163305 tn?1333668571 Newswise — Chemists at the University of California, San Diego have produced the first high resolution structure of a molecule that when attached to the genetic material of the hepatitis C virus prevents it from reproducing. Hepatitis C is a chronic infectious disease that affects some 170 million people worldwide and causes chronic liver disease and liver cancer. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, hepatitis C now kills more Americans each year than HIV.
Avatar m tn I think there is some confusion about iodine in Levo. Levothyroxine doesn't contain "added" iodine. The T4 in Levo is a molecule of tyrosine (an amino acid - the T) with 4 iodine atoms attached (the 4). When already taking the 200 mcg of Levo, I can't see why you need the iodine supplement. What symptoms do you have? What are your thyroid related test results and reference ranges shown on the lab report?
Avatar m tn Ions are formed when an electron is detached from a neutral molecule (or atom). The molecule losing an electron becomes a postive ion and the molecule gaining an electron becomes a negative ion. Dont forget this fact, you are just a bunch of molecules...and atoms...thats it.
Avatar n tn When taking catscan or mri (s) My parents both had a bad reaction to iodine and they ate shell fish for so many years. ????????????What, is the dye made of.. . maybe it was old dye or dirty dye?
Avatar f tn Matter is made up of atoms. Atoms make compounds. Atoms or compounds don’t radiate as they travel so don’t have electromagnetic waves as you stated. Most elements and compounds don’t interact with glass so doesn’t go through it, but if they do, for instance HF acid, it will pour through the glass destroying it. It can’t go through and leave it untouched. HF acid is very very strong so it’s obvious when it comes to contact with anything…. It will eat it away.
Avatar m tn Its ability to combine with other substances and other atoms is very, very high. This fulvic acid as the key molecule here, is one of the most powerful electron donors available. It improves the permeability of cell membranes and improves the permeability of the digestive tract, renal membranes, and capillaries.
Avatar n tn T3 (triiodothyronine), the active hormone, is converted from T4 (thyroxine), the storage hormone, mainly by the liver. The 3 and 4 represent the number of iodine atoms per tyrosine molecule. Not everyone converts T4 to T3, that can be a problem that T4 meds alone will not 'fix'. When you see tests that are just called T3 or T4 that is referring to the total amount of hormone.
Avatar m tn Thank you so much for your input. I guess it is the same finding about Vit C molecule and Glucose molecule and how they both look the same and why cancer cells "think" it's the right fuel for them where in fact it's Vitamin C molecule absorb. I have a little text in my journal about Vit C and Glucose. Take a look if you like. Take care, Hugs, Sunes.
Avatar n tn Our bodies contain billions of Hydrogen atoms which rotate on a normal axis. When the magnetic field hits them, the axis changes. Then the magnetic field stops and the atoms can return back to their normal axis. They now admit a radio signal and this is what's detected to make up the images. Higher density tissue takes longer for the hydrogen atoms to realign, so the images of the body are gradually built up, showing all different tissue types.
Avatar n tn Peginterferon (pegylated interferon) is interferon that has been combined with a polyethylene glycol molecule to extend the action of interferon in the body. Standard interferon used for HCV therapy used to require injections 3 x week, versus the weekly injections now. There are a couple of different types now available; Pegasys and Peg-Intron; both are prescribed with the oral drug ribavirin.
Avatar n tn Lactose Polyethylene Glycol Listing just lactose (One Molecule of lactose consists of one molecule each of two other carbohydrates, i.e. galactose and glucose) and Polyethylene Glycol. I will give you this information and let you draw your own conclusions as the safety of the product. The dosage for production must usually be within 5% of the labeled dosage to be considered (for example) a 2mg dose.
972862 tn?1249258238 It differs from other sweeteners such as sorbitol, fructose and glucose because the xylitol molecule has five, instead of six, carbon atoms. Most bacterias in mouth are unable to make use of such sugars. This is one reason why xylitol helps prevent caries. Xylitol is much sweeter than sorbitol, for instance. Assessed in terms of calories, its sweetening power is the same as that of sucrose. It is also similar to sucrose in its technical and nutritive properties.
Avatar f tn I went to the emergencyroom back in march. They did blood tests and my glucose was 104 which they considered high(normal being up to 99) They never said anything to me about this and as far as I know, I have never had this before. I had to go to the emergency room again last month and again, they did blood work. My glucose level was only 88. I am just wondering if I should be looking into this. Could I be diabetic? They never said anything about the high level.
315737 tn?1407298997 These changes are also thought to be markers for aging. The scientists say that it is the fructose molecule in the sucrose, not the glucose, that plays the larger part.20 Because it is metabolized by the liver, fructose does not cause the pancreas to release insulin the way it normally does. Fructose converts to fat more than any other sugar. This may be one of the reasons Americans continue to get fatter. Fructose raises serum triglycerides significantly.
541657 tn?1239208930 Both derive energy from glucose, but the normal cell requires oxygen to combine with the glucose, while cancer cells break down glucose without oxygen, yielding only 1/15 the energy per glucose molecule that a normal cell produces. This is why cancer cells have such a huge appetite for sugar, and also why people who consume excessive quantities of sugar tend to get cancer more often.
Avatar f tn Yes, as I understand it, glycated hemoglobin is the attachment of glucose to hemoglobin, a globular protein molecule. It is a measure of blood sugar levels over about three months time and is elevated when blood sugar has been elevated. I'm looking for information on what levels of blood sugar typically result in glycation. I have not seen my blood sugar go over 127, and I'm wondering what level I should be keeping it under in order to lower my Hgba1c.
483733 tn?1326798446 So where does D-Ribose come in? A D-Ribose molecule is the backbone of every ATP molecule! But the body isn’t very good at producing D-Ribose. Worse still, many people with FM and CFS have a large percentage of damaged mitochondria, which means there are fewer places where the Krebs Cycle can happen. Taking D-Ribose is like pouring gas in your car. It refuels the Krebs Cycle so your mitochondria can make energy more efficiently!
Avatar n tn (2 hydrogen and one oxygen molecule equals H2O or water) The magnetic field produced by the magnet, excites the hydrogen atoms in our bodies to the point where they "reflect" this magnetism, which creates the Mri image. The medical literature says it does not know the affect that this magnetic field has on the body. An electromagnetic field is/has been associated with Leukemia, but this is disputed in various studies.
Avatar m tn The brain is just a collection of molecules and atoms just like any other object in the universe, living or not. The only thing that makes it special is how those atoms are arranged. Alright enough rambling. I have learned that there is probably no oasis after death, no afterlife. While I cannot be 100% sure that there is no afterlife, for i'm not dead, I can infer that there is not. No one has lived to tell the tale of death.
Avatar m tn LOL LOL Very cute But you are OUT!! Ok I'll give you another chance to play I am Tired, Went into Manhattan, to the Museum of Natural History and the Hayden Planetarium Haven't been their in 15 years Vinpocetine facilitates cerebral metabolism by improving cerebral microcirculation (i.e., blood flow to, and throughout, the brain).
929504 tn?1332585934 Reverse T3 is the mirror image of the normal T3 hormone molecule. The body can only use the normal Free T3 molecule. As I understand it, the Reverse mirror image RT3 molecule will fit into the receptor. But it won't have any effect. So in extreme case for example if all your body's receptors or too many (whatever that is?) are filled and plugged with the RT3 instead of the active T3, then there is no place for the true free T3 molecule to go and your body is starving.
Avatar n tn Synthroid is a stereo synthetic molecule that mimics the real thyroid molecule. Because it is similar in the type of bonds but not the true thyroid molecule (like Armour) the body is initially fooled into believing (metabolically) that it is getting a new, adequate dose of what it needs. The body, however, doesn't accommodate the stereo mimicry (being "fooled" by a look-alike molecule) very long and responds with symptoms similar to chemical poisoning (e.g.
