Avatar n tn I've been taking regular adderall (non xr) for 10t years for ADHD. The medicine does help with the ADHD but I'm concerned with the long term effects. I know Adderall can cause weight loss /decrease appetite as a side effect. With the exception of the past couple of years I was able to keep my wieight down partly due to the drug. However the past 2 years or so I seem to be gaining wieight.

Avatar f tn GERD is what I initially thought after researching my symptoms. I've always had a nervous stomach, I've had issues with a nervous stomach since I was younger; throwing up easily. Do you know if GERD would cause my body to change so drastically? I don't understand the 40+ lb gain within a year.. Would GERD treatment resolve my swollen/excessive weight gain? I've had this ongoing cough for a very long time and presents it's self with stress and anxiety.
Avatar f tn Please help. My son is autistic. He has bowel issues. He can hold in an enema. He is on several meds. Adderall, Metformin, Risperdol, clonidine. I'm wondering if the weight gain is causing the adderall to be less effective. He's on 20mgs in the morning and 10mgs in the afternoon. He complains about he can't focus any more. It's making him very upset and very hard to deal with. I'm at my wits end. He will only deal with me. I feel like I'm a terrible mother.
Avatar f tn I have been taking YAZ for about nine months and have recently decided to go off birth control all together. I stopped taking the pills about three weeks ago and I have been bleeding on and off ever since. I'm wondering if this is normal and will go away or if I should start taking the pills again, or maybe switch to a different birth control. I'm also concerned because I don't want to start a new birth control routine and gain more weight. What should I do!? Please help!
Avatar f tn Why are the side affects of antidepressants sleepiness drowsiness and weight gain? So, I’m supposed to get better from sleeping all day and having no motivation with medication that has these side effects? It makes no sense! They should prescribe Adderall for people who are depressed...
Avatar f tn I also used shroom on the medicine but listening to your advice all I have is left over medicine and shrooms along with alchohol I wanted to get off the antipsychotic due to weight gain, fatigue, slow thinking laziness etc along with brain damage possibly but what do you suggest also what should I do with the left over weed products and other stuff.
Avatar n tn do you think one would be better med than the other? Only other issue is weight gain. Going to the doctor today.
1240654 tn?1268317515 My first experience with Abilify was an abnormal one (so please do not take this too seriously, as it seems I was an exception), since it threw me into a manic state; however, my Psychiatrist has come to the conclusion that I'm just wired completely different. After being weaned off the stuff for about a week, my Psychiatrist put me back on it, but a fourth of what I was taking.
Avatar f tn Another thought is that weight gain among adults with adhd is common due to (they think) lack of impulse control. If the Vyvanse can control this the Contrave might not be needed? This is why I kind of assume the prescriptions were from two different doctors. Hope this helps.
Avatar n tn i find i can concentrate much better now and get on with alot of things i couldnt before, however, i get side effects from taking it, i lose my appeitie alot of the time so therefore i have very little control over my weight lose/gain, I also take Temazepam at night to try and help me sleep as that can sometimes be rather hard to wind down. this is also a side effect of Ritalin. i take a form of Ritalin called Concerta which is a 12 hour slow release.
Avatar m tn Personally, I think I would do like weight-loss programs do...taper off just BEFORE you get to your goal weight and try to finish to the end "all by yourself". Otherwise, I think you will have a hard time maintaining - not just physically, but psychologically. Good for you, though! I'm glad you are doing this "legally", and with a doctor's approval. I know NOTHING about adderall except that I've seen it in magazines. Would it help me to behave?
Avatar f tn I understand about the weight gain. I've been there myself with it. Are you doing well on the Lexapro? If so, then you may want to think about staying on it. A few extra pounds is really worth it if your doing well on a med. If you do decide to quit taking it then your Dr should give you a tapering schedule. It's hard to say how fast you would lose the weight because we're all so different.
Avatar f tn Does anyone else have this issue?? How did you cure it? I never lost weight with Adderall (thank god) because if I did I would've dipped into below average BMI since currently mine is 19. I am very insecure about how small I am and I've been gaining weight recently but due to this I'm losing again and I'm having a lot of self-esteem and self-worth issues due to it.
Avatar f tn I feel the same way.... been on adderall for like 10 years and no matter how long i'm off it, i still can't get my energy back. I gain weight, can't get it off. i try to be active and eat healthy and still can't get energy level back to normal. it's such a disadvantage that i started taking it again. i hate this cycle.
Avatar f tn I have gained over 50 pounds while taking it and I know that it is the subutex causing the weight gain because I took methadone for 5 years before the subutex and I gained a lot of weight on it too and no matter how good I ate or exercised the weight wouldn't budge. When I went off the methadone and was drug free I lost 70 lbs. in 5 months until I started the subutex and now I am fat again.
Avatar f tn I have not gained back the weight after going off of Adderall, or Ritalin, but then again, I get to eat more when I eat healthy. So I'm never "hungry". Also food may be your childs drug of choice or comfort item. I go through spurts of binge eating in that I will eat oranges, like 5 a day for 6-9 months, then not pick one up for a year or more. I am currently on eggs, avocado's and red bell peppers in a tortilla. In fact, anything in a tortilla works for me...
Avatar f tn My ADD symptoms seem very slightly improved, except brain fog/chatter, and sleep habits which are greatly improved. Why would it cause weight gain and sleepiness? Does my dose need changed or should I ask to try diff medication? Could my response be somewhat diagnostic in nature?
527657 tn?1214051850 I have gained 40 pounds and im not going to gain another. I dont even have to eat anything to gain, just take the pill.
Avatar f tn ALSO, after 8 yrs on Abilify, had unexplained weight gain of 15-20 lbs. in spite of good diet, reg exercise. Now weaning off Abilify due to wt. gain and titrating up on Lamictal for obvious mood swings. Idk, Abilify worked well for me with Zoloft for approx 8 years. Good luck to you!
Avatar n tn I'm so concerned. My 24 year old daughter takes adderall and has been taking it for 4 years. She has increased her dose to 20mg. She's 5'5 and weighs only 104 pounds. I have tried everything to get her to gain weight. She does it but very little. She honestly thinks she looks good. I think she's addicted to it. She says she cannot focus at work unless she takes it. What can I do. Mom This discussion is related to <a href='http://www.medhelp.
Avatar f tn state of mind, and I feel like I have no mind. Not to mention all the weight I gain. I decided after consulting with a therapist that I should get off of them, so I quit, cold turkey. I know it's not the best way to go, but I've tried weaning myself off and it didn't work. It's been about a week and a half now, and the withdrawal symptoms are starting to go away, but I find myself being more emotional and just feeling really lonely now. Is that normal?
