Avatar n tn Dear Tony, I asked a couple of other volunteers about LifeTrac and none had heard of a beta test for a non envasive glucose meter. I also checked the web and other sites and could find nothing. It's possible I have missed something, but as we all know and as you said, we have to be a little cautious when it comes to somethings on the internet. You did'nt say where you saw this, but personally, unless I know it is a reliable source, I try to verify like you did.
Avatar n tn I Google'd "pen glucose meters" and found this Australian device. The picture is quite small but it appears to be near pen like size, permanent marking pen size. http://tinyurl.com/d33qtg This device uploads the measured data to the doctors office, or with remote file sharing enabled, the doctor can access Graham's PC anytime anywhere to retrieve his glucose data.
Avatar f tn If your fasting glucose is higher than 125 you are actually diabetic. If you get a blood glucose tolerance test your glucose level should be below 200 one - two hours after the test...
Avatar n tn It takes more blood than the Ultra and the test takes longer. It is also bigger and heavier like you said. The SOftclix device is great. I have also tried the Accu-chek active. This requires a smaller amount of blood, is lighter, has a canister of strips (not a drum), and is faster. The strips are pretty different from the Ultra and will take some getting used to.
Avatar m tn The lancet holder and blood glucose monitor were being used on many patients. Neither device was disinfected before or after being used on me. What is the risk of Hep-B in this situation? The CDC says that holders/monitors should be disinfected between uses because blood can transfer from the holder/monitor during the test.
Avatar m tn m a medical student, two months ago i was working on a research regarding diabetes, where we measure their glucose level using the glucose measuring device. i was wearing gloves while measuring glucose level from a 40 year old married man with two kids who seemed healthy and unsuspicious for hiv.
Avatar n tn 5.0 mmol/L (normal 3.6 - 6) After the glucose drink, which was ~60g of sugar roughly 1 hour later - 3.4 mmol / L (normal 3 .6 to 11) 2 hours later - 2.9 mmol / L (normal 3 .6 to 7.7) Insulin is 5.5 uU/ml (normal <17) 1 hour later - 23.1 uU/ml ( normal 46 - 102 ) 2 hours later - 11.8 uU/ml ( normal 23 - 59 ) I'm attempting to see an endocrinologist to get this checked out, could this relate to the UARS?
Avatar f tn You might try testing your glucose after meals as well and/or getting an A1C which will show you an average of all your glucose readings. I'm not sure what a commercial device to help with deep breathing would be, but off the top of my head this might influence blood pressure but not glucose. Have you spoken with your doctor about your symptoms? You don't say how long you have been Type II diabetic but after awhile diet and exercise need to be aided by meds.
Avatar n tn No Rx required for test strips. Try wherever you purchased the glucose test meter, or online at Amazon or web sites like americandiabeteswholesale.
Avatar n tn Twenty years ago a clip-on device was invented for the earlobe. It emitted light and provided a glucose reading. The FDA, in it's wisdom, denied the manufacturing permit because of innacuracies. Well - the inaccuracies were not that bad. And it eliminated the issue of the millions of diabetics who don't take glucose sticks because of needle shyness. They have an implanable device advertised in the diabetic newsletters. Otherwise use thin needles and an "automatic sticker".
Avatar m tn I would like to buy some glucometer for continuous glucose monitoring (CGM). Do you have any personal experience with this type of monitoring? Can you recommend me any device? Thanks a lot.
Avatar f tn I recently learned about the continuous blood glucose monitor offered by MiniMed. I have a MiniMed pump and was excited to learn that they had this new device available. Then I would know exactly when my blood sugar was getting to high or to low and I could take care of it that very second. Especially when I am trying conceive and during the pregnancy I think I would really help make sure I had a healthy baby. I contacted MiniMed about it.
Avatar m tn Hi, I work for a company promoting glucose meters. One day while collecting a glucose meter from a patient, i realized that the device was contaminated with some fresh blood which has come in contact with my finger. adding to my worry, there was a small cut in my finger. Now i am totally worried. it was a direct contact and the patient was not looking very healthy and very week. what are the chances of getting HIV? should I do a blood test?

Avatar n tn Google "bluetooth glucose meters" and "wireless glucose meters". Google will return thousands of hits some repeats, the latter 74,500 hits to be exact. The technology is new and coming fast, the FDA approval is slow. In order to be approved as a medical device it must undergo stringent testing. This takes time. I also see that a central data base is required for most devices which means subscription fees for both the patient and doctor to access the central data base.

Avatar f tn I want to know whether there is a difference in readings on a glucose monitoring device and the results obtained on HbA1c test . If there is a difference what do they each measure and what is their significance? What is the usual test done to determine diabetes as i recently read that the HbA1c test is being used as a diagnostics tool.. I also wanted to which kind of diabetes is more likely to result in cardiac issues for the patients....
Avatar f tn She has a glucose test two weeks ago, and they said that her levels are high but that's not what is concerning them right now. The blood work showed high liver levels. Tomorrow she's going for more tests. In the past they thought she may have RSD, and that if her circulation didn't get better, she may run the risk of foot amputation. She wears a device to stimulate circulation.
Avatar m tn 5), I was constantly testing it against my other eye, then the eye dr sent me to do a blood glucose test to rule out some possibilities, the test came back above normal 107, so started thinking about that too. Bought a blood glucose test device, started testing myself every day trying to calm down before each test, the results are in the normal range 88-92, but still at a high end.
603046 tn?1279159413 The twice yearly lab test however has always indicated an Asterisk (*) next to my glucose reading indicating above normal. My question is: Am I diabetic? I have a prescription for the glucose monitoring device which I take periodically. My concern is that I was told that as a person ages, the probability of having diabetes also increases.
Avatar n tn Hello there, Now that I have read a few things, I remembered not long ago, I got a glucose prick with one of those finger pricks to measure the glucose in your blood. I was wondering how those things work, because the nurse stapled my finger for blood to come out...if that was used on someone prior with HIV, could that be a way of transimision?
