Gestational diabetes is a type of diabetes that can develop in some women late in pregnancy (usually after the 24th week). Women who develop gestational diabetes do not have diabetes before becoming pregnant. The oral glucose tolerance test involves quickly drinking a sweetened liquid (called Glucola), which contains 50 g of glucose.
Avatar f tn I have had my first glucose test and it came back as being abnormal and my doctor has sent me for an Oral Glucose Tolerance Test. With everything that's going on in this pregnancy I forgot to ask the doctor if this would mean that I would definately have Gestational Diabetes. Can anyone help???
Avatar f tn same here ppassed 3 hr test
Avatar f tn My chances of developing diabetes are high, both my parents have diabetes, I got tested at 10 weeks and got normal results, at 16 weeks I got another test (due to having glucose on my urine) and my one hr came back slightly elevated 156/140 and had to do the 3 hr and got normal results! Today I eat at 9 am, I had a sprite with my meal, and I decided to check my blood sugar with my mom's machine, and to my surprise my reading came 99 after 3 hrs, it is a normal number right??
Avatar f tn You do have to drink a really sweet drink and then wait for an hour. You won't be able to leave the premises so bring something to do. You don't need to fast prior to the test. It's to see how your body metabolizes glucose. If your results fall within 'normal' you should be good to go. If not you'll have to do another glucose tolerance test. For this one you do have to fast (12 hours) and it's usually a 2 hour test.
Avatar f tn As with fasting or random blood glucose tests, a markedly abnormal oral glucose tolerance test is diagnostic of diabetes. However, blood glucose measurements during the oral glucose tolerance test can vary somewhat. For this reason, if the test shows that you have mildly elevated blood glucose levels, the doctor may run the test again to make sure the diagnosis is correct.
Avatar f tn Hi all, Just wanted to let you know that i went for the Glucose test today and the results are really high - they are way above the normal range and so i guess i have Gestational Diabetes. I am praying hard that i am able to control it by diet and exercise alone. I am 27 weeks 4 days today.
4141598 tn?1353918254 Just because you had a positive glucose screening test, it does not necessarily mean that you definitely have gestational diabetes. YOu will need to go for a second (longer) glucose tolerance test. You need to ask your doctor if you have to fast for this test. Usually water is OK, but you should ask ahead of time just to be sure- you don't want to have to repeat it. Good luck.
Avatar f tn That combined with the fact that my paternal grandma had gestational diabetes has me kind of freaking out about this (but no other fam history of it). Any thoughts or related personal experiences would be appreciated!
Avatar n tn Hi, certainly it is possible to have diabetes (more likely after gestational diabetes). You probably should be checked for type 1 diabetes, which can also occur as an adult. This will involve antibody testing as well as checking blood insulin levels. Although your sugar levels are not terribly high, they do seem higher than normal. Hba1c of 5.2 is not high, and still within high normal range.
3104777 tn?1363885649 Gestational diabetes is just that, it does not mean you will have diabetes after giving birth. If you fail the test, I would retest, it's inaccurate a lot of the time.
Avatar f tn If you fail the glucose test means you have gestational diabetes thats what the glucose test is for

Avatar n tn I'm a 53 year old woman who just had a 3 hour glucose tolerance test, here are my results: Fasting - 106 1 hour - 210 2 hour - 230 3 hour - 167 I'm not sure if these results mean I'm a pre-diabetic or diabetic. Thank you for your help in advance.
Avatar f tn 8, so I had to do the 2 hour glucose test. I ended up throwing up halfway through the 2 hour glucose test and the doc sent me to the diabetes counsellor for precautionary measures. After about 2 weeks of testing my blodd te doc let me retake the 2 hour test and my levels came back perfect and i dont have to see the diabetes doc anymore!
Avatar f tn re a healthy weight. It is called the one hour glucose tolerance test because your blood is drawn one hour after drinking the glucose drink. If you fail and have to do the three hour the draw your blood first, make you drink the drink, and then draw blood at specific time intervals throughout the next three hours. The purpose of the test is to see how your body responds to and processes a large amount of glucose.
Avatar n tn I had a glucose tolerance test and an insulin fasting (drinking the glucose drink) blood test done. I have seen my results but have not had them interpreted for me. My glucose fasting results came back within normal range but my insulin fasting results came back out of range for the 0,1, & 2 hour results. They were much higher than the normal ranges. Does this mean I have insulin resistance?
Avatar f tn So she said their was allot of carbs and thats prob why their was sugar present when they tested it. But I have to go for a glucose tolerance test Wednesday just to make sure thats what it is! . . . But im a bit worried about it I have always eaten healthy and im not over weight (pre pregnancy) and I dont have any family members with diabetes so im hoping I dont have it! Im quite worried!!!
