Avatar n tn Chromium appears to play a role in normal insulin function and glucose utilization, and some investigators have suggested that it increases insulin sensitivity and glucose tolerance and decreases blood glucose levels in certain diabetics, possibly those with low chromium levels. However, others have not corroborated these findings, and a few have even reported a negative effect on glucose tolerance and blood levels.
Avatar f tn As with fasting or random blood glucose tests, a markedly abnormal oral glucose tolerance test is diagnostic of diabetes. However, blood glucose measurements during the oral glucose tolerance test can vary somewhat. For this reason, if the test shows that you have mildly elevated blood glucose levels, the doctor may run the test again to make sure the diagnosis is correct.
Avatar m tn If you are concern about it, you could get a test done to see if you are diabetic/prediabetic/healthy. The test is a two hour glucose tolerance test. you have to fast for 8 or 12 hours, they test your fasting glucose, then they give a sugary drink. 2 hours after, they test your blood sugar again. if your blood sugar is >11.
Avatar n tn OGTT Based upon 75g of glucose my results normal range (from my lab) Fasting 106 70-94 1 hour 210 70-179 2 hour 230 70-154 3 hour 167 65-139 I do have a doctor appointment coming up the beginning of January to discuss my results but until then, I've been doing my own research on the internet and trying to eat better and exercise 30 minutes a day.
Avatar n tn A fasting plasma glucose (FPG) test , an oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) or a random plasma glucose test, along with an assessment of symptoms, is used to diagnose diabetes. Risk factors for diabetes include age, excess body weight , family history of diabetes, hypertension, and dyslipedemia increases the chance of being a diabetic. Hope this helps. Take care and do keep us posted.
470168 tn?1237471245 If I stray off this diet my blood sugar goes up and then my GP starts sending me for blood tests, and repeat blood tests and then glucose tolerance tests. The last time that happened I stuck to the diet and then went for the glucose tolerance test, which came back normal. I have recently been under alot of stress and admit to having been comfort eating and drinking! This has sent my blood tests high again and I have been asked again to go for a glucose tolerance test.
Avatar n tn I have read that one of the common symptoms of POTS is reactive hypoglycemia, lowering of glucose. Researchers have come to understand that this lowering of glucose levels is not the only cause, because patients’ bodies are also producing excessive amounts of adrenaline and other stress hormones. This site, The Serotonin Connection, better explains the connection between overproduction of adrenalin and stress and hypoglycemia. http://tinyurl.
Avatar n tn Now a dx of Diabetic Type II has been made based on a 3-hour Glucose Tolerance Test. Told that Dr a year ago there was more going on that merely Thyroid and Perimenopause. Was I ever right! Turns out that in an overview of regular blood tests, I don't indicate any problems. Because of that, he turly believed nothing would be found abnormal. Fasting blood glucose is still in the Normal range despite it takes 3 hours on the GTT for my glucose to get back to a normal level.
1253246 tn?1332073310 Hey Cindy ..Most DR.(at least here in Canada) will run the ... "Plasma Glucose test" then if there is a higher than normal reading on that they will run the... "Glucose tolerance test" I believe if the reading on that one is higher than 140mg/dl you are considered pre-diabetic and higher than 200mg/dl you are diabetic. The second test is the one GDSgirl mentioned where you drink the sweet stuff and they take blood after a few hrs.
Avatar f tn Your doctor should be checking your urine for glucose every time your seen. Also, you should be having a 1 hour glucose tolerance test. If you are within normal limits you won't have to do the three hour glucose tolerance test.
Avatar n tn Besides blood work, one of the tools that your physician should order is a glucose tolerance test. Diabetes is defined as having a fasting plasma blood glucose level of 126 mg/dl or greater on two separate occasions. In general, people who have a fasting plasma blood glucose in the 100-125 mg/dl range are defined as having impaired fasting glucose.

999058 tn?1257563650 My daughter was acting really off after an afternoon nap. My husband, who is a type one diabetic, tested her glucose and it was 248. She hadn't even eaten recently, she was going on 3-4 hours of not eating because she was taking a nap. We made a doctors appointment for the next day (today) but then when we went to the pharmacy to get a home A1C test, just to test it for ourselves, the pharmacist said we shouldn't wait until tomorrow and to take her in now.
Avatar m tn What do you think of the following statement regarding blood sugar spikes after meals: "First, the "normal" range for fasting blood sugar is still set too high. Current criteria specify that you are not "diabetic" unless fasting blood glucose exceeds 125 mg/dL. The range between 100 and 125 mg/dL is considered "pre-diabetic.
Avatar f tn The test that we recommend in the United States to check for hypoglycemia is a glucose tolerance test. I suspect from some of the foods you are listing that you do not live in the United States, so I don't know what this test would be called in your country.
Avatar n tn I am a long-time type 1 diabetic. I ALWAYS yawn when my glucose levels are dropping too low. Muscle cramps can happen when low, also. It may not hurt to have a glucose tolerance test, which might rule out either diabetes or hypoglycemia.
Avatar n tn My fest glucose level was at 170, and I did the 3 hours glucose tolerance test. The results were 290 after the first hour, 248 after 2, and 210 after 3. Also, there was glucose in my urine. After that, I did another blood/urine test (without festing at all), and no glucose or ketones were found in my urine, and my cholesterol was 169, which I think is perfect.
649848 tn?1534633700 I, recently, had a Glucose Tolerance Test due to fluctuating fasting glucose and weight issues, but the worst symptom is tiredness/afternoon crash. The results of the GTT were as follows: Fasting: 97 1 hr: 165 2 hr: 124 3 hr: 48 L 4 hr: 56 L Over the past 5 years, my fasting glucose levels have ranged from around 97 or 98 all the way up to 125, but never over 125. My A1c has ranged from 5.5 to 5.8 over the same period and my doctor has said I'm pre-diabetic.
Avatar n tn I am not a physician, but the mom of type one diabetic and the daughter of type 2 diabetic. I would suggest you make an appointment with your primary care physician or endocrinologist and ask him to test you for diabetes. There are several tests that they can do that are simple that can tell if you are have high blood sugars or if you are diabetic. The ranges of acceptable blood sugars usually depend on your age and sometimes build.
Avatar m tn The most likely etiology is degeneration of microcirculation secondary to chronic elevated glucose levels. You require a diabetic evaluation to include both an a1hbc and a glucose tolerance evaluation. A single test for sugar is meaningless because at some point in the day a diabetic may have a normal glucose level.

709686 tn?1277432159 If it is Type 1 Diabetes, you are somehow born with a weak pancreas or abnormal hormone system which causes the lack of insulin production. But about 90% of the diabetes patients are of Type 2 Diabetes which is still remain a myth among the Smart Scientists. Type 2 Diabetes is a diet & lifestyle related illness. Most people put the blame on the Sugar and Carbohydrate for the elevated glucose level in the blood.
