graves-disease

Avatar m tn It should be pointed out that, especially in the US literature, the term ‘hashitoxicosis’ is sometimes used to describe an autoimmune thyroid disease overlap syndrome of Gravesand Hashimoto’s disease.2 In this article the term is strictly limited to the ‘leakage’ symptoms of active Hashimoto’s disease." *** I've had both Hashi's and Graves antibodies simultaneously but I had been diagnosed with Hashimoto's thyroiditis previously.
823964 tn?1238826899 Although I have been euthyroid for four years, I was treated for hyperthyroidism from 2000-2002 with atenolol, tapizole and PTU, and currently have clinical evidence of mild Graves eye disease in one eye, demonstrated by lid retraction, and slight limitation of upward and outward gaze. He feels that Graves eye disease can be devastating in this setting and may not improve following withdrawal of therapy and councils me to wait and see if my liver stabilizes and new treatments become available.
484482 tn?1319378880 Does anyone know if Hyperthyroidism or graves disease can affect your liver? If so what are the signs and symptoms and can it be treated? I have a family member who was diagnosed today...Any input is greatly appreciated...

Avatar f tn Yeah got a question does the thyroid (graves disease in particular) cause your liver to elevate and abnormalities in your blood? had a recent physical and those showed up on there!
Avatar f tn she gave 100mg of methymazole, after a month i started having this ugly muscle pain and in my blood results show problems with liver and kidneys and nobody listen to me , so i had to change specialist, then he run some test. When i went back to get my results he told me to get the radiation that it's my only option because i have severe hyperthyroidism.I went to get like a scan of my thyroid and a reading on my thyroid.
2899052 tn?1436831245 I'm recently diagnosed with hyperthyroidism with Graves' disease. The endocrinology doctor prescribed me Methimazole 10mg (3 tablets) in morning, that's 30mg. I also have to take Propranolol (3 times a day) every 8 hours to control my palpitation. I'm very concerned about take Methimazole because I heard it will give me liver problem and I'm very scared of taking radioactive because it can harm my eyes. Am I wrong? I need to know if they are they safe?
Avatar f tn I am a 25 y/o female diagnosed with hyperthyroidism at 16 and later with Graves Disease and Goiter. I have been on Tapazol along with Atenelol (for the Tachacardia) off and on for the past 9 years with no results. Every doc I see wants to discuss nothing but RAI or surgery. My husband and I have been trying to conceive for a few years with no success. I finally found out that I was pregnant the beginning of last year and made it to 4 months and suffered a miscarriage for no apparent reason.
514523 tn?1215832667 Hi anyone with graves and nodules? I was put on antithyroid meds and its a wait and see if the nodules are cancerous. Was wondering how bad are the side effects from the meds and does RAI give you cancer late if you do have nodules? I thought i had hot nodules but it turned out to be graves and is it hereditary?
Avatar n tn Graves Disease and elevated liver enzymes.
Avatar f tn Similarly, sarcoidosis of the thyroid gland may develop in response to an established thyroid disorder including Gravesdisease, nodular goiter, and thyroid cancer. Patients with Gravesdisease may also have concomitant conditions of sarcoidosis affecting the lungs. Patients with systemic sarcoidosis may also develop sarcoid lesions in various organs including the thyroid gland.
Avatar n tn I've been sick for about 1 year, and about 3 months ago was diagnosed w/ Graves' Disease. I've been closely monitored during the last 3 months of treatment (lots of blood tests), and I'm on 40mg Methimazole per day and a little Atenolol. I've developed a couple of hard swollen bumps behind my right ear (lymph nodes?), and I was wondering if lymph nodes swell w/ GD. I have no signs of ear, throat or any other infection. My scalp doesn't itch or have any sores.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with Graves Disease approximately 10 years ago and have been treating it and dealing with it fairly well. I have even gone off maintenance meds (methimozole) was on very low dosage, did not respond well after a long time. Recently was put on PTU and it has been suggested that I do Radioactive Iodine Therapy or Thyroid Surgery even though I am responding to PTU positively. I am on 150 mg a day and it is said that might be lowered to 100mg/day.
1494095 tn?1288784877 TYVM... The reason I'm concerned is they (my PAs) are telling me that my (severe) upper abdomen pain is "probably" related to the Grave's Disease, since they've checked and ruled out the liver, pancreas, ulcers, hernias, spleen, appendix, ovaries, kidneys, blatter, esaphaugus, and other gastric problems/complications, and cannot find any other possible answer... it seems to me as though they've "pawned it off" onto Grave's Disease. I will ask for a TSI.
Avatar n tn iam apatient who suffers graves disease. My question is : Although I am almost 4 months on Carbamizole treatment 60 mg + Taking inderal ( propanalol), but the levels of my T4 & T3 are still high and the levels of TSH is less than 0.01. what do you think , should i sstop the medication and think of the other allternatives like the radioactive iodine or surgical removal?
Avatar m tn I am looking for anyone who can shed some light on sucess using Natural treatment options for Hyperthyroidism? My wife has been up and down with Graves for the past 13yrs and it is back with a vengance. The endo want to do Iodine to remove her thyroid but we are skeptical. Thoughts????
Avatar f tn I forgot to add that my family dr dx me with Graves disease about 2 1/2 years ago and has me on PTU and propranolol. I now am dealing with a nutritionist to try and help me lose weight, part of her treatment was to get new labs done. She is still waiting on the Results of my TSH receptor antibody test. She thinks that I may have both graves and Hashimotos but isnt sure yet.
1428646 tn?1330978063 graves disease will attack and organ. the first time I had graves disease it was attacking my heart making my heart beat faster. I was on medication for about 2 years. then it went into remission now it is back. graves disease could attack any organ , graves disease is your immune system attacks your organs not virus or bacteria.
415642 tn?1207784582 Become an expert on the disease, or at least read everything you can about Graves and join message boards like this one. I know of one lady who has been on Tap 30 years!! She posts her liver profile and her numbers are normal.
Avatar f tn Wondering if theres anyone out there who has graves disease and pregnant? My levels are really high so theyrr giving me medication my first trimester. The chances of liver damange and birth defects scares me. Anyone else who can relate? Have advice?
Avatar n tn when I am hypothyroid, my muscles and joints ache; statins, like Lipitor, can and often cause liver enzymes to rise and also cause muscle aches; rotator cuff problem in the shoulder can cause pain needing physical therapy and sometimes surgery to cure. Then, to make matters more difficult, is the fun of getting older and having the body need more maintenance!
Avatar f tn You need a second opinion. Based on what you describe, you have autoimmune thyroid disease with markers for Graves' (TSI) and the other common antibodies (TPO and Tg) that are usually associated with hashimoto's. Graves' and Hashi should be considered as entities on two ends of a spectrum, not two completely different diseases. This may cause fluctuating thyroid function to hypo and hyper and back but this is not common.
Avatar f tn My mother was diagnosed in her early 40s with graves disease and her thyroid was removed, around the same time she was diagnosed with stage 3-4 colon cancer. I'm aware there are connections between autoimmune diseases and thyroid and intestinal diseases/conditions. As I'm getting older I'm noticing I'm following in the same physiological footsteps my mother did before she was diagnosed.
