Common Questions and Answers about Graves disease and anxiety

Avatar n tn Can you have graves disease so bad that it would seem like bipolar and I thought Graves disease was an overactive thyroid, so how can you be hypro?
Avatar f tn You need a second opinion. Based on what you describe, you have autoimmune thyroid disease with markers for Graves' (TSI) and the other common antibodies (TPO and Tg) that are usually associated with hashimoto's. Graves' and Hashi should be considered as entities on two ends of a spectrum, not two completely different diseases. This may cause fluctuating thyroid function to hypo and hyper and back but this is not common.
Avatar f tn With both FT3 and FT4 as low as they are, it's no wonder you feel like you were run over by a truck; add a severe cold to the mix and you probably feel like it not only ran over you, but backed up and did it again. We have to back up a little bit, though; I just realized what you said in your first sentence: "i was diagnosed with graves disease and initially shown as hypo". Graves disease is associated with being hyper, not hypo. Please clarify that.

Avatar f tn hi i'm a 28 yr old woman and have suffered badly with symptoms from graves disease for 3yrs i've been on propylthiouracil for a year now as i had a severe allergic reaction to carbimazole! my symptoms include insomnia, severe fatigue, anxiety, bouts of depression, poor concentration, memory loss, bruising easily, dizziness, nausea and graves rage and weakened immune system (sick often). the problem is that i've recently had a blood test that read normal at 5.
Avatar n tn Conventional treatment options for Graves' disease include: * Anti-thyroid medication: In the US: - Methimazole [brand name Tapazole] - Propylthiouracil [PTU] Approximately 30% with Graves' disease will have a remission after prolonged treatment with anti-thyroid drugs.
Avatar n tn The antibodies that cause Graves Eye Disease (or thyroid eye disease) are totally different from the antibodies that cause either Graves Disease (thyroid) or Hashimotos. Your thyroid levels won't have an impact on your eyes. In fact, some people have the eye problems without ever having thyroid problems. That being said, if you have one of the autoimmune thyroid diseases (Hashis or Graves), you could also have thyroid eye disease.

Avatar f tn I am a 25 y/o female diagnosed with hyperthyroidism at 16 and later with Graves Disease and Goiter. I have been on Tapazol along with Atenelol (for the Tachacardia) off and on for the past 9 years with no results. Every doc I see wants to discuss nothing but RAI or surgery. My husband and I have been trying to conceive for a few years with no success. I finally found out that I was pregnant the beginning of last year and made it to 4 months and suffered a miscarriage for no apparent reason.
Avatar m tn It should be pointed out that, especially in the US literature, the term ‘hashitoxicosis’ is sometimes used to describe an autoimmune thyroid disease overlap syndrome of Gravesand Hashimoto’s disease.2 In this article the term is strictly limited to the ‘leakage’ symptoms of active Hashimoto’s disease." - Touch Endocrinology - Hashitoxicosis – Three Cases and a Review of the Literature There are many comments on this link which you might be interested in reading. https://www.medhelp.
1428646 tn?1330978063 graves disease will attack and organ. the first time I had graves disease it was attacking my heart making my heart beat faster. 1354275 tn?1277123508 I have Graves Disease and was recently reduced from 20mg a day of Neo-mercazole to 5mg. I was told to stop taking it for 2-days and to start back on 5mg a day. Apparently my blood test results were just below normal. Is this unusually low for a dosage. The reason I ask is because I'm having heart palpitations, anxiety, tremors and I'm feeling weak and exhausted all over again. I was feeling great on the 20mg and now I feel terrible.

Avatar n tn m not sure how long I have had this illness, I have complained about these symptoms for many years and was diagnosed with anxiety, depression and vitamin d deficiency among other things. It wasn't until I recently changed Dr's that I was checked for thyroid. Please don't give up, I pray you soon find the answers to sickness.
Avatar n tn The hyperthyroid speeds up your whole body metabolism, and gives you the symtpom of anxiety. It is not the anxiety that is caused by the mind, which comes from having too many fears and unsolved problems in your mind that are not being addressed promply and properly enough. You may have both, and that will have to be sorted out as you are treated for the hyperthyroidism.
Avatar f tn My mother was diagnosed in her early 40s with graves disease and her thyroid was removed, around the same time she was diagnosed with stage 3-4 colon cancer. I'm aware there are connections between autoimmune diseases and thyroid and intestinal diseases/conditions. As I'm getting older I'm noticing I'm following in the same physiological footsteps my mother did before she was diagnosed.
Avatar n tn I have graves disease, but was in remission. Then I had cancer and chemotherapy. My TSH level is hyper again and my other tests normal. The doctors won't say if chemo can activate your graves disease. They do say that a physical or emotional change to my body can trigger it. My thoughts, Cancer and chemotherapy are big time physical and emotional changes.
