773755 tn?1328119777 I have Graves' and when I was hyper the skin on my face was amazingly clear and people would always comment on my complexion. When I went hypo, my skin was dull and I had no color in my face.
1354275 tn?1277123508 Graves and Hyperthyroidism is a very hard disease to control and its a lot easier to treat Graves with no thyroid. All the time you have a thyroid, the Graves antibodies attack the thyroid. The Neomercazole 'blocks' the over production of hormones and should be decreased/increased on labs ..FT3/FT4 , TSH. Your TSH will barely budge while you have a thyroid so its basically important to go by the Free T3 and Free T4 levels. What were yr last levels?
Avatar n tn Have you been tested for autoimmune thyroid diseases? You could have either Graves Disease, which is most often associated with hyperthyroidism, or you could have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, which is usually associated with hypothyroidism, but in early stages can be characterized by episodes of hyper.
Avatar f tn Hi im Nroor from Iraq I had previous hyperthyrodism since 2006 I treated it with neomercazole and propranolol and my TSH return to normal level so my doc. Said stop taking ur medications no need to it since 2008 I didnt take it and I have no symptoms of the disease and my period is so normal every 30 days. I had missed abortion in may 2012 un 7wks.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with Graves Disease in 1998 at 23 years old. Went on two different meds (neomercazole and I can't remember the other) and eventually it settled down. Regular check ups saw the TSH fall often so meds would be started again- and repeat. About 18 months ago I was sent to a different specialist who wanted to kill the thyroid with the radioactive iodine, but I didn't want to do that at the time.
1674106 tn?1403379490 Hello. I am a 28 y/o female, with Fibromyalgia, Migraines, Endometriosis, Hidradenitis Suppurativa and a few other odds and ends. But I was recently diagnosed with Graves' Disease by an Endo, after 3 years of unexplained tachycardia, heat sensitivity and dilated pupils. In the past I have been borderline hypothyroidism and I'm a curvy woman, so I never would've guessed I was HYPERthyroidism. My head is metaphorically spinning these days.
Avatar n tn not sure if your eye problems are due to GRAVES' OPHTHALMOLOGY [G.O.]. if they are, do not get RAI unless you are flat out of options - in my reading, r.a.i. is contraindicated for moderate to severe g.o. a google search of [graves'-ophthalmology rai exacerbation] shows a number of studies and writings. so continue with the endo or another endo and/ or the ophthalmologist to confirm or eliminate G.O. the 20mg carbimazole sounds alright. i found it good.
Avatar f tn Oh wow, I'm not really the person to ask as most of my research has gone into my own condition.. I was hyper thyroid because of an over-active nodule that was producing too much hormone which, I'm pretty sure, would not relate to children. I do know of transient thyroiditis which can have many causes (perhaps that's what your specialist believes it is) and, of course, Graves disease. I googled 'juvenille hyperthyroid' and there was an array of results.
Avatar f tn My normal weight prior to diagnosis was between 56-58kg. Upon diagnosis of graves disease, I was 65-66kg. In January-February, i was 63-64 and now early April i am on 59kg! I found this very confusing, any similar story out there? Thank you!
Avatar f tn I have Graves and also Hashimotos antibodies. My brother has Hashis and started out as hyper and very quickly went hypo. In the last week and a half or so I have been feeling a lot more energy, less foggy brain... still not fantastic, but at least improving. I still can't sleep at night and my heart is still going around 100 a lot of the time. Today I have been feeling very unwell. Completely lethargic [not too unusual for the last few months] and just generally icky.
Avatar f tn Start researching all you can on Graves disease and hyperhtyroidism and also remember that at some time down the track, you may need permanant treatment if the hyperthyroidism is too hard to control. Read my journals if you want...they may help you.
Avatar n tn or will i always have a degree of it with the graves disease? IS this what is causing my oral thrush? And how often do i need to get the cysts checked out? i guess with my background of MGUS i feel a little bit nervous about a malignancy (as the mgus can precede myeloma or lymphoma) I also had CIN 3 of the cervix 10 yrs ago and have had yrly pap smears since then (always a little abnormal). thanks a lot for giving me yr advice on this matter!
Avatar m tn Has anyone bothered to run antibody testing on you for Graves and Hashimoto's Autoimmune Thyroid Diseases?? If you have Graves, your thyroid problem will Not "disappear". As your antibody levels increase you can become even more symptomatic. Read up on these diseases. Then you can present your information to your doctors. If they are not willing to help you to get well, I would highly suggest finding new doctors.
Avatar m tn yes you are definitely hyper. Next is to find out if it's toxic nodules causing it, or if you have graves disease. Both can be pretty manageable as long as you are on meds, and or avoid certain triggers, stress being the main one. The majority of people will eventually go into remission, and some people just self treat with homeopathic/vit methods. Many do just fine, and you will often read the horror stories, b/c most ppl who do fine never seek out support forums.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with Graves in January 2012. Now, that I'm aware of the symptoms, I believe I've had Graves for about a year and a half prior to being diagnosed. I'd been back and forth to the ER and no one could tell me what was wrong. In May 2011, I was admitted to the ER because the entire left side of my face went numb, I had stroke like symptoms. I was in the ER throwing up for about 12 hrs and still, no one could tell me what was going on.
Avatar m tn Ask your Mothers Doc to test for Graves Disease by running a TSI blood test. Also while on anti-thyroid meds...your mother should have her levels tested every 2-3 weeks or she can ho higher in levels (hyper) or can go Hypo (low). Hyperthyroidism is usually caused by Graves Disease. Get this checked and also ask the Doc to test her levels again. This time ..ask him to do FREE T4, FREE T3 and not the normal T's as those tests are outdated.
Avatar m tn It sounds like you have Graves' disease and have had a significant fluctuation in thyroid levels on the anti-thyroid medication (neomercazole). The current levels suggested the dose may need to be decreased a little bit. Often the symptoms lag a few months behind a complete recovery. Please continue to work closely with your Dr. to keep things in the normal range. It is not uncommon to see patients have a relatively severe hypothyroidism due to excessive antithyroid drug treatment.
Avatar f tn 1H - Anti-Thyroid stimulating hormone receptor antibodies are present in the majority of patients with Graves disease and their continuing presence after treatment for hyperthyriodism suggests a relapse is likely. The results for 22/01/08; T4 - 40.5 TSH - 0.03 T3 - 17.2 I have been using for a week now 10mg Neomercazole tablets and my house doctor made it today 30mg until I can see a specialist for this, if you have any suggestions on this then it will be great.
Avatar n tn My doctors assure me that, in the event of developing hypothroid problemas after treatment, that thyroxin will stop me from experiencing weigh gain issues. I have taken Neomercazole on and off for 4 yrs and have generally lost weight or at least maintained my healthy body weight while my throid was normalised. I am worried that after treatment I will have tyhe opposite problem!
