's are autoimmune. While Graves is always connected with hyperthyroidism, Hashimoto's is most often connected with hypothyroidism, however it's not uncommon for one to have periods of hyperthyroidism in the beginning stages. You should ask for thyroid antibody tests.
Avatar f tn you said you have hypothyroidism, but you have Graves Disease... Graves Disease is always associated with hyperthyroidism, not hypo. Have you had a thyroidectomy, RAI or are you taking anti-thyroid medication that makes you hypo? If you're hypo (underactive thyroid) are you taking replacement thyroid medication? If so, what medication are you taking and what dosage? For how long have you been taking it?
Avatar n tn Has your doctor told you, you have Graves Disease? Yes, your TSH is extremely low and your FT4 is extremely high, indicating that you are hyper, but your antibody tests indicate Hashimoto's. TSI is the definitive test for Graves Disease and I don't see that listed. Have you been put on antithyroid med?
Avatar n tn Can you have graves disease so bad that it would seem like bipolar and I thought Graves disease was an overactive thyroid, so how can you be hypro?
Avatar f tn It should be pointed out that, especially in the US literature, the term ‘hashitoxicosis’ is sometimes used to describe an autoimmune thyroid disease overlap syndrome of Gravesand Hashimoto’s disease.2 In this article the term is strictly limited to the ‘leakage’ symptoms of active Hashimoto’s disease.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with Graves disease 11 years ago. My endo prescribed Methimazole, which I was allergic to, so he told me he didn't want to prescribe me anything else because sometimes the allergy kills the thyroid. It apparently did, because all of a sudden I was hypo and I had to go on synthroid. Since then, I lost my health insurance and got handled by my PCP instead of the endo (cheaper).
Avatar f tn t no what she ment by this, but she said if they come back the same then I will start medication, I have been so worried because the panic attacks are all the time and I never have periods is that a syptom also??? What are the symptoms of this an will meds make me start feeling better??
Avatar f tn I did both of the tests that you mentioned, twice - and both came back with 0 antibodies present. So they did the ultrasound and said that I had graves at the time. Now, a new doctor is saying that I don't have graves because the antibodies aren't present and to just wait it out because it's postpartum thyroiditis instead?
Avatar n tn Had some blood work done within these two weeks, followed by more bloodwork, was sent to a specialist and was told that I have Graves disease along with Hep C. Needless to say I am surprised and overwhelmed. In the past three days I have started on Tapazole, 5mg a day, and I am still getting hives this whole time, along with increased fatigue. In the past 6 years I have developed allergies (hives) from many antibiotics, where before the only allergies I used to experience were seasonal.
1428646 tn?1330978063 graves disease will attack and organ. the first time I had graves disease it was attacking my heart making my heart beat faster. I was on medication for about 2 years. then it went into remission now it is back. graves disease could attack any organ , graves disease is your immune system attacks your organs not virus or bacteria.
Avatar f tn Have you been diagnosed with Graves Disease or did you have a hyper phase of Hashimoto's? Graves Disease is always associated with hyperthyroidism and remains that way; Hashimoto's often starts out with hyperthyroidism that alternates with hypothyroidism or periods of normal, but, eventually, settles into permanent hypothyroidism that requires replacement thyroid medication... What medication did you take, what dosage and why did you stop taking it?
Avatar n tn My TSH is .01 and my T4 ia 1.8 in the normal range....I do not think I have Hashimoto's disease...though my doctor prescribed Methimazole 10 mg twice a day and I take Atenolol for palpitations, as I especially feel like a "racing" after I eat...I do have a goitor and nodules which I have to check...Any suggestions for someone with the same readings, please let me know. Thanks.
Avatar f tn There are antibody tests to determine Hashimoto's thyroiditis and Graves Disease For Hash's TPO and Tgab For Graves TPI Best Regards FTB4
Avatar f tn I keep all of my lab and other test reports, as well as visit summaries in a large notebook and they have become the running record of my disease and I can compare them, so I know when I feel the best or look back and see when things began to go awry. I've learned a lot about why I've felt the way I have over the past years, once I learned to read/interpret my labs!! Doctors actually kept me ill for years when I didn't have to be.
Avatar f tn What med are you taking? What are the actual T3/T4 levels and are they Free T3 and Free T4 or Total T3 and Total T4? Be sure to include reference ranges with any labs posted. Have you been tested for Graves Disease or Hashimoto's Thyroiditis? Both are autoimmune diseases that attack the thyroid. All Graves Disease is hyperthyroidism, but not all hyperthyroidism is Graves Disease.
Avatar f tn M PCP told me i had graves disease and referred me to an endo. The endo said that all of my symptoms "were in my head and nothing was wrong". A few years go by and I see my PCP again and asked how I have been treating my thyroid problems and I said "I don't have one". He showed me the consult report from the Endo confirming my PCP diagnosis. My question is this, What am I to do now? I have lost about 20 lbs. when i only weighed 110 2years ago and hair loss.
Avatar n tn At first my endocrinologist was reluctant to prescribe more than a token amount of levosynthroid, although I was becoming symptomatic with hypothyroid symptoms. She feared Graves disease returning. I see her every 6 weeks and get blood drawn, and she has gradually raised the synthroid every time so that I am up to 112 mg per day. Obviously, every time I get labs done, I am thyroid-deficient. The last TSH level was 9.5. 9.5 is high, but not super high. Nonetheless, I feel exhausted.
Avatar m tn The antibody test results you posted above, are both markers for Hashimoto's. While Hashimoto's is, typically, associated with hypothyroidism, early stages are often characterized by periods of hyperthyroidism swinging to hypo and even normal, before settling into permanent hypo. You need Thyroid Stimulating Immunoglobulin (TSI) to diagnose Graves Disease and you don't have that one. Graves is always associated with hyper. What symptoms do you have?
Avatar f tn You need a second opinion. Based on what you describe, you have autoimmune thyroid disease with markers for Graves' (TSI) and the other common antibodies (TPO and Tg) that are usually associated with hashimoto's. Graves' and Hashi should be considered as entities on two ends of a spectrum, not two completely different diseases. This may cause fluctuating thyroid function to hypo and hyper and back but this is not common.
Avatar n tn I have graves disease, but was in remission. Then I had cancer and chemotherapy. My TSH level is hyper again and my other tests normal. The doctors won't say if chemo can activate your graves disease. They do say that a physical or emotional change to my body can trigger it. My thoughts, Cancer and chemotherapy are big time physical and emotional changes.
