glucose

Avatar f tn In a person without diabetes, the glucose levels in the blood rise following drinking the glucose drink, but then then fall quickly back to normal (because insulin is produced in response to the glucose, and the insulin has a normal effect of lowing blood glucose.
Avatar n tn Hello! I'm not a medical professional, just the parent of a kid with diabetes. The normal blood glucose ranges for anyone, child or not are between 80 and 120. Some doctors will say 70-110, but it's all in the same range. Now, that's the target, but depending on what is eaten for example, a healthy person's blood glucose can rise temporarily up close to 200. As long as the values return to normal after a couple hours, all is well.
Avatar n tn Hi. May I ask what the hypoglycemia test is?. Is it a glucose test? Is it best to have a glucose test after fasting?
Avatar n tn I seem to find all different normal ranges for children. Anything ranging from 70-200. Everybody seems to have a different idea. I have a son (9yrs old) who is a type 1 diabetic and I am very concerned my daughter has it to. She has been showing signs ie. frequent urination, thirsty all the time, loss of appetite and at times increase. I checked her glucose levels with my sons meter and it read 124, just confused if its in normal range!!

Avatar n tn Actually, articles I have read listing so-called "normal" ranges of glucose values after a meal tend to say that a reading above the mid 140's is considered possibly diabetic. However, the ranges do differ from person to person. Most people's glucose can go as high as in the mid 140's after a meal before their own bodies start producing extra insulin to bring those levels down. The range of 70-126 is considered normal before eating a meal, or as a fasting glucose level.
Avatar f tn She also drinks alot as well as pees a lot. Is it normal for blood glucose to react this way in a non diabetic child or should have her checked by her doctor?
Avatar f tn After we eat, excess glucose is stored in the liver as glycogen to maintain normal glucose levels in our body. In GSD I, the enzyme needed to release glucose from glycogen is missing. When this occurs, a person cannot maintain his or her blood glucose levels and will develop hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) within a few hours after eating. The low levels of glucose in the blood of these individuals often result in chronic hunger, fatigue, and irritability.

As the glucose reaches hypoglycemic levels, the insulin is undetectable, counterregulatory hormones, fatty acids, and ketones are high, and glucagon injection elicits no rise of glucose. [edit] Treatment Once ketotic hypoglycemia is suspected and other conditions excluded, appropriate treatment reduces the frequency and duration of episodes.
Avatar f tn I'm doing the 3 hr glucose test! I already drank the glucose dronk, is it normal to get nauseated, sleepy PR is it a bad sign???
Avatar f tn He had eggs with cheese, a large bowl of frosted flakes and 2 1/2 cinnamon rolls all within 2 hours. an hour later his blood glucose was 98mg. I checked him before bed 2 hours after eating dinner and he was at 127mg. I just checked him again four hours later and he was at 102. Can anyone please help me with any information?????
Avatar f tn Everyone agrees that normal 8-10 hr fasting (prandial) glucose ranges are 70-99 mg/dl. Then we have 2-4 hours after meal (postprandial) which is 140-145 mg/dl. This is what you father should aiming for. BUT, and I say but because with your pregnancy it has a different outcome. An Endocrinologist (diabetes specialist) should be seen to get an expert opinion.
1276121 tn?1420860600 Well as some of you know i had my first appointment 7/27 and by ultrasound i measured 5w2d. Today my lab work came back and my hcg was 28,059, is that normal? Also did a glucose and they wanted that to be between 90-130 and mine came back at 131 so they want me to do the 3 hour. I hope all goes well tuesday when i do the 3 hour.
Avatar n tn htm The honeymoon is the period of time shortly after the diagnosis of Type 1 diabetes during which there is some restoration of insulin production and the blood sugar levels improve to normal, or near-normal, levels. The theory goes that when external insulin is first given, the pancreas becomes less stressed, and can actually begin producing insulin on it's own.

Avatar n tn I am so confused about this diabetes issue. I've been diagnosed 2 weeks ago; instructed to change diet and exercise; return to dr. in 3 months for BG test. She's hoping the diet/exercise will take levels down to normal. I don't understand why I'm not monitoring my sugar levels on daily basis? Also, to eat 3 meals a day 30-35 c arbs per meal; 2 snacks day; 15 grams or less of fat (chol. levels are high); I feel overwhelmed and confused with all these changes.
Avatar n tn between 70-126 is the number range that many doctors use. But this is for fasting glucose levels only. After meals, it is normal for glucose levels to rise above this, and the numbers quoted as 'normal' vary, depending on which doctor you talk to. I have read that a number of about 140-150 is considered healthy for after-meal sugar levels.
Avatar n tn Managed Hashimotos well for 10 years. Always had low but within range A1Cs and glucose for as long as I can recall. Situation: Last week for several days I had been having severe nonstop heart palpitations after eating (mostly carbohydrates). Finally it got so bad I could feel my heart struggling to pump so I went to the ER, and they referred me to a cardiologist. Cardiologist ran an echo in his office. Nothing was found but PVCs.
