875426 tn?1325528416 Earlier on I commented, "Fasting plasma glucose [FPG] normal is 60/70-99 mg/dl". No mention of 'random'. My labs or doctors do not consider 67 as low, borderline, yes, but not low. However, your parent's doctor may feel otherwise. Hence the / between 60/70. "(I don't really think the one the lab printed was the right one for a random specimen)" The lab copy should define the type of test. If not ask the doctor and/or contact the lab for an explanation.
13422552 tn?1429907388 Your glucose testing should be directed and done in such a way that it will tell you useful information. Fasting (ideally 70-95 range). Peak post eating (ideally 80 - 120 range, lower is better, but not higher than 140). Before eating - ideally is 80 - 95 range (ie. same as fasting). Then you can use this information to help guide your food choices / exercise / medication use as you will be able to see cause and effect of what you are doing.
1654177 tn?1319838494 First, congrats on obtaining SVR! Random Glucose Testing I'm with Kaiser Nor Cal. Random glucose [fasting] range is 60-159 mg/dl. Random non-fasting really doesn't provide a clear picture. A low of 68 mg/dl is worth follow up testing; Fasting, an OGTT [Oral Glucose Tolerance Test] and/or an A1c. if the OGTT points to diabetes and A1c usually is ordered. The OGTT sees how well your body shed excess glucose. The A1c looks at your glucose levels over the past 2-3 months.
Avatar m tn I AM NOT SURE IF THIS IS THE RIGHT FORUM FOR THIS BUT I AM PARANOID ABOUT HAVING DIABETES. I HAVE HAD 2 FASTING GLUCOSE TESTS DURING THE LAST 2 MONTHS. THE RESULTS WERE 92 ON THE FIRST AND 88 ON THE SECOND TEST. MY FAMILY DOCTOR SAYS NOT TO WORRY, THAT I AM NOT DIABETIC. BUT!!! I HAVE CONVINCED MYSELF THAT I HAVE ALL THESE SYMPTOMS; INTERMITTENT FREQUENT URINATION, DRY MOUTH AND THIRSTINESS, PAIN (PINS AND NEEDLES) IN MY LEGS AND FEET. ALL THESE COME AND GO.
Avatar n tn Even your highest reading post meal is well within the normal range for after meal sugars. It does seem to this volunteer that your morning fasting tests may be higher than ideal because of the morning also called 'dawn') phenomenon. Perhaps the best test for you would be to find out what your hemoglobin a1c test number is. This is a lab test done on glucose that shows what your AVERAGE glucose level was for the past 3 months.
Avatar n tn There are several ways you can diagnose diabetes. Your level last night after one cup of soda is more representative of a random blood glucose. A random glucose of >200mg/dL with symptoms of diabetes is diagnostic of Type 2 Diabetes. Therefore, from that one measure, you do not have Type 2 Diabetes. However, your fasting sugar is within the pre-diabetic range. Are you pregnant? You posted in the gestation diabetes section which is diabetes within pregnancy. Hope that helps!

Avatar m tn my fasting glucose was normal, but my A1c indicated pre-diabetes. I managed to bring my A1c down to a normal level by watching my carb intake. I wish I could give you more information.
Avatar m tn but the post lunch levels always within the normal range of viz 140.The random levels always varies from 125 to 150. Kindly advise me whether i am diabetic and do i have to take medicine for diabetes?
Avatar m tn I sent a message to my office, because I it appears that my body is not processing sugar as well and the nurse just waved it off, saying it was in normal range. Do you think I should be monitoring my sugar more closely? My next appointment is end of November. My second random question is, someone told me to try shining a light to my belly to get the baby to move. I tried it for 30 seconds and then read that it could damage their eyes....is this a real concern? I appreciate your help!
Avatar m tn 7 160lbs ive been urinating alot dry mouth,i have checked my glucose level with my step moms monitor on four different occasions two times fasting and two random during the day.the two fasting results were 93 one day and 105 another. The other two random readings were 95, and 91. Im worried i could be diabetic also theres no diabetes in my family.
Avatar f tn Does a persons age play a factor for their "normal" fasting glucose range? During my last visit to my 82 yo mother, I happened to see her test results that showed her fasting glucose range topping out at 180 mg. I, on the other hand, being 60 yo & under immunosuppressant meds have a range from 50 - 150 mg, yet I constantly hear the normal range is 70 - 120. Both of our blood samples are tested at the same lab too. So what is the "normal" fasting glucose range?
Avatar m tn Do I need medical attention and medication? Maybe, maybe not. Here's why I say that; a fasting (preprandial) glucose of 116 mg/dl indicates prediabetes. Your postprandial of 130 mg/dl is considered normal. So now what? Your best bet is to get an A1c (HgbA1c or HbA1c) test performed. This is the gold standard that most doctors use to determine a patients glucose level for diabetes. The A1c will inform the doctor, and you, how well you have managed your glucose over the past three months.
254215 tn?1195093384 But your weight sounds ideal, and your numbers are all within the so-called normal range of 80-126. Some doctors do consider the fasting glucose tests and will pull out the label prediabetic if fasting tests run above 100 even if the after meal numbers are still in the very normal under-126 range. Others that I have read comments from do not consider a person's after-meal level to be above normal unless it is above 146, so your numbers really do sound good.
Avatar n tn Hello, To me, I hope that I am wrong, you are likely a pre-diabetic, either type 1 or 2 . Question: Why with a single and random glucose reading at 165, that I conclude such guessing. Answer:It's very simply, a 5th grader can conclude the same thing as I did. Why? Because a non diabetic reading is almost always less then 120, even 1 hr. after meal.
Avatar n tn Everything is within normal range. I just have a question about ALT. Mines was 56 with reference range 9-60 u/l. I keep hearing that 30 is suppose to be normal and anything over 30 signals Hep C, Fatty Liver, etc..but does that go for 30-65 area? Why are some labs different? I am 28 5'11, 160lbs but I do not exercise and eat whatever I want. My doctor and a NP i visited do not seem concern at all.
580765 tn?1274919360 As I was getting them together and putting them in order, I noticed that the LP results that I had 6 years ago were slightly out of range. The normal range of glucose in a spinal fluid exam is 40- 70mg/dL. Mine was 74. My protein was 28 and within the range of 15-45. They did note that there were no oligoclonal bands present. The doctor still listed the LP as negative. Since I am not a doctor I do not know if a slightly elevated glucose level points to anything.

Avatar n tn We were allowed to keep the monitors and I have been doing some random blood glucose checks on myself when I am not feeling well to help myself better understand lows. Anyways today, about 1/2 an hour after eating I decided to do a check and my blood level was at 215 mg/dl. I thought I may have had something on my hands so I rewashed them really well and rechecked my blood and was again over 200. Can this happen to someone who does not have diabetes??
Avatar m tn Please get a blood glucose fasting and after food. Thyroid is normal. Random glucose level is normal but on lower side. I think you should discuss these possibilities with your doctor and the cause for high cholesterol. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted.
Avatar n tn I would do two things; first, fasting test with another meter and with yours at the same time to see if yours is out of calibration; two, I would get an A1c test to verify normal glucose level. If the A1c results are normal, don't fret anymore.
