Gestational diabetes is a type of diabetes that can develop in some women late in pregnancy (usually after the 24th week). Women who develop gestational diabetes do not have diabetes before becoming pregnant. The oral glucose tolerance test involves quickly drinking a sweetened liquid (called Glucola), which contains 50 g of glucose.

10754687 tn?1412548611 Is a gestational diabetes glucose test necessary in pregnancy?
Avatar n tn I had my glucose test around 28 weeks, so you might not be far enough into your pregnancy. And as the previous poster said, it is to establish if you have gestational diabetes.
Avatar f tn You could have gestational diabetes which if goes untreated could be extremely detrimental to your baby. It's extremely important to know.
Avatar f tn Failing the 1 hour glucose does NOT mean you have gestational diabetes. The 3 hr glucose is a better determining factor. I have failed the 1 hour glucose in FOUR of my pregnancies but my 3 hr has always come back normal. With my last 3 hr it came back borderline high but still not diabetes, I was just told to watch my diet and sugar intake. Good luck and don't fret, wait until you get the results from the 3 hr.
Avatar f tn Gestational diabetes test, I have mine today too
1891853 tn?1344648442 If i fail, does that mean i have gestational diabetes? Or did the test just not work right? i did the 2 hour test yesterday and have to wait til my doc appointment next week to find out. I heard some people have failed it and had to do the,3 hr one. So what does "fail" mean exactly?
Avatar f tn Who has taken the glucose diabetes test? How did it go? I'm kinda nervous what if I do come out positive for it . Did your pregnancy still continue normal and did ur baby have any complications ?

Avatar f tn I am due July 10th my second child. I was told my glucose test came back high. I now have to go to the hospital for the glucose three hour tolerence test. A bit worried, I am hoping it comes back negative so I don't have to worry about having gestational diabetes. Any advice if it does come back positive?
Avatar f tn So I just failed the one hour glucose test. Now I have to do a three hour test later this week. I'm so scared. Has anyone been through this? How can it affect your baby?
Avatar f tn The test is a way for them to screen you for gestational diabetes. It's an important test for you and your little one. Eat a light non sugary breakfast before you go. Make sure the drink they give you is cold. Beat of luck.
Avatar f tn I have to re-do it at 20 weeks. A friend of mine had gestational diabetes and just had to test her sugar a few times a day and just made a few better food choices.
Avatar n tn Exactly. Pretty much everyone does the glucose test, because anyone can get gestational diabetes while pregnant. (Though, some people have higher risk). It's when pregnancy hormones mess with your body's ability to process sugar.
Avatar n tn I have gestational diabetes.
Avatar n tn Hello ladies have any of ya skip or went to do the glucose test at 25 weeks I hate it I don't want to do it
Avatar f tn Even if you declined the glucose test, they test your urine at every appt for sugar and protien. Possibly your urine has had consistantly had sugar in it so your dr may be taking a precaution. It is very important to be diagnosed if you do have it. I have it but because im following the diet, mine is under control and not on medication. I know it may suck but its best to either take it in and do what your dr has suggested for your babys sake or talk to him or her about your concerns.
Avatar f tn I just found out I have to take the 3 hour glucose test. I'm trying to change my diet to help myself and baby, what can I eat?
Avatar f tn I'm so nervous for my glucose test . It's in 2 weeks. I just hope I pass.
360318 tn?1340393363 i've had gestational diabetes in my previous pregnancy and will be tested twice this time, first test came back normal but i need to be tested further along. The drink wont cause harm as a one off but they do need to check how your body reacts to it, its more dangerous not to give the drink and potentially let someone who HAS it go misdiagnosed following no specific diet or care for GD.
Avatar f tn Did anybody else have to get the three hour glucose test done? If so did your doctor also tell you not to eat anything for 12 hours? Just wondering, can they legally make you get the three hour test done? Cause they said I was only a little bit either high or low, I can't remember but I know it wasn't that bad. So I'm wondering what would happen if I just didn't get it done.
4981292 tn?1381256805 What is the glucose test & what is the purpose of it? How does it work and how do you fail/pass the test :/ someone explain everything to.
Avatar f tn I got gestational diabetes with this pregnancy. Didn't have in the past with my prior two. i certainly wasn't happy about it, but it's fairly easy to deal with. I failed the first hour so badly they didn't make me take the 3-hr ...I think I had a 193. So OB's office called in a script for a glucouse monitor, test strips, lancets, and alcohol swabs and referred me to the nutritionist at the Perinatalogists. These guys managed the GD.
Avatar f tn Normal diabetes and gestational diabetes are different they arent connected.
Avatar f tn So everyone has told me that they are doing my glucose test way to soon. I'm almost 8 weeks along and I go tomorrow for my test. Is there a certain time they do it that is a lot farther along?
Avatar f tn Its a blood test that they do to check to see if you have gestational diabetes. Everyone has to take it. They give you a sugary drink and you have to drink it within 5 minutes, then after an hour they draw your blood. The drink can make you sick though, it made me very sick!
Avatar f tn I'm doing my gestational diabetes test tomorrow an I'm not looking forward to it all. I'm not worried about it. If I have it, I have it and I'll deal. I'm just dreading drinking the yucky stiff and having to sit in the lab for a couple hours.
