Avatar n tn I'm a 53 year old woman who just had a 3 hour glucose tolerance test, here are my results: Fasting - 106 1 hour - 210 2 hour - 230 3 hour - 167 I'm not sure if these results mean I'm a pre-diabetic or diabetic. Thank you for your help in advance.
Avatar f tn As with fasting or random blood glucose tests, a markedly abnormal oral glucose tolerance test is diagnostic of diabetes. However, blood glucose measurements during the oral glucose tolerance test can vary somewhat. For this reason, if the test shows that you have mildly elevated blood glucose levels, the doctor may run the test again to make sure the diagnosis is correct.

Gestational diabetes is a type of diabetes that can develop in some women late in pregnancy (usually after the 24th week). Women who develop gestational diabetes do not have diabetes before becoming pregnant. The oral glucose tolerance test involves quickly drinking a sweetened liquid (called Glucola), which contains 50 g of glucose.
Avatar n tn I had a glucose tolerance test and an insulin fasting (drinking the glucose drink) blood test done. I have seen my results but have not had them interpreted for me. My glucose fasting results came back within normal range but my insulin fasting results came back out of range for the 0,1, & 2 hour results. They were much higher than the normal ranges. Does this mean I have insulin resistance?
Avatar f tn 8, so I had to do the 2 hour glucose test. I ended up throwing up halfway through the 2 hour glucose test and the doc sent me to the diabetes counsellor for precautionary measures. After about 2 weeks of testing my blodd te doc let me retake the 2 hour test and my levels came back perfect and i dont have to see the diabetes doc anymore!
Avatar n tn hey all, i have not been diagnosed with diabetes but i do have neuropathy and have been ruled out for just about any neuro disorder that could cause my symptoms (burning feet/pain, numbness, tingling in hands/feet). i had a blood sugar test (the finger ***** one) and my level was "perfect". i scheduled a glucose tolerance test just because i want to 100% sure i dont have diabetes...is this necessary? do i need the glucose test if my blood sugar test came back just fine???
Avatar n tn A fasting plasma glucose (FPG) test , an oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) or a random plasma glucose test, along with an assessment of symptoms, is used to diagnose diabetes. Risk factors for diabetes include age, excess body weight , family history of diabetes, hypertension, and dyslipedemia increases the chance of being a diabetic. Hope this helps. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn I would recommend a OGTT (oral glucose tolerance test). My glucose was normal on fasting but abnormal two hours after drinking glucose. My fasting insulin was high and even higher two hours. (I would recommended insulin to be tested as well). In my case too much sugar in my diet lead to insulin resistance but hyperthyroidism caused impaired glucose tolerance.
1057195 tn?1289363329 Hi ladies, have anyone taken the glucose tolerance test as yet. I am scheduled to have mines on the 29 of April. At my last vist my OB said I have glucose in my urine. She said it could be because I had just eaten before my visit. Has this happened to anyone?
Avatar m tn Till now I have no history of either diabetes or hypertension. I am 26 weeks pregnant and have to undergo glucose tolerance test (GTT). It is usually advised to take the test early morning as metabolism falls in afternoon due to diurnal rhythm. My problem is that I have an upside routine for the past 5 months, I sleep during day around 8-9 AM and wake up at 5-6 PM in the evening. Can I take my GTT in evening, I assume that my biological clock is now set according to my sleep cycle?
306245 tn?1244384967 The accepted ways of screening for diabetes are a fasting glucose, a random glucose(not as good) or a 2 hour glucose tolerance test. A HgB A1C is sometimes used by doctors but it is not widely accepted as a good screening measure, so I suggest a fasting or an OGTT. You should also have a thyroid screen(TSH) done. Fasting glucose is not perfect, so yes you can have a "false negative" in terms of saying you have no abnormalities in glucose handling.
Avatar f tn I have had my first glucose test and it came back as being abnormal and my doctor has sent me for an Oral Glucose Tolerance Test. With everything that's going on in this pregnancy I forgot to ask the doctor if this would mean that I would definately have Gestational Diabetes. Can anyone help???
12208248 tn?1424755226 Yes it does vary depending on your Dr but according to the National Institute of Health the glucose screening is generally done between the 24-28 weeks unless you have glucose in your urine which the Dr usually tests every time you are in and if you have an abnormal glucose screening or 1 hour test then you go on to the glucose tolerance test or 3 hour test.
