Avatar m tn However, glutamate is considered largely for depression because it is stimulating to the brain, not calming. On the other hand, if you reduce glutamate and, presumably, one of its precursors, glutamine, you run the risk of muscle wasting. It is also involved with GABA production. I'd research this one pretty thoroughly before I'd treat an anxiety disease by possibly increasing weakness and depression, since depression and anxiety often go together.
1200450 tn?1317496867 I feel like this is such a huge milestone. I also wanted to say congrats to my buddy Dem who also made it to day 30 today. Congrats and keep on going! So at 30 days clean of vicodin addiction, I can say it hasn't been an easy road. I have good days and bad days but more good days than anything here recently. I'm still tired most of the time. I have trouble waking up in the morning and my sleep is not back to normal yet. I still get cravings every now and then.
Avatar f tn Your L-glutamine levels are probably low, most people's are. Glutamine is a major fuel source & therefor energy source for the entire body. It is particularly concentrated in the brain, skeletal muscles, gut lining, lungs, heart, kidneys, & liver where it has multiple & critical functions. Glutamine is highly concentrated in the brain , being 10-15 times more concentrated in the cerebro-spinal fluid than in the blood.
Avatar m tn You are asking if your increased anxiety has anything to do with glutamate consumption. That is one supplement that crosses the blood brain barrier (many don't). But you know? It is actually often used to 'treat' anxiety. There is no true evidence that it affects things one way or the other. I am a long standing hypertension patient. I have 'familial' hypertension which means it is genetic. It was discovered when I had my first child and my bp spiked substantially.
Avatar n tn Has anyone seen their results change radically in 6 months? Was moved to 150 mcg from 138 mcg. How long will it take before this starts to relieve these terrible cramps that I'm getting dozens of times a day?
Avatar m tn Before I start consuming the glutamine I use to loss 5 pounds every 2 weeks. Is the glutamine making a weight loss restriction for me?
Avatar m tn For proton MRS uses this information to determine the concentration of metabolites (such as lipids, lactate, N-acetylaspartate (NAA), glutamate/glutamine (Glx), creatine (Cr), choline (Cho), and myo-inositol (mI). The key idea here is that different T1 and T2 Sequence Techniques make the protons spin differently and you loos the ability to compare between different sequence types. Is isn't just the weighting where T1 (more water in whiter) and T2 (less water is whiter.
Avatar n tn SuperNutrition believes in putting maximum amounts of nutrients in their supplements. I personally avoid them for that reason; a supplement should be a supplement, not a drug. A lot of people like their supplements for this reason, but as I say, I avoid them. Now, you're mixing a lot of things in that supplement that affect your neurotransmitters while you're taking a medication that artificially alters the way the body uses serotonin.
Avatar m tn slippery elm - i will give it a go. i have leaky gut - has ibs-like symptoms. it's in a powder at the healthfood store - how much of it do i take? thanks.
Avatar f tn Several studies have demonstrated that there is little benefit from glutamine and that high doses can actually increase brain glutamate and trigger excitotoxicity, which destroys brain cells and connections. Intestinal cells use glutamine as a fuel. If taken, it should not be used for more than two weeks.
Avatar f tn i guess i wanted to post to say hi and hope you find the answers you looking for..because i know how difficult it is..my daughter had a rare bowel disease..hirshbrungs...and although its so different...i guess i just wanted to say that people are listening and seeing your post...
Avatar m tn >> In my case glutamine and collagen make my reactions worse. That's interesting, I've never heard of that. I know other PATMERs who benefit from it too so I'm surprise it doesn't work for you. There's another thing you have to take in mind. A proper died is compulsory. If you eat KFC, MacDonald, bread, butter etc. it almost makes no different. >> What brand glutamine you take ?! I took "L-Glutamine" from Jarrow Formulas. I always take it with Collagen.
382218 tn?1341181487 Vanda Lennon, now show that NMO-IgG sets off a chain of events that leads to a toxic build-up of a neurotransmitter called glutamate. NMO-IgG binds to a protein that normally sops up excess glutamate from the space between brain cells. When NMO-IgG is around, this sponge-like action is blocked, allowing glutamate to accumulate. And too much glutamate can kill the cells that produce myelin - the protein that coats and protects neurons.
562501 tn?1223921789 I took Glutamine for everything from tummy problems, to mouth sores, to energy maintenance, to painful urination, etc. I never got fatigued, not during chemo or radiation. I worked full time and worked out at the gym, a mixture of weights and cardio, for months. I think the Glutamine was the one thing that kept me feeling so good. The B vitamins are also great for energy. As is acupuncture. Honest! Hope this helped.
Avatar m tn s main interaction is with the glutamate system. Chronic alcohol exposure is hypothesized to alter the normal balance between neuronal excitation and inhibition. A glutamate receptor modulator, Campral is believed to act on the biochemical systems that are involved in alcohol dependence. Campral interacts with neurotransmitter systems and is hypothesized to restore the normal balance.
Avatar m tn My naturopath put me also on L-Glutamine on an empty stomach, but it is also supposed to help with joint pain so I am unsure as to why your body is reacting that way. Maybe the dosage is to high for you? Excess L-Glutamin does cause amonia buildup in the blood but usually not until excess of 5 grams.
451053 tn?1237577749 I too had mouth sores...I used L-Glutamine to relieve them. It worked immediately. Glutamine is an amino acid which is produced by the body in the digestive track. Chemo kills it. Glutamine is a supplement sold at GNC stores and health food places. It's a powder that you can mix with pudding, lemonade, etc. I used one tablespoon of it, mixed with an 8-ounce glass of water, as a mouthwash. Incredible stuff.
Avatar m tn MSG is a stimulant and it does have an effect on the heart for many people. I have arrythmias and if I have anything with too much MSG it makes my heart pound in my chest and beat harder than normal. I've never had an experience with red wine but I know that alcohol can cause arrythmias. You might want to check out your meds you're on to see if there is a problem with using them with alcohol. My guess is that both MSG and alcohol together may have caused the problem.
Avatar f tn Hi, I have been suffering from Chemo-induced-neuropathy and I wonder if anyone out ther is going through it also and if so, what can you say about it? I nee to conect with someone that understands me.
Avatar n tn http://www.nami.org/Template.cfm?Section=By_Illness&Template=/TaggedPage/TaggedPageDisplay.cfm&TPLID=54&ContentID=26414 However, the glutamate antagonists are too new to be mentioned there. Here is a link to an article about them: http://www.schizophrenia.com/research/javitt.htm Those are the new class of medications I was talking about.
Avatar n tn Hello. I have been underweight for a long time. I suspect I have a leaky gut. I just learnt about Glutamine supplements. I want to find out if it's fine to take Glutamine supplements.
