558632 tn?1303471125 Does anyone else experience hives with graves disease. I have been on PTU for almost 3 years (may of 08) and just started to get hives off and on. help!!
Avatar n tn My daughter had the same reaction to Tapazole and has been on PTU for the past five years and is doing great on it. Good luck!
Avatar n tn Had some blood work done within these two weeks, followed by more bloodwork, was sent to a specialist and was told that I have Graves disease along with Hep C. Needless to say I am surprised and overwhelmed. In the past three days I have started on Tapazole, 5mg a day, and I am still getting hives this whole time, along with increased fatigue. In the past 6 years I have developed allergies (hives) from many antibiotics, where before the only allergies I used to experience were seasonal.
Avatar f tn I found out via an email that I have Graves' disease . 4 weeks ago I learned I had hyperthyroidism and was placed on methimazole 10mg2x a day. The email for the type came 3 weeks later and it was frightening to read about. I felt exhausted for months had stomach issues and lost 15 pounds in a month. 4 weeks into the medication I have a distended stomach with pains and horrible rashes. All that said I'm completely stressed about the eye issues that come with graves.
1102308 tn?1257806648 been on methimazole for three weeks and have had uncontrollable itching on my elbows and shins...sometimes hives develop...is there anything i can do to relieve this>? it is horrible at night and i havent been sleeping very much and the itching isnt helping...any suggestions>? is it just the methimazole or the graves or both? please help!!!

Avatar f tn I am diagonsed as graves too, and i am recently had hives, big rash on my head, legs , all over the body, I went to er and got benadryl , did not help, then dr prescribed me prednisone.
Avatar f tn hi i'm a 28 yr old woman and have suffered badly with symptoms from graves disease for 3yrs i've been on propylthiouracil for a year now as i had a severe allergic reaction to carbimazole! my symptoms include insomnia, severe fatigue, anxiety, bouts of depression, poor concentration, memory loss, bruising easily, dizziness, nausea and graves rage and weakened immune system (sick often). the problem is that i've recently had a blood test that read normal at 5.
Avatar f tn I came back to being allergic to nothing. We also did a blood tests for my thyroid, cancer, graves disease, and various other diseases. My thyroid levels came back normal but my auto antibodies came back high, over 400. The allergist said that its something we'll just have to monitor, watch my levels, and do 'a step by step' with drugs. Right now she has me on Allegra in the morning, Montelukast Sodium 10mg in the afternoon, and Zyrtec at night. It seems to keep the hives at bay.
Avatar f tn , which was supposedly related to having taken diclofenac (I’m allergic to all pain killers). I had hives and urticaria in my body and swelling of my lips and throat also. I was even hospitalized two days so they could get the swelling down with steroids.
Avatar f tn I ended up with two thyroid storms from graves/hyper, NOT fun at all. I did the RAI, but the graves/hyper was to far advanced for it to help me. I ended up having to have surgery anyway after the RAI. My heart rate was 140 sitting down, my eyes bulged out, I was down to 88lbs despite eating non-stop. Trust me get it treated before it gets worse. Thyroid storms are not any fun... But you can always get a second opinion from an endo if it puts your mind at ease.
Avatar f tn I still wake up to hives every morning. And do not get any new ones during the day. I want to solve the problem at the source. Can anyone help me?
Avatar m tn 1. An allergic reaction to radioactive iodine treatment includes shortness of breat, chills/rigors, fever, rash/hives. 2. Hyperthyroidism symptoms include elevated heart rate, anxiety and not sleeping well. 3. Samples under 1:40 are considered negative for ANA antibodies. Depending on what medical website you read, 1:40 can be a negative result or a mild positive result. A positive ANA test result may suggest an autoimmune disease but further testing is required.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with Graves disease 11 years ago. My endo prescribed Methimazole, which I was allergic to, so he told me he didn't want to prescribe me anything else because sometimes the allergy kills the thyroid. It apparently did, because all of a sudden I was hypo and I had to go on synthroid. Since then, I lost my health insurance and got handled by my PCP instead of the endo (cheaper).
Avatar f tn However, I am currently euthyroid and not taking any medication and I get hives every other week. I was told that the hives are just another symptom of the Graves and Hashi, as I am in autoimmune overload. I also bruise easily due to the diseases. I am curious if your hives and bruising is due to the meds or just thyroid disease.
653875 tn?1224530613 I recently had my first appt with my endo dr and he had told me that I have graves disease and he put me on PTU. I also take inderal. And i was just wondering if anyone can give me any insight other than looking up info on the internet. Or just anything that might help. I also have terribly itching, and burning skin. I heard this is a side effect but is there anything i can use so its not so sensitive? Any help regarding anything would really be appreciated!
Avatar f tn I suspect I have been suffering from hypothyroidism for a number of years. I am still experiencing symptoms with treatment and the hives come and go as they please. My DR sent me to an allergist who believes that the hives are a result of high TSH and I agree, but my latest labs came back 'normal'. DR did increase the Levothyroxine to 75mcg because she(thankfully) is treating me based on how I feel instead of the lab results.
Avatar f tn I was otherwise healthy 49 yr old going thru menopause, wanted testing for thyroid, finds out my antibodies are high, was sent to Endo who even though TSH was good put me on Synthroid, after 2 weeks major hives, stopped Synthroid hives come and go. MY endo doesn't belie ve its from high antibodies or synthroid been to 6 dr's, HELP!!!! Seen Derma, Allergist, 2 er dr's my primary, and Endo!!!! On non stop antihsitamines and Visatril and I dont take meds, hate this!
Avatar f tn I'm new to thyroid disease. I have an enlarged thyroid and blood work came back positive for an overactive thyroid. I have to wait until next week to have a thyroid uptake scan to find out more. Doctor says I have several symptoms of Graves Disease: losing weight, itchy skin, heat sensitivity, heart palpitations, insomnia, light mentstrual cycle, Raynauds (numbness and tingling), plus it feels like I have a lump in my throat with trouble swallowing.
Avatar m tn I’m 33 year old female with Graves disease I was told graves disease has caused my hyper active thyroid. What is Graves disease? Also, I’m taking meds for my thyroid but they don’t seem to work very often. I take two 25 mg of Atenolol a day and 2 50 mg Propylthiouracil twice a day and still don’t feel comfortable. Walking up stairs to my parents apt. makes me feel so exhausted that’s how bad it is. I feel like I'm going to die.
Avatar f tn What's the reference range for the Free T4 (FT4) and the TGab and TPOab? Ranges vary lab to lab and have to come from your own report. Do you, by any chance, have a Free T3 result? I'm guessing not, since you didn't post it, but I'm hoping so. Your symptoms certainly match those of hypothyroidism and we do know that many people get passed over, because their doctor only goes by reference ranges. Don't mean to beat around the bush, so I'll cut to the chase....
Avatar f tn Studies report that as many as 57.4% of patients with hives (urticaria) have the presence of thyroid antibodies. "In conditions of chronic urticaria, thyroid antibodies are not only indicators of chronic inflammation, but they appear to play a role in the disease process. In most cases, improvement of urticaria with thyroxine replacement hormone suggests that chronic thyroid inflammation may initiate a hypersensitivity reaction and an underlying thyroid hormone deficiency.
1833449 tn?1333849501 As of yet, my doctor has not seen the Thyroid Stimulating Immunoglobulin value. I am under the impression that the mere presence of Thyroid Stimulating Immunoglobulin (even if normal), along with Thyroglobulin Antibodies and Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies, means that I have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis and Graves' Disease or Hashitoxicosis, which would explain my symptoms of hyperthyroidism. Is that at all accurate?
Avatar f tn With both FT3 and FT4 as low as they are, it's no wonder you feel like you were run over by a truck; add a severe cold to the mix and you probably feel like it not only ran over you, but backed up and did it again. We have to back up a little bit, though; I just realized what you said in your first sentence: "i was diagnosed with graves disease and initially shown as hypo". Graves disease is associated with being hyper, not hypo. Please clarify that.
