Avatar f tn That's crazy that so many women on here said their drs said not to fast. I've seen 4 different obgyns and all sais for the glucose test is a fasting test. Maybe that's why I see so many women on here saying they failed their test? I've never heard of not fasting for this test tho crazy!
590190 tn?1235964426 I am 29 weeks and recently took the glcuose test, no fasting involved. I had lunch at 12 including two yummy cookies and drank the glucose drink at 3 and had my blood drawn at 4. I get a call the next day because my levels were a little high @ 146. So I'm going to get another 3 hour test done on monday, should I be concerned or worried about gestational diabetes? help...im nervious about this...
975514 tn?1324997938 I recently had a blood test, which included a glucose test. I wasn't fasting. I ate a bowl of whole grain cereal at about 5AM. My test was a 10AM. My uncle has diabetes and my sister is hypoglycemic. I know I get sick if I have a shake from McDonalds, but that's about it. I get really tired and nauseated. I don't drink sugary beverages at all just because I am always watching my weight, but I wonder now how that would effect me?
Avatar f tn You shouldn't be fasting before the glucose test.. I was just told today to eat breakfast before I come in, and then once I drink the stuff I can't eat until after the test.
Avatar f tn Anyone know much about Glucose numbers? I had a test and they said number came back high and want me to retest. I asked what number was and they said 113. I asked them even after eating and that is high . .nurse said yes and come retest. All research I find says 113 is within normal to low range for after eating . . . anyone know anything on this?
Avatar m tn The difference between a fasting glucose of 101 and 106 is probably negligible. Both of your values suggest that you have impaired fasting glucose (range 100 - 125). The measurement is the same in fasting and non fasting testing - the difference is in the reference range. A normal fasting glucose is < 100 and the current thinking seems to be that even a result in the mid to high 90s might suggest close monitoring.
10881528 tn?1423629432 You should not eat before. Only drink water. You are supposed to take the test while fasting.
Avatar n tn Perhaps the best test for you would be to find out what your hemoglobin a1c test number is. This is a lab test done on glucose that shows what your AVERAGE glucose level was for the past 3 months. If that number is in the normal range, you probably have little to be concerned about. If you have not had a hemoglobin a1c test done, you may want to ask your doctor about doing it.
669150 tn?1320687133 I had to arrive at my clinic at 10am and told the front desk what time I took the glucose test. I had to arrive 15 minutes before so they can have me back there and draw my blood exactly an hour after I took the drink. Blood was drawn at 10:15am.
Avatar f tn Hey you guys..I will be six months on Tuesday and my next doctors appointment will be when I'm 26weeks and one day....I should be having my glucose tolerance test soon....I was wondering how was it for some of you? Like what was the process you had to go through? I'm just really curious before I have mime..
Avatar n tn As a supplement, are you sure it's 4 hr OGTT or a 2-hr one? 2 hr OGTT is only done when the fasting glucose is normal but the clinical picture still points to diabetes. As i've said 2 hr OGTT has a low reproducibiliy, but that's the only test we can do if the fasting glucose is normal but diabetes is still suspected. I think it's likely that you're receiving proper care, though I don't really know about the details of your situation.
306245 tn?1244384967 The accepted ways of screening for diabetes are a fasting glucose, a random glucose(not as good) or a 2 hour glucose tolerance test. A HgB A1C is sometimes used by doctors but it is not widely accepted as a good screening measure, so I suggest a fasting or an OGTT. You should also have a thyroid screen(TSH) done. Fasting glucose is not perfect, so yes you can have a "false negative" in terms of saying you have no abnormalities in glucose handling.
Avatar f tn Hello, I've never been concerned about diabetes before as my fasting blood glucose levels have always been under 100. However, my last fasting glucose test as well as my husband's were both high (mine 127, his 140). The doctor had us return for A1c tests which were in the normal range (mine 5.6, his 5.5). Based on that, the doctor assumed we had eaten something before the fasting test and said, 'see you in 3 months'. But we didn't eat anything.
10201748 tn?1419748841 Depends if ur doctor ordered ur test to be fasting which is no eating after midnight on the day of glucose test
Avatar f tn In going for my glucose test tomorrow and I was wondering if it was OK to eat before the test or not. I have heard it was ok but I have also heard that you shouldn't because it will mess the test up. What should I do?
Avatar n tn When we do a blood test in the morning, just as we wake up, we call that a fasting blood test. It is common for our fasting numbers to be a little higher than at other times of the day, as has already been explained. Perhaps you can find some good books written in your native language to help you understand some of the many small details of this disease.
Avatar f tn I had milk and left over garlic bread not even an hour before I started the test. My results came out fine. They are only checking random glucose tolerance not fasting. The cutoff for the results are different so you don't need to worry. Normally Your body is supposed to produce insulin enough to cover your intake no matter how much you eat.
Avatar f tn Hello~I am not a doctor or lab technician, so I really can not give you a clear answer on this. However, I am wondering if this test was "fasting" or "non-fasting" If fasting, the glucose looks a wee bit high to me, not much, but higher than most doctors like it to be if you are fasting, the desired levels are under 100.
Avatar n tn I just had my insulin tested this past October - December. This first test was done as part of a 2-hour glucose tolerance test. My lab report shows normal insulin to be 3 - 28 micro IU/ml. My doctor had me come back in for re-test and did not require fasting. So, I don't believe the normal 3 - 28 range is necessarily fasting. I would LOVE to have an insulin level of 3.0. On my first test my insulin was a whopping 151. My re-test in December showed my level was 17.
Avatar f tn I have my glucose test in a few weeks and myidwife said I have to fast as from 8pm the night before and that im only allowed to drink water
Avatar n tn Just got results from annual bloodwork. Glucose level was 270 and this was a fasting blood test. They told me it was high- How bad is it? My dr. was suspicious because I have lost weight and have a few other symptoms. So I am glad they tested, but do not have a follow up appt for another month. Any info is appreciated.
