230625 tn?1216761064 In your health pages, you reference a new lab technique for oligoclonal banding, "Isoelectric Focusing with Immunoblotting". The lab (Labcorp) that tested my CSF used "Isoelectric Focusing" (IEF). My testing was done in March 2007. Is this the same technique? What techniques are used other than the Isoelectric Focusing with Immunoblotting?
1399363 tn?1462342610 Histamine occurs naturally in certain foods and an enzyme called diamine oxidase, which is present in our body breaks down the histamine which we absorb from food. Deficiency of this enzyme can cause histamine intolerance. Among the naturally occurring fruits and vegetables some can be rich in histamines and some promote the release of histamine from mast cells. So, with consumption of food the reactions can vary.
Avatar n tn An infarct is a vessel that is not open at all. In ischemia, what you get is usually ST depression, below the isoelectric line. An infarct will show ST elevation in all the leads that reflect whichever part of the heart is being affected.
Avatar f tn The clinical significance of a numerical band count, determined by isoelectric focusing, has not been definitively defined. The data should be interpreted in conjunction with all pertinent clinical and laboratory data for this patient.
Avatar m tn m reading this wrong, but I have to disagree with your statement. A negative wave (below the isoelectric) does not indicate where in the heart the impulse was generated. It indicates net polarity. It can mean all sorts of different things. For instance, a T wave represents repolarization of the ventricles (recovery). It is usually net positive (above the isoelectric), however in certain ischemic situations or meds, the net polarity may be negative (below the isoelectric).
751951 tn?1406632863 A fingerstick or venipuncture at the time of lumbar puncture may therefore be performed to assess peripheral glucose levels in order to determine a predicted CSF glucose value. Decreased glucose levels can indicate fungal, tuburculous or pyogenic infections; lymphomas; leukemia spreading to the meninges; meningoencephalitic mumps; or hypoglycemia.
Avatar f tn Next Mon is my appt I will be 26w4d from that I will start seeing my dr evry two weeks and that day is my glucose test
Avatar f tn I got a copy of my lp results today and I found out something interesting but not sure what to make of it. Glucose, protein, myelin basic protein, spinal fluid culture are all normal. Here's what it says about Ogligoclonal Bands " The patient's CSF contains 2 well defined gamma restriction bands that are not present in the patient's corresponding serum sample. These bands indicate abnormal synthesis of gammaglobulins in the central nervous system.
Avatar m tn People already on MOA oxidase inhibitors, with narrow angle glaucoma, cardiac, liver and kidney disorders should not take Savella. If these symptoms are bothering you a lot seek medical help. Get your blood pressure checked. If your blood pressure is normal these effects may dissipate with time. Talk with your doctor before stopping Savella and do not stop suddenly; this can cause withdrawal symptoms .Discuss your concerns with your doctor. Take care!
Avatar f tn The quantity is not relevant for a normal liver, while cirrhotic have better do what they say in the faq open and let stay for 10-15min and alcool will evaporate.
233622 tn?1279334905 "As compared to the serum, isoelectric focusing immunofixation reveals 14 igG bands that are unique to the CSF. This is consistent with intrathecal synthesis of immunoglobulin and is considered to be a positive result for the oligoclonal bands. Oligocolonal bands are present in over 90% of patients with MS." So my question is Is this saying I have 14 O bands? The nurse told me I had 8. 8 is enough and I had a dx of MS even before the LP but I am just curious about the 14 count.

1475515 tn?1287189318 Sometimes this gas is produced in such huge quantities that the sulfide oxidase enzyme in the wall of the gut is not able to oxidize all of it and convert it to thiosulfate. This gas has a smell of rotten eggs or fishy smell. You need to cut down food items that contain sulfites. Most of this gas comes from sulfites a person consumes, which is a part of all preservatives. Sulfites are present in all juices, molasses, yellow dye in ready made food stuffs, and red wine.
Avatar f tn Ok so I failed my one hr glucose test. I attempted my three hr one but after the first hour it all came right back up and my face was really broke out for two days. So now they want me to take it again. What if it comes back up. I'm almost 32 wks and I just feel like they should give up already or find another solution.
Avatar n tn How many of you got a phone call saying your high normal for not having pregnancy diabetes but still want you to do the 2 hour test. For a normal pregnancy is 7 point something and if you have it it's 11 point something. I'm an 8 point something. I only remember the main number. He doesn't think I have it since it's closer to normal but still wants me to do the 2 hour. Who has gotten that call saying your a high normal and your test was fine after the 2 hour.
1334998 tn?1300674856 The Isoelectric Focusing for OCB test typically takes 4-6 weeks to get the results back. Most labs do not do this test and they send it out with a vial of your blood to a specialty or reference lab. Even the University of Colorado Heath Science Center doesn't do this test and send it out to the Reference Lab at the Univ of Utah.
1218873 tn?1300091216 The results of the LP are sent all over the place. The cell count usually goes to the Hematology section of the lab. The Protein and Glucose go to Chemistry. The gram stain (looking for bugs, fungi, and TB) and all the cultures go to Microbiology. Some of the more odd tests like fungal stains and culture or the TB stain and culture may be sent out. We all hope you don't have mushrooms in your CSF, tee hee.
Avatar n tn The probable reason you have not been asked to monitor your glucose more often is because at this point you have not been put on medication of any sort. So any glucose changes will happen fairly slowly as your system adjusts to the low-carb lifestyle. Since you cannot take medication if you see a high number, it is almost pointless to do the glucose test. And since you are not taking medication at this point, lows are not an issue.
