Common Questions and Answers about Glucose vs dextrose

glucose

Avatar f tn Just finished the dextrose (I think that is what we are drinking) for the glucose test......orange flavor.....it is not as bad as everyone describes it on these boards. It tastes like a cheap juice from a gas station or corner store.
Avatar m tn I believe that the benefits pf statins outweigh the risks and have altered my eating lifestyle so to nearly exclude carbohydrates. This has enabled me to continue statin regime while keeping my fasting blood glucose levels at acceptaptable unmedicated levels. My wife on the other hand continues to take Metformin while on the statin drug.
2135035 tn?1345463035 Food manufacturers are confusing the public with hidden sugars [dextrose is a simple sugar. Types are dextrose, sucrose, fructose] Fructose is found in fruits so eat fruits with other foods to slow the absorption of fructose. They also list ingredient measurement as grams such as carb sugar. The conversion formula is simple, every 7 grams equals one Heaping Tablespoon of refined sugar. And eat a low carb meal. All carbs raise blood sugars, some faster than others.
1423357 tn?1511085442 Equal contains Dextrose, commonly called glucose, d-glucose, or blood sugar. Dextrose is made up of high carbohydrates which is known to raise glucose levels. Equal also contains Maltodextrin, which is made from cornstarch. It is a simple carbohydrate that is quickly absorbed into the bloodstream, thus raising your glucose level. You might try switching to Splenda which is made from sugar but does effect nor raise your glucose levels. 4. Black tea has caffeine.
6810737 tn?1385004768 She goes to the vet twice a week to have dextrose with vitamins and potassium put her on her. We put sugar in her water to make sure her glucose level doesn't go down. I wake up at past midnight to feed her. But she's still having seizures. Does anyone have a shih tzu that experiences this? Do you have suggestions on how to cure this? Thank you.
Avatar n tn He has been battling hypoglycemia ever sisnce. We have been in and out of ICUs and all they can do is give him Dextrose 10% IVs a few days and send him home afterwards until it happens again. We are told it has something to do with when he eats and the food sits in his stomach a hormone or something chemical stimulates the pancreas to shoot EXCESSIVE insulin. Our gastros can't figure it out and our endocrinologists can't either? We are in Miami, Florida.
Avatar n tn Three days ago we found our 9 yr old toy poodle limp and we rushed him to the hospital. His glucose was 20 but the vet was able to get it back up with dextrose. She wanted to perform a test to check for hypoadrenocorticism, but felt because he made improvements on his own with the fluids, it wasn't warranted. Also she watched him the next day for glucose to fall again and it didn't. He wasn't fed to see if it would fall.
873325 tn?1295461896 -- a shorter time until the glucose begins to fall, but normal metabolic and counterregulatory responses as the glucose falls. As the glucose reaches hypoglycemic levels, the insulin is undetectable, counterregulatory hormones, fatty acids, and ketones are high, and glucagon injection elicits no rise of glucose. [edit] Treatment Once ketotic hypoglycemia is suspected and other conditions excluded, appropriate treatment reduces the frequency and duration of episodes.
Avatar n tn I don't know if it's your problem, but I discovered anything coming from Corn (cornflour, cornstarch, dextrose, glucose-fructose, etc). I get heartburns. I think it may be an intolerance or an allergy of something you eat.
Avatar m tn anyone had an allergy involving bread ? i don't know if you did some critical thinking of your own. but in my case, before this incident, i had eaten different bread but i had consistently checked the ingredients to weed out questionable ingredients like unspecified sugar and other baddies that might be gmo. and i haven't had problem till this time. from my casual research, it seemed dupont might've been selling it. and seemed dextrose could be gmo corn. holy sheet!
393685 tn?1425812522 Take a look at this information on mixing HCG with dextrose. Now it looks like people on NDT may not have HCG as a option to assist them with weight loss. Q: I have a question. I read this from you on a post about stevia. "This product must be avoided as it contains dextrose which is a sugar additive. This additive is know for causing stalls and gains." I am a thyroid patient on Natural Desiccated Thyroid made w/ dextrose. How does that work now? Am I not a candidate for HCG?
Avatar n tn Old Armour used dextrose (sugar) as a filler/binder, I felt better on it. Erfa uses dextrose, the new generic (Acella PN) uses dextrose.
Avatar m tn Its essentially almost the same as original amour (dextrose as a filler). It absorbs well with this filler and can be taken sublinguly with ease. Ive used five different manufactures of dessicated and ERFA seems to work the best for me. The one I have not tried is Acella NP Thyroid- if I was to change that would be the one I'd try, and like Erfa, it has no cellulose. But unlike Erfa ,NP is made in the USA, not in Canada.

Avatar f tn jsp My suggestion is low or no sugar and stay away from bad carbs for the latter will jack up his glucose levels. For a list of good carbs vs bad carbs go here http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art6628.
Avatar f tn Who's they? Splenda does not make a chocolate nor a mocha product. Chocolate is absorbed more slowly than certain other foods. This means that the body has a bit more time to deal with the rise in blood sugar. Also bear in mind Splenda makes a sugar blend and a brown sugar blend. Yes, these Splenda products contain sugar, ½ tsp = 2 grams (Seven grams equals one heaping Tablespoon of sugar).
Avatar n tn It may seem counterintuitive but hunger and glucose levels are two separate processes. Hunger is what your body craves vs excess sugar circulating in your blood stream. Make sense?
Avatar f tn I would say that there could be a relation yes, at least theoretically, but an endocrinologist would be able to answer this question correctly.
Avatar m tn My son had a dextrose pleurodesis followed by a 5g talc pleurodesis the following week because the dextrose didn't hold up. He had a tough recovery because of muscle spasms in his lower chest. 9 months later, he hasn't fully recovered. He still has a tough time feeling comfortable doing basic stuff like watching a movie or drawing. He's constantly take deep breath because his lungs feels stiff and needs to lay down about 10x a day.

Avatar n tn Hello. I posted a few weeks ago regarding concern about my bloog glucose. To sum up, I had never had a fasting blood glucose, have diabetes in my family, so decided to get a home monitor, see where I stood (given I am still in my 20's but not in good shape - getting there, exercising now, but wanted a baseline).
11079965 tn?1415126517 Does anyone know if i can drink water before my glucose test they just told me not to eat but i forgot to ask if i can drink water????
Avatar n tn My fasting glucose results (Glucose Plasma-Hexokinase), three in last three months have been in the range of 108-120 mg/dL (normal range 70 - 100). In my last test I also got the HbA1c checked, it is: High Performance Liquid Chromatography-HPCL = 5.5 % (normal range 4.27 -6.07) The question is that fasting glocose test is indicating high glucose level but HbA1c in reasonably below the max. value. Which one is to be relied upon? Shall I be concerned at these glucose levels? Thanks in advance.
