I switched from Paxil to prozac because of weight gain - been on th eprozac for one week and depression/anxiety symptoms are back in full force. I want to go back to Paxil - do I have to wait while the prozac gets out of my system, or can I start today? Do I need to taper off the prozac (20mg) if I've only been on it a week?
Yes, I took prozac for a while and I looked like I swallowed a wheelie bin,I put the weight on,but that all changed when the doc put me on valium to help with my anxiety.It worked well and helped me sleep with no weight gain.Prozac also cause a huge drop in sexual desire/performance.
I am now terrified coming off them will make me gain weight, and are there any withdrawal symptoms, as i feel numb, sleepy and lack enthusiasm towards life. I am 5ft 2" and am having a bad patch my weight is 28kg i am 43 yrs old. I this a bad weight to be. I am trying to increase my diet slowly. I DO NOT binge or make myself sick.
ll have to go through getting off Paxil after such a long period of use. Prozac is said to not have the weight gain problem, but if your problem is anxiety, Prozac probably won't be as good. No way of knowing, but that's generally true. Lexapro also is known for fewer side effects, but it has its effects and it might not work for you and it too can cause weight gain. The question is, do you still need the Paxil after 10 years?
Been on prozac since March dr messed with dose till finally by late June i went to 50 mg...im also on wellbutrin,well weight gain and other problems dr said to cut back on prozac 10 mg a week,been doing that im down to 30 mg but i have bad depression like when i first began prozac,i was added a estrogen patch this past friday,i have no energy and im tired all the time..
Anyone ever taken geodon with serequel?( rapid weight gain Being wean off geodon from 80 twice a day now 40 twice a day. If I stop taking geodon will I be able to lose weight? Do serequel cause weight gain? (200 at bed time) It sure helps me sleep.Dr will replace geodon with Lamictal and tompamax. Thanks for any feed back.
Effexor, Prozac, Lexapro, etc. Often the gain was not instant, like with the older generation of meds. Took a year for one to put 50 lbs on me in a few months.
I also have been on Wellbutrin. It didn't help with depression, and increased anxiety to point where I had painful muscle spasms.
At 74, and after anal cancer treatment, the really awful side effect is non stop diarrhea, which almost landed me in the hospital in one case.
I have been on both citalopram and prozac but citalopram was longterm weight gain, dry mouth and headaches and prozac major short term weight gain. Came of prozac for that reason after only a few months and wonder if it would've settled with time, or go back to the one i was on for 12 years but had some side effects including weight gain.
Doc says my last option is mirtazapine but it is also an appetite stimulator.
I have recently switched from paxil to prozac because of weight gain my doc told me to just stop taking the paxil and take 1\2 pill of the prozac for 6 days then take to full dose after 6 days everything was going go until the 5 day of taking the prozac now i am have anxiety attacks and i just feel so out of it i was just wondering if it was just withdrawls from the paxil or has the prozac even had time to kick in yet just tired of feeling so down and out.
By the way, Paxil is notorious for weight gain -- I gained a lot of weight on it. What you need is a good psychiatrist, as it sounds like you're trying to do this with a general practitioner. This isn't universally true, but generally general docs know virtually nothing about medication in general because they prescribe for so many different conditions and so get all their information from their pharmaceutical salespeople.
Never considered effexor xr/venlafaxine as i was so put off with the reviews of weight gain and the awful discontinuation symptoms. Prozac was great but major weight gain in two months.
i need one that works without serious side effects and no weight gain.
Setraline would be perfect if it wasn't causing heart probs.
Going of off vyvanse is different for everyone, but generally isn't fun. When you go off of the medication the important thing is to fight the urge to just sit down, eat, and do nothing. If I were you I would do some sort of food journal while you are on the medication for a couple of days and track your activity. Try to follow your patterns that you kept while on the medication and that should help with the possible weight gain.

I've read numerous research articles written from 2003 to 2014 that state Prozac can cause minimal weight loss when initially beginning treatment. However as your body adjusts to the medication research indicates this drug does result in weight gain in the vast majority of patients taking it. From what I've read weight gain will continue as long as you take it. Wellbutrin is the only known drug for the treatment of depression and anxiety proven to cause weight loss.
When I started Welbutrin I lost about 20 pounds. I know it may effect people in different ways. With Effexor I gained 30 pounds, I was so glad to get off of it.
The weight will come off when you discontinue the medication - or switch to a medication that has less of a chance of causing weight gain (ie. Prozac). Serotonin is a neurotransmitter involved in regulating mood. It tends to have a sedating effect that can interfere with your metabolism and make you feel more hungry (especially for sugar and carbs).
