Avatar f tn "should i be worried or not." Sounds as if you already are or you wouldn't be posting. In your first thread I mentioned that the FDA set manufacturing guidelines for home glucose meters at ± [plus/minus] 20%. This means your 70 mg/dl reading could be 70 mg/dl or it could be as low as 56 mg/dl or as high as 84 mg/dl. Home meters give an approximation not a true reading of glucose levels.
503651 tn?1223174601 Inconsistent meter readings can and will happen. Here are some things you need to be aware of about home test meters; 1. Home meters run off of a photo cell battery. The battery may have drained below its normal usage mark resulting in inaccurate readings. Change the battery if your meter allows it. 2. Meters should be calibrated every three months. 3. Lets not forget that mechanical/electronic things fail out of the blue. This might be the case with your meter. 4.
Avatar m tn My doctor uses a diffrent number than the one I get on my meter, what is that number as opposed to the one on the meter? And what is a good number for me to be at using his numbers after my blood tests? I am a 53 year old male, and my doctor said my number was 9.8, where shoul I be?
Avatar f tn s interesting that you question the accuracy of your glucose meter for I was reading the September 2008 issues of Consumer Reports that rated both blood-pressure monitors and blood-glucose meters. Only one blood-glucose meter scored excellent overall and also scored the highest for consistency- the Johnson & Johnson Lifescan OneTouch Ultra Mini. The Ultra Mini was followed by Ascensia Contour, ReliOn Ultima (WalMart), and Accu-check Compact Plus.

Avatar f tn Here's my 2 cents; For short periods fad diets work for a few people and fail with everyone else. The Glycemic Index [GI] has shown to be the guide for proper eating. Considering your food allergies you will have pick through the GI to find your right choices, and something I don't believe a nutritionist nor a dietitian can do better than yourself. http://www.glycemicindex.com/ . "My blood glucose at that time was 102mg/dl. Is that high enough for a diagnosis of diabetes?
Avatar n tn Dear Tony, I asked a couple of other volunteers about LifeTrac and none had heard of a beta test for a non envasive glucose meter. I also checked the web and other sites and could find nothing. It's possible I have missed something, but as we all know and as you said, we have to be a little cautious when it comes to somethings on the internet. You did'nt say where you saw this, but personally, unless I know it is a reliable source, I try to verify like you did.
Avatar n tn I bought a store brand glucose meter and tested on several occasions, to which my highest reading was 210 after meals, and 59 fasting. My maternal grandmother is the only known person in our family to have diabetes (type II). I carry glucose tablets if I feel low, and have eliminated all sugars except for some carbohydrates, in fear of losing weight. My question is, if my condition makes a switch to type II, what can I do to make it better?
Avatar f tn If you are unsure of the accuracy of your meter, you should have asked the pharmacist and you doctor on a brand they recommend prior to purchase. Your 155 fasting reading is high. Ask your doctor for an HgbA1c test as well. You can read about it here - http://tinyurl.com/2gjspf To start controlling your diabetes start reading other posts. It has been discussed here many times over. A good Web site is the American Diabetes Association http://www.diabetes.org/home.
Avatar m tn Blood sugar peaks 2-4 hours postprandial, not 6 hours. Go to the web site Wave posted in his thread so you don't mistake what is correct. Cheap meters may not produce accurate results every time. If you value your health invest in a good quality meter. Consumer Reports listed Johnson & Johnson LifeScan Ultra meters as the most reliable. Search around, J&J offered free meters last year.
Avatar n tn Hi, first, welcome to this forum. I'm glad you posted. Its time you saw another doctor. For a doctor to discourage glucose testing unless the patient is on insulin is horribly wrong. He/she sounds like a quack. It is important to monitor your blood sugar (glucose) on a regular basis to understand how well you are controlling your diabetes. Your above 300 mg/dl readings are high and getting real close to a dangerous level where diabetes complications start to set in.
Avatar f tn A study was just done stating the Johnson & Johnson products contains formaldihide and many cancer causing agents!! Johnson & Johnson actually admitted that their products had cancer causing agents in them... I exchanged all the shampoo and body wash and lotion and diaper rash cream for something else organic..
Avatar n tn If you're concerned about your glucose level you can purchase a home test meter. Top rated is Johnson & Johnson's Ultra Mini. And, yes, instructions are included on how to use the meter. Click on the link below then click on Buy to find a store. Approx cost is $20.00 US. http://tinyurl.

1530342 tn?1405016490 But that deal fell apart after Johnson and prosecutors disagreed over the terms. Johnson instead decided to maintain his not guilty plea and the case is set to go to trial. On Saturday, the Tribune reported that Johnson provided the newspaper with emails, financial statements, photos and a transcript of a recorded meeting with John Swallow, then the state's chief deputy attorney general. Only one email from Johnson was available on the newspaper's website.
Avatar m tn Johnson and Johnson( the biggest and largest Pharma dog on the block is looking to expand it's interest with Vertex and as well as Tibotec (TMC435) to accelerate their "respective "all oral' experiments. This also is good news. If BMS & Gilead choose not to play nice together,,there will alway be someone to take their place and force them to "not be left out".

Avatar f tn By Parija Kavilanz, senior writerMay 14, 2010: 8:28 PM ET NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- The quality and safety violations that led to the shutdown of a Tylenol plant were extremely serious, and could lead to tough action by regulators on drugmaker Johnson & Johnson.
