Common Questions and Answers about Glucose tolerance hypoglycemic

glucose

Avatar f tn Was that a glucose tolerance test? What was the normal range? What does the 37 signify? Was that your actual blood sugar level? Your symptoms indicate that you might need an adjustment in your thyroid medication. Do you have current lab results on your thyroid levels? That be, at least, Free T3, Free T4 and TSH. Please post the reference ranges, along with any results, as the ranges vary from lab to lab, so must come from your own report.
Avatar f tn Have you had a glucose tolerance test (GTT) done? Hypoglycemia can cause you to feel and/or be shaky, This would typically happen if you went too long without eating. There is a condition known as hyperinsulinemia that can cause hypoglycemia. Basically, you eat something containing carbs, your body overreacts with the amount of insulin it sends, and when your body finally starts using the insulin properly, you have too much of it there and you end up with low blood sugar levels.
Avatar n tn Chromium appears to play a role in normal insulin function and glucose utilization, and some investigators have suggested that it increases insulin sensitivity and glucose tolerance and decreases blood glucose levels in certain diabetics, possibly those with low chromium levels. However, others have not corroborated these findings, and a few have even reported a negative effect on glucose tolerance and blood levels.
Avatar f tn I will go ahead with the one-time glucose test firstly and if no answers I will ask for the glucose tolerance test....and lastly the antibody test. Thanks so much for the info. It would be nice to get to the bottom of what the problem is, so my boy can off-load the nausea and fatigue etc. ...
Avatar n tn There are dietary changes that might help with this problem -- I would suggest that you go to your doctor and have a glucose tolerance test done to see how your body is reacting to sweet foods or sugar. Many people who deal with hypoglycemia find that they do best if they remove all caffeine from their diets, and all simple sugars, for both stimulate the pancreas to produce insulin, and in the case of hypoglycemia, produce TOO MUCH insulin.
Avatar n tn Adrenaline raises glucose levels by stimulating the liver to change glycogen into glucose. When normal glucose regulation fails with type 2 diabetics, the kidneys are forced to remove excess glucose via the urinary tract. This usually is caused by insulin deficiency. In your case this does not apply. I have read that one of the common symptoms of POTS is reactive hypoglycemia, lowering of glucose.
975514 tn?1324997938 I left out in my previous post, an OGTT [Oral Glucose Tolerance Test] can be used in place of an fasting test. Sometimes doctors do both to verify one to test with another.
Avatar n tn If you think this might be the case, then you do need to see a doctor and have a glucose tolerance test done to evaluated your glucose levels when stimulated. One thing you should be aware of, though, is that sometimes frequent hypoglycemia is a precursor to eventual diagnosis of diabetes. Some hypo folks stay hypo for their entire lives and diabetes is not in the picture at all.
599954 tn?1227493985 t beat yourself up over not realizing your son had a real problem I do not understand the 71 BS nonfasting. That is perfectly normal. That is probably why the doctor is doing the glucose tolerance test. Yes, one's BS can [and often does] vary from day to day and hour to hour - even if you are not diabetic. There are parameters. If his glucose is way out of those parameters, it will give the doctor a diagnoses of diabetes.
Avatar m tn Did your doc give you a glucose tolerance test? Any history of migraine headaches? It's a lot of symptoms and could be so many things, and there are no doctors on this forum, but sometimes doctors aren't the best at determining blood sugar imbalances unless they are quite large and noticeable. Lesser imbalances can have a profound effect on some people. But again, those symptoms could be caused by a lot of things, including medication.
Avatar n tn Glucose intake helps quickly. Glucose tolerance test showed erratic insulin, irrelevant to the glucose level. Began about 10 months post gastric bypass surgery, but father had similar episodes and older sister is hypoglycemic. Several months ago, reports published that many post bypass Sx people have benign pancreatic tumors causing hypoglycemia.
Avatar n tn Do read more about it, for I know way too many people who are hypo but whose glucose tolerance tests do come back normal to feel that a normal glucose tolerance test is absolute proof that this isn't what is happening. It may be borderline on the day it was tested, but on another day with other combinations of food or hormones or stress, it may be very different, but you just didn't happen to be tested on that day.
390388 tn?1279636213 Hi Amy: The only thing I can think of is that she's judging by your A1c which is 6.4%. 6.4% is very good - diabetics strive for it to be 7% or lower - but perhaps if you're having other hypoglycemic symptoms (lightheadedness, shakey, dizzy, sweaty, etc.) then you're running on the lower end. I am NOT a Dr. but it sounds to me she might have mentioned that you're on the lower end of the spectrum to keep you mindful of hypoglycemia...
Avatar m tn basal glucose 92 mg/dl (ranges 65-110) 30 min 52 mg/dl (ranges 110-170) OUT OF RANGE 60 min 82 mg/dl (ranges <140) 120 min 63 mg/dl (ranges 70-120) OUT OF RANGE 180 min 101 mg/dl (no reference range) It would be great if someone could give me their feedback regarding these GTT results. Also, does the low fructosamine value doesn't mean that I could have hypoglycemia?
Avatar m tn Hi In 1957 I probably had an autoimmune reaction (think what happens when you get type 1 diabetes). In 1964 I took a glucose tolerance test because I get hypoglycemia many hours after eating too much sugar/starch/alchol (S). It was 70 1/2 hr 130 1 hr 175 2 hr 185 extended 3 hr 100 very minor low sugar episode about 4 hr. (no reading). My A1C has been about 6 since the test has been invented. My highest fasting blood sugar has been 90. Am I prediabetic?
Avatar n tn The dry mouth sensation and other symptoms (hunger, dizziness, etc.) COULD be symptoms of hypoglycemia. When my sugar levels are lower than normal, I feel those things. Eyes get dry, vision can sometimes blur, and things can even look "funny" when glucose is extremely low. The glucose tolerance test should show whether you are hypoglycemic or not. You might try drinking a little bit of juice when you feel this way to see if you feel better quickly.
Avatar f tn I suspected some sort of adrenal insufficiency, so I started monitoring my blood glucose - my hypothesis being that I would become hypoglycemic to some degree after any sort of stress. However I've found that my blood glucose increases immediately after exercise (not strenuous.Gentle swim, or walk) - sometimes outside normal ranges. Is this a normal response to exercise?
Avatar m tn 4 mmol/L away from type 2 diabetes diagnosis on my oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT). My random and fasting blood glucose is always normal. The OGTT test is ordered if there is a suspicion of prediabetes or diabetes with normal random or fasting glucose. Fasting glucose test: Pre diabetes: 100 to 125 mg/dL (5.6 to 6.9 mmol/L) Diabetes: 126 mg/dL (7.0 mmol/L) or higher Oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT). Pre diabetes: 140 to 199 mg/dL (7.8 to 11.0 mmol/L) Diabetes: 200 mg/dL (11.
Avatar n tn t know if this is the same as what you are describing, but it may not hurt to have a glucose tolerance test done rather than just a fasting glucose test so he can find out if his sugar drops too low when he eats. This could be happening if he eats large evening meals and then reacts by overproducing insulin.
1523917 tn?1302215871 but I refused to believe that and I finally found a Dr that would do a glucose tolerance test. My blood sugar dropped to 45 during the test. You feel light headed, irritable, weak, foggy brained....etc. You will learn to recognize the symptoms. I never needed medication. Stay away from sugar...this can make your blood sugar spike then crash. Proteins will bring your blood sugar up and keep it more stable.
